Good general purpose shredder oil that does the job as required. No down sides.
The size is just right for ease of use, storeage and handling. Gentle squeeze seems to do the job when it comes to use on our small household shredder. The blades certainly worked smother and the runtime extended before the motor needed to cool. It looks like a quality thin machine oil, so I have to accept that. Given this is in effect a disposable oil, the residue being wicked away as the paper is shredding, durability seems a moot point. The same applies to ease of emptying. As to the shredder getting hot, that is again a moot point but I can say that it took longer for it to get hot.

I think I may have salvaged my old shredder.
I’ve had my shredder for years but I didnt know that I should use oil on it, but a few months ago, I noticed that the sound had changed. I had planned to buy a new one but saw this oil, so looked into it, I used it yesterday for the first time, left it to soak for a few minutes, used the shredder, then used the oil again. I hope that second drop will soak in and aid me next time I use the shredder. I have to say though, it seem to sound better and there are now no hard paper clumps stuck in the blades. It’s all nice and clean.

Don't neglect your shredder!
My Fellowes shredder was over-heating and cutting out after only a few minutes of shredding. Oiling the machine made a big difference and it now runs much longer before the automatic cut-out kicks in. Definitely worth using, and it should prolong the life of the shredder. Recommended.

My Script shredder was dying: it had served me well for the last 15 years or more of home use, but it was clearly performing less well recently. I had never oiled it, because I had assumed that putting oil in the shredder mechanism would tend to bind the paper dust & shreddings together, eventually jamming up the works. I concluded that my Script shredder was simply worn out & that I needed to buy a new paper shredder for disposing of confidential documents. The instructions for my replacement shredder, a Fellows Powershred 12C (4 x 40mm high-security DIN P-4 crosscut) paper shredder, state that “All shredders require oil for peak performance. If not oiled, a machine may experience diminished sheet capacity, intrusive noise when shredding & undue stress on the gears.” The instructions go on to recommend oiling my new Fellows shredder each time I empty the waste bin, with Fellows shredder oil or lubricant sheets… That being the case, my Script shredder had survived exceptionally well! It had, though, become slower & noisier, & it will now shred only 3 or 4 sheets at a time, instead of its specified capacity of 8 sheets of paper at a time - but it still works, so I am giving it away to someone who has no shredder. Before doing so, I have oiled it, though I have not noticed immediate miraculous improvement in its performance. In any case, my new Fellows shedder can chew through 12 sheets of paper simultaneously, can shred continuously for 20 mins (the Script only 5) before 30 mins cool- down period & is quicker & quieter, with a wastepaper drawer which slides out, instead of having to lift of the shredder mechanism off the top of the waste bin, dropping a few bits of shred paper on the floor from the bottom of the shredder blades. I can’t yet verify how well the oiled shredder will perform or last in the long term, but the new shredder, with new blades freshly oiled, is shredding well. for my first supply of shredder oil, I got this 355ml bottle of Fellows shredder oil, because that was the type of oil recommended, & because Amazon had an offer on of this oil … considerably cheaper than I could find it elsewhere at present. I don’t know yet how quickly 355ml of oil will be used up, so only as this bottle of oil nears its end will I determine what oil to get next. One advantage of relatively small bottles of shredder oil like this is that they generally come with a spout suitable for applying the oil directly to the shredder blades, whereas larger quantities of shredder oil, while they might be cheaper per 100ml, are generally supplied without a spout, meaning that oil from them has to be decanted into a spouted container before application to the blades. When more experienced in the use of the shredder oil, I will decide what to get next. Have a look for yourself on the web as to whether specific shredder oil is really required. Some people suggest that any vegetable oil can be used; others that oil designed especially for paper shredders should be used. What is generally agreed upon is that aerosol cans of oil should bestrictly avoided, because there is a risk of explosion if flammable propellant gets a spark from the electric motor, or excessive heat from the shredder mechanism. Use of mineral oil is also frowned upon. I assume that my new Fellows shredder was probably oiled before I received it, but I have nevertheless given it a quick dose of oil on receipt of this 355ml plastic bottle of ‘Fellowes Shredder Oil for Micro Cut and Cross Cut Paper Shredders’

Oil is OK but avoid Fellowes shredders
The oil lubricated the cutting teeth, so I guess it works OK. Oil is oil, not much more I can say about it. But the Fellowes shredder we bought to use the oil on broke super quick after minimal use. According to Fellowes (and absent from the listing info) the shredder can only handle 30 sheets of paper in a day. What?! Anything more, you void the warranty, and they tell you to do one. So avoid Fellowes - terrible brand, terrible products and their after-sales 'care' is a joke.
