If you have a log burner, especially in an older period property like my 1890s terrace, you quickly learn that "Kiln Dried" doesn't always mean "Ready to Burn." I bought this moisture meter to take the guesswork out of my winter fuel prep, and the results were eye-opening. ​The "Real World" Test: The most important thing I’ve found (and shown in my photos) is that testing the outside of a log is useless. I tested a batch of kiln-dried ash that looked perfect on the outside (reading 12-14%). However, as soon as I split the log and tested the fresh internal face, the reading jumped to 23-25%. Burning that would have gummed up my flue and wasted energy. ​Why this specific meter works: ​Speed & Clarity: The display is bright and the reading is near-instant. ​The Pin Depth: The pins are sturdy enough to get a good bite into hardwood without feeling like they’ll snap. ​Versatility: I’ve also been using it to check for damp patches around my skirting boards before I start my upcoming bedroom decorating and MDF alcove shelving project. It’s a great peace-of-mind tool for old house maintenance. ​Verdict: If you’re a new stove owner, don’t guess. Get a meter, split your logs, and test the center. This tool is inexpensive, accurate enough for home use, and could save you a very expensive chimney sweep bill. Highly recommended.

Ease of use: Bought it for wood only which is excellent but the other functions are handy 👍

Decent moisture meter for fire logs. Spikes help give good readings and it's supplied with a spare set. Tested it on wood I knew the approximate moisture content of, hardwood and soft. It was pretty accurate and confirmed the firewood sellers specifications. Happy with my purchase. Easy to understand/use and accuracy is good.

delivered on time next day.. looks the business well packed and instructions complete within meter can measure building materials and wood which I wanted it for .. small batteries supplied but I decided to use my own which is not necessary may I add.. spare measuring prongs ..great value ...nice ....what is there not to like

Works fine and easy to read instructions

There are several settings for different types of wood and it would be nice to have a better idea which one I should use for skirting boards. I also used the wall setting for the inside of a plastered outside-facing wall where damp has been traveling in the cavity space. While the actual percentages mean very little, the main help is the difference it lets you see between dry, damp and very damp areas, so you can track the likely source of the leak. Having done from remedial work to try and fix the problem I'm not using the dampmeter to track the relative improvement in the damp readings over weeks, proving the wall is slowly drying out. If you are very houseproud and perhaps have a mother-in-law with a magnifying glass going round inspecting you, be warned the little pins leave tiny holes you can see from a foot away but no further

Very good piece of kit. Easy to use. Just get a chart online for what the readings mean but basically green is good and red is not. Very pleased.

Why spend a ton as a homeowner when you may only use a tool a few times. This fit the bill perfectly. Very economical and worked like a charm. Very easy to use, the LED screen was very easy to read.
