I recently purchased the cut-outs. They work like a charm. Dough doesn't stick to the cut-out and clean-up is a breeze - just flick off the excess flour with a clean, dry pastry brush.For example, I used them with a savoury dough on cornish pasty style meat pies for decoration and identification - maple leaf for beef, heart for chicken. Stick the cut-out on over egg washed dough and brush the cut-out with a bit more wash. They stayed on and browned up nicely. Sweet!I also made a ton of extra hearts and maple leafs with the dough scraps. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and lay the cut-outs flat. Freeze for a few hours (until completely hard) then transfer to an air-tight container for deep-freeze storage. To use: pull them out frozen and "glue" with egg wash. Voilà!

I ordered a set of these recently, after I saw pictures of a "cake" that was made by cutting out a big cake-shaped cylinder of watermelon and then using cookie cutters to cut "leaves" out of melon that you attach to the "cake" with toothpicks. I found that if I cut cantaloupe, peaches, or apples into flat, even surfaces about 1/8 inch thick, then I could use these cookie cutters to cut out shapes. These fruit shapes are absolutely adorable!! I've used them on a "watermelon cake" and for sending to school with my kids. The funniest one was when I made an apple cutout that was made of apple.Cleanup was easy -- I ran them through the dishwasher, in the top rack, in a small closed plastic basket that is meant for washing baby items.I haven't yet tried using these cookie cutters on dough, but they look to me like they would work well with dough, too.Overall, I am delighted with these cookie cutters and expect to use them many times in the future.
