How many bags of dirt does it take to fill?

This raised bed holds 12 cubic feet of dirt. The amount of dirt bags depends on how much dirt is in each bag. I put 6 bags of dirt (2 cubic feet each) and then added another to top the planter off. I also lined the bottom with cardboard before I put the dirt inside so grass and weeds wouldn't grow into my raised bed. The cardboard worked very well.

If two beds are purchased can they be stacked (or overlapped) to create a higher bed?

No, they can be combined to create one long garden bed though.
