No they're not for storing books, toys, clothes, etc in great value for money

Will the boxes stack without the need of the lids?

Yes the boxes stack without their lids fitted. However the lands on the lower box are not large and the upper boxe can move about a bit. OK for light and medium loads but think twice before putting a box full of books on top of another unlidded one.
