Yes, you can fit it upside down. I did! In my photo you will see the “gap” or “inset” is at the top in my photo. Make sure you fit it at the BOTTOM. The door catch is designed to work best with this gap at the bottom. Fit it the other way around and the catch can vibrate into the unlocked position. I have rectified this on mine, but learn from my mistake.Other than that, the box is exactly as others say. Easy to fit, looks lovely afterwards.One other thing. If, like me, you have an inset steel electric box with a full length piano hinge on the door, you will need to drill out the rivets that fix the door to the case to remove the old door. When they start to spin, they can be remove by chiselling the last bit off. (Old flat head screwdriver & a hammer).Secondly, you will need to screw two 15mm / 3/4” battens or furring strips on each side of the old box to give you the additional depth you need as those steel boxes are deeper than 66mm. Screw the cover to the strips and seal around with white silicon.

Great product, easy to install. Not cheap but as they say buy cheap buy twice ;)

Fits well over old meter boxes when the door has broken.Bit fiddly when fitting to the wall with the screws as there's not much room to hold screw in place straight, but we managed it with s few choice words!Don't let that put you off thou.Its smart and does the job.

Really nice cover and one I’d been looking at for some while. My electric meter is smack right in the middle of my property at the back and overlooking my garden rather than off to the side so this cover unfortunately made the space really stick out as it’s obviously bigger to sit on top of the old one. I made the decision to return it but I wouldn’t let that put you off. It’s seems really durable looks very straightforward to install too. In my opinion it’s a little more expensive than I would have liked but if it had looked right in the position it was going I would have kept it irrelevant of the cost.

This is so easy to fit and looks so great. Makes the front of the house loom so fresh. Very well made and like the fact it comes with a metal key rather than the usual plastic

I do not understand why it was acceptable for my garage to have an electric supply with no cover, but that's what I faced when I moved to my house recently. I needed a 60cm tall, 40cm wide and 10cm deep cover with door, and this cover seemed to be just about perfect. I did end up fixing an extra 2cm thick wood perimeter for this cover to attach to, giving me a 12cm depth total. The entire installation took about an hour including the extra wood, so it was quick and easy. I am very happy with the outcome, and no longer worry that my kids will do something dangerous with the exposed supply. Recommended for this type of application. I suspect it also works perfectly for the intended application of covering a damaged supply box.

excellent product, works well. good value, if you have an older house, say 1980 s you cannot just fit a replacement door from say jewsons as the sizes are different to modern boxes, lock is in slightly different place, i learnt this at my expense, so these new meter box covers are the only real answer. to fit these you take the old door off, this new meter box then fits over the top of the old one, you will need a long 5-6 inch drill bit, 4-5mm wide, to be able to mark the wall for the screw holes, these boxes are a far better meter box than your old one, and you dont have to disturb the electrics/ gas thats inside the box as it only goes over the top. i HIGHLY recomend these boxes, they are a brilliant idea.

My electricity meter box door blew off in high winds and could not be easily replaced as the hinge fittings on the box itself were damaged. This meter box cover has proved a great solution to avoiding removing the old box which would need the meter removed too. I had mine fitted professionally by my local joiner and he did the job in five minutes, but I'm sure many people with a decent power drill could fit their own. The cover has been on throughout this winter and has had no problem coping with all weathers and doing its job well. Recommended, as long as you check your measurements before ordering. Mine is a good fit over my standard wall box.
