Star Trek Next Generation: Complete Series [DVD] [1990] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]

Star Trek TNG was my first encounter with Star Trek franchise ever. As person born in early 80's I had little knowledge of Original Series. When Next Generation started bold journey where no one has gone before I was overwhelmed. Worf was my love from first sight, La Forge's visor was extremely cool gadget and Data was adorable. Interesting adventures opened my imagination. Phasers, warp speed, Enterprise itself, amazing stuff. Remember playing Star Trek with other kids impersonating different characters. TNG is definitely most sophisticated series in the franchise with outstanding performance from Patrick Stewart. Although TOS is my favourite series (highest fun factor), TNG is in my opinion the best one (overall quality)."Full Journey" boxset contains repackaged releases from previous years. Picture quality, extras, everything remains the same. At first I was bit disappointed with picture quality (especially season 1 & 2 looks quite poor), but fortunately it's getting better with every subsequent season, though never becomes perfect. Series is bit old but i think it's more fault of the way it was filmed rather than age. Colours seems bit muted and picture looks bit "foggy" but other than that picture is sharp and from around season 4 getting really nice. Extras are very interesting giving insight into making of one of the best TV shows ever. I'm just disappointed with additional DVD included in this box. Apart from 3 short and not most interesting features rest of them is repeated from previous extras.Many people complains about "Full Journey" boxsets.I just love them. Bought all Star Trek series as "Full Journey" and got rid of my old slimline editions. Space saving, lovely designed, all boxes looks just beautiful. Sturdy box (about 7 standard DVD cases thick) dominated by black and red colours with New Enterprise at the front and Star Trek logo. Each series packaged in beautifully designed cardboard sleeves containing usually 7 DVDs in slots. People say that it's easy to scratch and cheap. My DVDs are working well, there's no significant scratches, just handle them carefully and everything should be alright. I had no problems at all. Prefer "Full Journey" than old bulky boxsets. Now my Star Trek collection looks decent and tidy. Feel very happy for saving lots of space on my shelf. Best looking edition!

Good to have if you love star trek well worth the money

I hadn't watched these (Star Trek: The Next Generation - The Full Journey [DVD]) since they were first broadcast on national TV.Now, every trekkie fan has their own personal favourite series and, until now, mine has always been 'Enterprise' (other than the thorough enjoyment of the original Star Trek). However, now I'm not so sure. Originally, I didn't like the 'Q' element but, watching it all again (and not having to wait a week for the next episode), my mind is gradually being changed.Everyone seems to accept that the Star Trek franchise changed the way we looked at TV sci-fi. The storylines were always quite engrossing and, although sometimes a little too "American flagwaving" for the UK market, were always well developed and well acted. And it's on the latter where the viewer gets drawn in to the stories.I still don't know whether ST-TNG is to be my all time favourite, all I do know is that I am loving watching the episodes all over again.Well deserving my 5 star rating and thoroughly recommended. (now to start saving for my next Star Trek boxed set - perhaps get the original series???----------------------I note that there have been some reviewers complaining about faulty sets. This almost put me off buying but I did anyway and, lo and behold, I got one of the 'dodgy' batches. However, though the 'My Account' section at the top of the Amazon page, I notified Amazon and 36 hours later I had my replacement which works perfectly. So, although I understand that defective goods can be a nuisance, to only give a 2 or 3 star rating when the replacement service is as good as Amazon's is, to my mind, unreasonable (and I speak from many years experience with Amazon UK!)

I have just finished watching the complete set all the disks worked fine unlike some other reviewers have had the misfortune of getting a bad batch possibly. The quality was just as expected from when the show was filmed and from DVD's as it is not in any means an HD quality picture, and it is not in wide screen like most modern shows these days as it was first shot in 1987. Their is loads of extras at the end of each series with interviews with some of the production team and the cast with some really cool incites into what went into the making of TNG.The only thing that lets it down is the way the disks are stored they are in cardboard sleeves in a box which is not very good for the DVD's long term, but it dose reduce the mount of space the set takes up; also it is very cheep at the end of the day you are getting hours of TV for very little money!

I have always been a big Trek fan starting with the original series and over the years have probably seen every epiosode in every incarnation of Star Trek. But now I realise again what a pleasure it is to see the episodes in the correct order. And this is still my favorite.Objectively season 1 is a bit clumsy but it really gets going by season 2 and by season 3 you actually believe that these people have been together for a long time. The best thing is that the episodes are varied in their themes and intensity varying from gentle sometimes sad tales to action and crises. My favorites are the political manouvering and battles. It is also in places clever (although obvious in the moral question it is tryng to address) by giving the characters more to solve than just a mystery and sometimes you may not even agree with the outcome or their choices.It is a show of its time but I don't find it horribly dated - good story telling is always timeless and the joy of this is that you get to know the characters, watch them develope and change, and get to go on an adventure with an interesting and likeable group of people.And at this price who could refuse?

I am giving this boxed set one star simply because Sir Patrick Stewart deserves it. He is a brilliant actor. I bought this boxed set based purely on the reviews I had read and yes every episode is there, in high resolution, plus the boxed set, as promised, does contain great special features. HOWEVER, from series 3 onwards, every episode on every disk of every series jams on the final scene. If over the years you have seen most of the episodes you will remember how they end, but this was NOT why I paid TWO HUNDRED Australian dollars for this boxed set for my husband for Christmas. I am bitterly disappointed in the quality of the disks and I advise therefore strongly people NOT to purchase this boxed set. For the record the problem is not my DVD player as all my other DVDs play perfectly well - it is only the disks in this boxed set. I would ask for my money back but I know from experience that it is virtually impossible to do so from Amazon without being made to jump and leap through numerous hoops and hurdles, so I am reduced to writing this review instead in the hope that I can prevent others from having to experience the frustration my husband and I are currently experiencing with not knowing whether, at the end of every episode, Sir Patrick Stewart has saved the universe once again.

It arrived well within the timescale specified. Was well packed and received in good order.It was good value for money as it was reduced. (I've been looking for this for some time but waiting for it to be reduced)I have the same format, packaging wise, in the original star trek series so knew what to expect.For those that have not had something like this before, the discs come in cardboard sleeves with 6 or so discs in each fold out sleeve. There are 7 main sleeves, one for each series plus a bonus sleeve/disc. The sleeves are contained in a presentation box.I previously bought some of the series in the large individual DVD type jewel cases but they took up loads of room. The good thing about this product is its compactness. OK you have to be a little gentle taking out and putting the discs back in the cardboard sleeves but once you know that you take that into account.Discs are fine and picture quality is what you expect from a DVDBottom line - just great!!

This item was placed in a flimsy (Amazon Prime) bubble bag and expected to survive an international journey. The product inside arrived beaten and broken. They are Blu Ray disks. They are delicate. Although the disks themselves appear ok, the jewel cases they come in are badly damaged. Very poor consideration given to an expensive item.

An dieser Box gibt es eigentlich nicht viel zu meckern, wenn man weiß, was man zu erwarten hat:Zur Packung/Aufmachung:Die Box ist sehr kompakt (19x13x10cm) und dementsprechend sehr platzsparend. Der eigentliche Karton/Schuber macht einen stabilen Eindruck und schützt sein Inneres ausreichend vor Staub und Dreck. Zudem sieht er im Regal wirklich schick aus. Jede Staffel für sich ist ein einzelner, aufklappbarerer Pappkarton mit Einschubleisten für die DVDs. Sicherlich sind die DVDs hierdurch nicht völlig sicher vor Kratzern, aber der geneigte Sammler dürfte hinreichend vorsichtig damit umgehen, so dass ich hier keine Probleme sehe. (Erfahrungen mit anderen Serienboxen haben gezeigt, dass auch "richtige" DVD-Hüllen nicht zwangsläufig besser für die DVDs sind. Z.B. bei den älteren Star Trek und Stargate-Boxen saßen die DVDs derart stramm in der Hülle, dass man sich ständig mit der Gefahr konfrontiert sah die DVDs zu zerbrechen.) Zusätzlich zu den 7 Staffeln gibt es noch eine Bonus Disc samt Pappschuber. Das dämliche FSK Logo ist zum Glück nur einer Seite sichtbar.Zu den DVDs:Wer an dieser Stelle vor mangelnder Bildqualität warnt hat schlichtweg die falschen Vorstellungen. Bei einer Serie von 1987+ kann man nicht erwarten, dass Effekte, Auflösung und Format auch nur ansatzweise mit aktuellen Standards mithalten können. Insbesondere den Spezialeffekten sieht man ihr Alter an, vor allem in den früheren Staffeln. Für mich ist dies aber genau das, was ich erwartet habe und haben möchte. Eine Serie aus den Achtzigern soll für mich so aussehen wie eine Serie aus den Achtzigern, inclusive der Effekte, d.h. authentisch muss es für mich sein. Mit Sicherheit wird es in absehbarer Zeit eine Bluray-Fassung geben, jedoch steht hier zu erwarten, dass angesichts der mangelnden Auflösung der Spezialeffekte in der Originalfassung, eben diese Effekte komplett neu zu generieren sind, um sie den moderne Gegebenheiten anzupassen. Abgesehen von den enormen Kosten dieser Überarbeitung, was sich in einem entsprechenden Preis widerspiegeln dürfte, stielt dies aber gerade der Serie genannte Authentizität. Geschmackssache eben.Mein einziger Kritikpunkt hier: Den Pappnasen der FSK sei dank musste offenbar auf jede der DVDs ein kleiner grüner FSK-Sticker angebracht werden. Ich bin mir nicht ganz sicher, aber mir scheint, dass dies die DVDs leicht unwuchtig machen könnte. (Oder ist dies ein neuer Standard?)Für den Ton gilt weitestgehend das selbe wie für das Bild. Insbesondere die deutsche Tonspur ist erwartungsgemäß nicht so wahnsinnig gut gealtert und in Staffeln 1-4 nur in Mono. Der Originalton klingt hier deutlich voller (und durchgehend 5.1).Die DVD-Menüs sind sehr ansprechend und stilistisch Enterprise'isch gehalten, ganz wie es sich gehört.Zum Inhalt wurde und ist an anderer Stelle viel geschrieben worden, und ich denke wer ernsthaft erwägt sich eine ganze Serie zu kaufen, weiß bereits worum es geht. Aus diesem Grund hier lediglich ein Satz: Science Fiction à la Star Trek vom ganz ganz Feinsten.Fazit: Wer Bildqualität à la Starge Universe oder Galactica erwartet ist hier falsch und muss (wenn überhaupt) auf die Bluray warten. Wer Star Trek The Next Generation jedoch so sehen will, wie es ursprünglich 1987+ ausgesehen und geklungen hat, der ist hier absolut richtig. Ich gehöre zu zweiterer Gruppe und sage daher: Kaufempfehlung.

This has to be one of my favorite TV shows. I'm so thrilled to finally own the series on DVD, as I haven't been able to watch it for the last ten years. Every time I moved somewhere new, I would eagerly get my cable hooked up, only to be crushed when I found out that TNG was not part of the line-up. (There were times when I was on holiday that I would refuse to leave the hotel room, because I was finally able to catch a TNG episode, and I wasn't leaving until it was over!)I started watching it in 1992 because I had a crush on Wesley Crusher (lame, I know, but hey, I was eleven!) So I was watching it because I thought that he was cute, but after about three episodes, I was completely hooked on the show itself. The storylines are just so awesome, and full of the kind of moral standards that define the human race. Where else can you find another show that upholds so many positive messages, about truth and freedom and honor and the beauty of being human, even with all of its hardships, and . . .the list goes on and on. Yes, there are a couple of "stinkers", (The Naked Now, Masks) but there are few and far between. I guess every series is allowed to fail once or twice.(I recommend skipping over The Naked Now - I can't stand this episode - it's like watching a cheap porno movie! Not that I watch those, mind you!)One of the people who worked on the show remarked that each episode is like half of a feature film, and he's absolutely right. Not many shows can be so moving in 45 minutes, but STNG manages it. I have found myself crying by the end of the show so many times, (if you're familiar with The Inner Light, you'll understand what I mean.) It's just that moving. And of course, sometimes there are points when I've had to pause playback, because I'm laughing so hard (often at a moment where Data makes an unintentionally hilarious comment). And of course the Q episodes are some of the best for comedy. (Watch Deja Q if you want to laugh your head off - as far as I'm concerned, no one can watch Data having his first belly laugh without cracking up.)I bought this set as my bonus for the year, while my husband got a new computer. So the DVDs were technically supposed to be mine, but now my husband won't let me watch them without him there! (Well, he would let me, of course, but he doesn't want to miss an episode.) He had only seen maybe a handful of TNG episodes before I purchased this set. He was more of a Voyager fan, as that was what was on TV at the time that he started to become a Trekkie. But after watching maybe ten TNG episodes, he had to agree that TNG absolutely blows Voyager away. (I did give that show a chance, I watched it for almost three months when it first started, but it just didn't have the heart of TNG.)We bought this set less than two months ago, and already, we're halfway through season six! We have to be watching about 3-4 episodes a night, and as many as eight on the weekends. We just can't stop, they're that good.As you can guess, I was too young to really enjoy the original series. They were before my time. I've seen a few, but they were a bit too cheesy for me. Plus, after Captain Picard, I couldn't like the cowboy style of Kirk. TNG is what I grew up with.Now I'm looking forward to owning Deep Space Nine. (I don't like it as much as TNG, but it's still good.) Voyager and Enterprise, I might what the occasional show if it happens to be on TV, but TNG can be watched over and over. I'll never tire of it.I would recommend getting a companion guide to go with the set. I have TV Guide's "Farewell to Star Trek: The Next Generation". Not too easy to get your hands on, but very good. It includes a synopsis of every single episode, including the names of the guest stars and a few trivia tidbits. The book also has interviews of every regular cast member, even a few that weren't in that many episodes, like Q and Ensign Ro. It may be a little difficult to get your hands on a copy (try Ebay, as Amazon doesn't have it), but it's well worth it.Also, it's been said over and over, but beware of the Asian releases! It's cheaper, but the picture and sound quality sucks, and many of the episodes are cut off at the end. It may not be enough missing to leave you hanging, but who wants that? While the Amazon price might seem steep, it works out to less than $3.50 US an episode, while getting the bonus stuff for free. (I'm from Canada, but even with the exchange rate, it worked out to less than $4.50 Canadian for an episode, with the bonus stuff for free.) When you look at it that way, it doesn't seem so bad. It was an "ouch" to part with the money, but at least this way, I'll own the whole show forever, and now I can watch any episode anytime. Also, buy the whole set at once, rather than individual seasons, you'll save yourself $150-$200. And you'll get a nice little sleeve to store them all in.The surround sound on this set is just awesome. If you have surround sound, you will love watching it like this.There's only a couple of things that I would change about this set if I could. I would have liked to have seen some bloopers as part of the extras. DVD commentary would also have been appreciated. And I would have changed the packaging to an accordian style (like a book) foldout. The way it is now, you have to unfold the holder across your coffee table so that you can get the last disc out. It's rather annoying. And sometimes, the disc holder doesn't want to come out of the box. Also, the DVD chapters aren't set up so that you can just click past the credits (I did that once, then wondered why I'd missed part of the episode). But other than that, everything else is great. I have every single episode, to watch anytime that I want.
