Door Buddy Cat Door Prop

This is a really great product. It's so simple, easy to install, and works exactly how you'd hope. This company has two versions of the door buddy:1. A soft strap version, which just sticks to the door and frame with strong adhesive. So it requires no tools at all to install, just takes a minute or two, and seems to hold very well. It can be removed without any damage. It does require you to lift and replace the latch each time you use the door. That means you have to remember to relatch it every time (and you have to trust other family members to relatch it...kids, husband, etc.). But, it also means you can fully close the door whenever you need to.2. This version is a more rigid, plastic version. This one is also very easy to install. My six-year-old wanted to do it, so I let her, and she was able to install it easily (and had fun doing it). You just use a screwdriver to remove the door plate. Then you replace it with this product. Done. Now you can open and close the door with the doorknob just like you'd use any door. This one is very convenient because you don't have to remember to relatch anything (or trust anyone else in the house to remember). You just use the door as normal. The downside here is that you cannot close the door fully while this is installed.So, I have both versions of the product. Right now, I have an adult cat and a new kitten. I also have a dog, who likes to get into the litterbox, if given the chance (yuck). The cat's litterbox is in the laundry room. I have the rigid version on the laundry room door. It works great.When we added the kitten, we made a little space for her in the guest bathroom with her own litterbox in there. I bought the soft strap version. I don't love having to reattach it each time, but I needed to be able to fully close the bathroom door sometimes (so it can be a usable bathroom for humans, and also so I can sometimes close the kitten in there to keep her safe while we're gone).Anyway, I'm just really glad this product exists. It's such a simple, affordable device that solved a very practical problem.

Great solution to cordoning off areas for smaller pets (cats) from larger ones (dogs). Also works as a good way to prop open the door to a screened in porch allowed a cat easy access to the safe outdoors without having to worry about the door being closed on them.Very easy to install. Comes with pads to prevent door and frame marring. Easy to close door with prop installed as well. Easily adjustable for width of opening as well.

Wish I knew about Door Buddy’s Door Prop earlier but oh am I’m ever so grateful to have it now!!! The functionality is genius! By keeping the door to the garage propped but in a more secure fixed position allows the cats their own personal space. We keep their food and litter box which is safer for our 4 dogs. It’s easy to install. You will need a star shaped screwdriver to unscrew the strike plate from the door frame. Using existing screws attach the Door Prop. You can easily adjust door opening 3” to 5.5” with a provided small * shaped screwdriver. The door still operates normally with the ability to completely shut BUT it’s cumbersome especially when we’re trying to enter from the garage. It takes 2 hands to completely open the door. This is a very important detail for us. Especially if you’re trying to keep run away dogs from escaping. Other than that I will definitely order again.

Update: 12lb cat. These are adjustable when installing. I put them on the largest size for my cat to have plenty of room. After a month of open and closing the door, they are back to their original small size. My 12lb cat can still fit but barely. Now it seems like I have to adjust them every week to stay “open.” I’m looking into ways to try to make it permanently on the longest size.Original review: 10 out of 10. I had the kind that hook over the door handle then you kinda loop the pin into the hole in the door. They were fine but I wanted something better. Well I got better at a great price. I wish I would have bought these in the first place and saved my money on the others. They were so easy to instal and o can close my door completely with no additional effort. I say buy these!

We have an 8 year old cat that is quite used to the run of the house. Then we rescued a very curious fully grown 17 pound bundle of energy. I was wracking my brain to figure out how to keep the dog out of the cat haven which includes tasty meals and other unmentionable treats. We didn't want to install a child gate, even one that would be modified to keep the dog out while allowing the cat to come and go. I decided to check on Amazon for a solution and this fits the bill in many ways: Allows the smaller cat access without letting the dog in, and prevents the dog from jumping over any gate arrangement. Also the kit installs easily and allows quick entry to the room, and allows the door to be fully closed as normal. It's also reversable, requiring no special installation and can be restored to the normal latch if desired. One tip: make sure the adjustable security screws are tight--they can take the tension--as insistent heads can push open a half-hearted attempt.

The Door Buddy prop for cats is an all-purpose way to keep your door open for any reason! We originally ordered this device because we were looking for something to keep our front door slightly ajar for additional air flow when we run our evaporative cooler in the house--we have a screened security door that we can also lock.It was very easy to install with a standard screwdriver. Also, we don't have any dogs, but we have two cats who take turns looking out the front door when we have it open a little. They are indoor cats and this is entertainment for them!This is one of those gadgets that you would buy and hope you are not wasting your money because it doesn't work the way it is supposed to--but this "gadget" actually works! This door prop has a dual purpose for us, and it is worth every penny! We highly recommend this door prop.

Not too sure how long this will hold up, as it could have used a few minor upgrades. The plate on this is much smaller than the original so only one hole will line up. I’m surprised using either one of my previous screw holes aligned well enough for the door to be able to continue to latch. In order to secure it better I did end up screwing the other screw into the carved out area which had I not owned the house I would not be able to do. The piece that’s suppose to sit on the trim is a good 1/2” away from my trim. Maybe this could have been adjustable as well??? I love the ease of use, but there is some slight play when it’s in its open position and I’m hoping breezes from my window doesn’t cause it to constantly move. Time will tell if my small rambunctious chihuahua can still force the door open. Guaranteed a larger dog could easily open the door no problem.Overall happy with it, but not expecting this to hold up long term. Time will tell.

This Door Buddy Door Prop is an absolute lifesaver! I was looking for a simple way to let my cats into the room with their food and litter box while keeping the door mostly closed for privacy and to prevent it from accidentally blowing shut and locking them out.It was incredibly easy to install and adjust to the exact width I needed. It holds the door securely open just enough for the cats to slip through comfortably, without me having to install a permanent cat door or leave the door wide open. The latch is simple to use when I need to close the door completely, too. If you need to give your cats their own safe, accessible space, I highly recommend this!

Good however wish could close the door still.

This simple gadget works extremely well. I installed it on our bedroom door and adjusted to the very smallest gap 3.5 inches. This lets our scrawny elderly cat slip through, but keeps out the dog and our daughters 2 large girth cats so that we can let the old cat have his own food (or any food for that matter) as the other 3 are pigs. It took around 5 mins to install. I like that you can close the door completely if needed. The door just slips past the prop no issue. The prop is strong enough (a heavy plastic) that it stays secure when the 50lb dog sticks it stout through the gap and tries to push open the door (with no success). I highly recommend this unit.

I can’t believe there are actually reviews on here that are less than 5 stars! It’s design of perfect in every day. It is the simplest install and most effective way to limit access to areas for pets, etc. without closing off the area. When my pup was small, I made the opening small so only the cats could fit, and as my pup got bigger, I opened the hatch bigger to give the cats more space to get through. It’s a high quality item and keeps my very strong, 70 lb American Bully out of the cats designated space. And I’m very picky when it comes to how well household items function - and I genuinely can’t find one possible improvement for this item. When I ordered it, I thought “it’s pretty expensive for what you get”, but I was very wrong. Great bang for your buck with this item! Highly recommend!
