Toshiba DT01ACA050 500GB 3.5 inch SATA 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

This was purchased for my son as a Christmas present last year and the first drive was delivered by Yodel!!! who only posted it through the letterbox!!! despite Amazon packaging stating "fragile" as you can guess to my disappointment on installation it would not work and the drive was damaged internally from the drop by posting it through the letter box and it dropping onto a hard floor - Idiots! Amazon were great at replacing this but at the time it was frustrating and I demanded a different delivery company to which they agreed and the replacement was delivered as it should of been with a knock at the door. It has been faultless and the drive runs very quiet and smooth and has been in daily use ever since purchase, it also has a 7200 spin speed which is better than a 5400 spin speed and has a decent 32MB buffer. All in all very pleased with this drive which has been reliable without any faults. Service from Amazon was fantastic and the packaging was great just a shame the first delivery was with Yodel!

Very cheap and very fast. I usually expect cheap hard drives to be small and fast but this one had a large capacity and is very quick at writing. I would definitely recommend this drive to those building budget gaming machines, office machines or just general PCs. It seems very reliable and quiet too!!

I bought two of these and set them up in a RAID 0 formation in a new build machine as data storage. They do what they are supposed to, seem very quick. Good price as well. Oops.. 8 days after installation one of the drives started clicking and failed. Fortunately the operating system (Windows 7-64) is on a separate SSD. I switched off and let the box fully cool down. Switched on again and all was fine for a while, long enough to make sure I had a complete backup. Then more clicks and failure. This is the bathtub probability distribution in action: hard drives either have a tiny fault and fail in the first few weeks or they last for years. I ordered a replacement drive (same model) through Amazon yesterday and it came today and I've swapped out the defective one for return to Amazon. The new one is working well so far and I'm just restoring files to it. The occasional failure is just bad luck and it could happen to any hard drive so I'm not going to mark it down. Four stars.

Bought this to extend my Hackintosh storage which did the job very well and the transfer speed was good. The noise is very low even hard to hear delivered brand new in statics bag and their customer services are excellent were very helpful

I purchased this product for reliable media storage of archive data. My decision to choose this particular product was based on my own research and reassurance of a well known brand. Arrived promptly in good condition. Using a hard drive docking station attached to an iMac the drive mounted immediately and worked flawlessly on the first day as I copied data onto the hard drive. On the second day I plugged in the drive to add more data but this time it failed to mount. In order to eliminate possible faults on other devices I tried the same drive and docking station on a Mac laptop with same failure to mount. To eliminate the docking station i took the drive to a nearby trusted computer specialist who was also unable to mount the drive. The technician told me that the drive simply wasn't powering-up (spinning). In his opinion it suggested an electrical fault in the drive's circuit board rather than the mechanical disk itself and it was quite likely the data was still on the drive. Fortunately my data is still safely contained on my computer hard drive and I've initiated the return of the Toshiba Hard Drive to Amazon. In an attempt to be as objective as possible to future purchasers I would say that it's probably a case of infant mortality for this drive to fail within a couple of days. I'm sure that there are many owners of the same product that have experienced very satisfactory operation and life of their hard drive. However I will have to give the lowest start rating based on personal experience and disappointment. Based on this incident Toshiba won't be on my shopping list for a long time to come but I still believe it's a good and trusted brand by many. It's worth mentioning the Amazon experience of returning a faulty product. Having been a customer of Amazon for many years I can't recall ever sending a product back before so this is new ground for me. The online process was very simple and my only minor criticism is that Amazon only allow 200 characters to detail the fault. But the most welcome and pleasant surprise was the fact that Amazon action the refund to the original payment card immediately rather than wait for the return of the product. This softens the disappointed and inconvenience of dealing with the return of a faulty product. I'm a little concerned about returning the drive containing my data even though their are no state secrets or sensitive personal details. I trust Amazon and their vendors deal with data on returned products in a responsible and confidential way. Overall: disappointed with the purchase but happy with Amazon efficient returns procedure so I will continue to buy from Amazon in the future. I will print a copy of this review and pop it in the return package - someone at Amazon might note some of these small points.

It was the cheapest 500GB 7200RPM drive i could find. It's decently fast. Its been in use since march and I've had no problems with it.

I bought this to help with fault finding in a PC, the drive went straight in and has been successful part of the recovery of the PC. It cam on time as expected and was well packed.

prompt delivery, good price, works fine so far (has only been a week), I only needed it for a DVR. Maybe perhaps slightly noisy, but really no issues so far.

My husband said it was good. It met his expectations and he is happy with it.

Reçu assez rapidement sans être Prime. Par contre emballage très sommaire (papier bulle et petit carton moyennement scotché) Sinon, le disque est parfait, testé avant mise en route via Hard Disk Sentinel. Disque rapide malgré que ce soit un disque à plateau.

The drive cam the next morning, faster than expected! It was VERY well packaged to protect against damage. Installation was a breeze and the drive was super quiet. The price was very reasonable and the quality is good. I will definitely buy from them again!
