Great product
This was perfect for what I needed. I bought 2 other aluminum fid's but both of them were to small for my rope. This was much better price and fit rope. The only bad thing is it would not slide through the rope as well as the aluminum ones. But I would recommend this over and over.

Ok
I thought surely they can't be that bad, but the metal fids are like butter compared to this at least for half inch Samson rope. It was like the hardness of the rope and the plastic the fid is made of was too close so they gripped each other. I used a size smaller fid to aid in sliding through to no avail. I did successfully make 6 eye splices in the rope but it was difficult. Splicing a different type of rope material may be easier. I was able to make it work with a 6$ tool compared to 50+$ for a metal fid kit though so you have to weigh your options. Also I am fairly experienced in splicing so it might have been a little easier for me to make this tool work compared to one who has never spliced.

Mariners splicing Fids
These make splicing rope easy, the three sizes should be kept on every sailboat, made out of durable aBS plastic good buy for the money. They come in three of the most common sizes for working on the most common thicknesses of rope aboard yachts. Yeah the thickness was just right until they were stolen. Going to have to buy some more.

Horrible for Dyneema! But it will work.
DO NOT USE FOR DYNEEMA! It isn’t possible to bury the rope. Even after cleaning off all the plastic burrs and sanding and slight heating to get rid of the scratches it’s straight trash! Other than Dyneema this tool will get the job done. It is considerably cheaper than aluminum. If you are looking for cheap and useable, this is for you. If you are looking for a more reliable long term solution, go with Aluminum.

Product poorly made
I purchased these fids to make some aider's for my climbing sticks, they will not transition thought the rope due to how rough they are. There is a ridges that runs the entire length of the fid and a hole on the bottom that gets caught on every fiber of the amsteel when attempting to hide the berry. If your looking to do some rope splicing I would recommend aluminum. I would have returned them but i am past my window to do so.
