Firmware Update broke my Sledge
I owned a Sledge for a couple of years and overall I was quite happy with the machine. However, a firmware update caused certain functions to stop working. I contacted the company, who were extremely unhelpful, suggesting I send it to be repaired at my cost. The cost of repair would have been prohibitive so I am now left with a large piece of orange plastic. For this price there are many, much more reliable, synths on the market.

Bought one recently to replace my Novation Mininova. It's a really professional piece of gear, but has major drawbacks. Firstly, there is not 999 presets sounds on it. There are only 108. The rest are empty and are for saved sounds you create. Unless you're confident and have knowledge of oscilators and the rest, it's very difficult and time consuming trying to create a certain sound to save. Initially, I found it a very frustrating instrument to use. Everything was so much simpler on the Mininova or Ultranova. However, I've since reviewed my opinion on the synth. All sounds can be adapted and altered on the system and the actual controls are simple to use. It was just a case of me getting used to old-style synthesizers... Really enjoying it now and, as a guitarist, if I can get some fantastic sounds from it, just imagine what a keyboard player can do with this system. No wonder the top keyboard players like Wakeman, Airey, etc. play them. Waldorf designed system within the keyboard is one of the best apparently. Certainly, over the past six weeks or so, I've changed my opinion on the Sledge and I'm finding it more and more interesting to play. You can also use it as a midi controller and download samples too... Old style but fantastic.

Great responsive keyboard with ability to make both standard analogue and sampled sounds, easy to play and program (very fun) ... THEN it goes off on its own, doesn’t receive knob changes (programs freeze while editing). Totally useless in any MIDI chain. Truly. Useless. OS is beyond “buggy”. It’s a joke. 4 years, 3 color variations, and they still have a useless product. Using it on stage would be suicidal. At least every 15 minutes it freezes up, gets notes stuck, then needs a *HARD REBOOT* to get it to function at all again. Don’t buy this. I loved it then was so extremely disappointed when I realized the problem wasn’t me, it was it; and all Studiologic says is “new OS bug-free!”, which is a complete lie. No part of this works. None.

Edit. Synth worked for 7 days, then a “Rare USB issue” caused it to cease to be! While it did work ....This synth is amazing! Love it. Great sounds, great edit ability, simple to understand and easy to use. Keyboard is playable and the extra software very useful. Some awesome PPG sounds from the mid 80’s including some reminiscent of Numan’s berserker period. Really enjoyed playing with this! The case is a little different and you can tell it’s a budget exterior, but the interior and sounds are solid gold!
