Q: What is the best method for cutting tungsten rods?

Use a diamond-impregnated cutting wheel, available at Home Despot for a variety of cutter/grinder tools (Dremel or 4.5" wheels). USE eye protection and a mask! Tungsten dust is moderately toxic, AND will cause serious corneal damage if shot into your eyes!

Q: How is the package like? I am so worried that the heavy rods will be lost during shipping.

I ordered one 6" rod about 2 years ago. My order was fairly light given the size rod i ordered but Amazon shipped it in a 2" diameter 2' long mailing tube. The end caps were extremely robust and taped shut for extra security. As I recall, I had to get pliers to open the thing. My opinion is that the package was much more than sufficient.

I cannot answer your question. My interest in tungsten had to do with its high melt temperature. Which, sure enough, is really, really high. Like, damn. If there is anything else I can help you with let me know. oh, btw, tungsten is really brittle.
