Digital Harinezumi 4.0 (digital hedgehog 4.0) [black]

Gotta say, the other reviews were right. I experienced the camera blacking out for a period of time, and its doing this new thing of only recording 15 seconds of video before going black, which has stopped. There is a small compartment next to the usb slot the can be triggered with a pen and the camera resets without losing anything you've already shot. I am giving this camera 5 stars because it is my favorite thing that I have ever owned. The settings are amazing and the look that you get is so interesting. The ease of using this camera, because of its size and look, has made filming everything A. Look compelling B. Take so much less time to accomplish. If you're an amateur film maker who doesn't have a crew or lightning budget, or just want your home movies to look and sound better (the sound is actually pretty great), Don't waste your time or money on an HD camcorder. This will change your game. P.S. If you shoot in vivid 1 on the 8 frame setting and speed it up in post, it looks like home videos from the 60's.

There is often talk of this camera freezing and refusing to turn on and there is one such review on here. I also experianced this in the first day of ownership, but it is easily fixed and it seems most likely caused by owners button mashing. A quick email to the extremely fast and helpful photo warehouse and the problem was resolved and I know what to do if it happens again. There is a tiny pin size reset button next to the usb and sd card inputs, push it and all will be well. As for the product, this reminds me of a instant video instagram, saying it mimics super 8 seems a bit off but it certainly gives the sense of lo fi Hi-8 or even VHS. If you like that aesthetic and want to take quick, interesting and inconspicuous photos then this camera will be worth a look. I bought it after seeing films Springbreakers and To the wonder used it and I very much plan to use it in production as well. As with any camera though, I think to get the most out of it a bit of knowledge about photography could be useful.

I was really excited to get this camera and I enjoyed the week that I had with it before it broke. It feels like a cheap plastic toy because that's what it is. The price of this camera is way too high. It should cost forty bucks at the most. I like the idea behind it and while it worked it was everything I wanted. Very simple, small, lightweight, and the images were always dreamlike and trippy. You could do a lot of creative stuff with this for sure but it's insane to pay so much for such a cheap camera. If it was more reliable I would give it four stars but since it broke for no apparent reason I am going to give zero stars. Don't waste your time.

I was looking forward to buying a Digital Harinezumi for years now. I ordered the 4 this past Black Friday, and received it earlier this week. Within the first few hours of me owning the camera, the monitor filled with noise that I couldn't get rid of. The next day, I tried to turn it on again, and the monitor would turn on without showing anything on the screen. Even after recharging the battery, the camera just refuses to turn on. For the few hours that I was able to use it, I was very satisfied with the lo-fi visuals that this little camera was capable of doing.

I absolutely love this camera. The quality of the images are fantastic. The black and white photos almost seem to have film grain. It does what I wanted, and for me, is an excellent alternative to the lomo folm cameras out there. Fits in almost any pocket, making it more likely to be used. I dig that they followed the design of the old 110 compact film cameras. Rechargeable battery is a must for this type of device. I do wish the cable connection was standard usb.

Great filters and effects, multi exposure makes it even more interesting and artsy. Super 8 movie effect is awesome. But the controls can get a little tricky sometimes and the battery doesnt last that long. You need to bring a powerbank with you if you plan to use this all day long. Still love this camera though.. I also own a harinezumi 2+++ and a harinezumi 3 and they are both fun and enjoyable to use. I think the Harinezumi line is the best there is in digital lomography. The superheadz company should make more models and improvements for this camera line.

First of all, it doesn't mimic the vintage 8mm of film. If you actually lived during the daysof super 8 (1979 for me ) you would know that any digital camera is going to product digital noise and not actual film grain. This camera has tons of noise in the shadows and it's all different funky digital colors. The highlights get easily washed out (since it's digital) so the only time you should shoot with this camera is really cloudy days. I am sending my camera back. It's plastic junk and is only worth about $20 (if that)…it feels like you got it out of one of those novelty coin machines at truck stops back in the 70's and 80's….right next to the smoking monkey novelty. The controls are haphazardly placed and takes time to understand how they work. Why would somebody pay almost $200 for something cheap like this and horrible quality when you can use your iPhone with a super 8 effect app for a fraction of the cost of this camera. These are made in China and should STAY in China where substandard production quality is a normal thing. I don't know how this thing became remotely popular in the U.S. There is a product called NOLAB that is now producing an actual super 8 cassette (like the old film ones) that have a sensor built into them and a small port for an SD card. They are in development now and need the support of the super 8 fans out there to get it going. You'll be able to use an ACTUAL super 8 camera to capture REAL super 8 imagery. I would like to give this product more than a bad rating but it doesn't deserve it. Sorry Chinon, back to the drawing board.

Loved the camera, for the two weeks I used it before the screen cracked somehow in my camera bag. That was pretty disappointing, considering the camera was safe in my bag I really don't think it should've broken so easily. I take really good care of my equipment, and was stoked about this toy camera but I guess that is all it is... Just a toy. Tried to return the product and get refunded for a faulty camera but was told "that never happened to any of our cameras we have here". But, I loved the color setting for the camera and also the ability to shoot video as well as take photos. It's a shame the screen is cracked because I really enjoyed using it while it lasted.
