Saved my files after an OS crash
My desktop computer recently decided to stop working. I was able to get it to boot up once in every three or four tries, but the system would then crash within five minutes. I had most of my files backed up to the cloud - except for over 200 movies I'd ripped from DVD in order to stream them on Plex. Recovering those files became critical. This external hard drive dock worked perfectly. My laptop quickly recognized the docked hard drive and read all the files I had feared were lost forever. It couldn't have been easier - truly plug-and-play. I didn't experience any loud noises mentioned in other reviews, and had no issues with my 2 TB drive. Heat was dissipated efficiently and the dock never got hot. This external dock is a lifesaver.

As advertised. Good buy.
I have used this item for a while now with both 2.5 and 3.5-inch drives. This item works very well. As a bonus, the drives are easily swapped.

Speeds of copies is unpredictable. But does eventually complete.
I love that this product makes an old 2TB HD portable to other computers. I noticed while transferring 260GB that it either randomly had the speed go to 0bytes/s or it'd be after each file. Either way, I don't think this is typical HD behavior hence the 4 star rating. But the device is recognized read/writable and works. It is plug and play and was easy to use.

Buy what you need - read the directions .
My mistake to buy this- i needed a IDE station not a SATA station. Be sure you buy what you need. I returned this - 5 stars because it was a good item and someone who needs this type would be happy.

Easy Drive Use
Worked as advertised. I used it to test some new hard drives I got used. Being able to quickly swap them in and out was nice, better than having to manually connect SATA cables. Ran into no issues using it.

worked fine for a few months then died
Model: DD18U3-US I bought this in June and it seemed to be decent quality at first. After a few months it started to crap out on me. I had a weird issue where this would stop working, then the rest of my entire USB subsystem stopped working. Through process of elimination and many frustrating reboots (where I could only access my computer via remote desktop), I pinpointed my failures to this enclosure. On my last attempt recently, this would show up for a second in windows then immediately disconnect. When connected to a linux pc, it just spits out device errors. I tried multiple drives that all work fine in another dock, tried different cables, multiple computers, etc. I just reached out to their support and will update this with a couple stars once I am able to get a replacement but I would still recommend a different dock since I imagine the replacement will suffer the same short term lifespan.

Docking station failure within 5 months
11/30/2025 - I was initially quite happy with this docking station, however it failed within 5 months... Purchased in June and it stopped working in November of same year. Not good. I tested the same drive in another dock by Sabrent and it worked fine. I also confirmed the usb cable and power supply were fine, so it was the ORICO hardware itself that failed. Looking at 1 star reviews, I'm not the only one this has happened to... 12/8/2025 - Updating my review from one star to three since ORICO reached out to me and offered a full refund. They also mentioned that the dock is covered by an 18 month warranty and that "You may contact us anytime through our customer service channels, and we will assist you fully." So I reached out to ORICO customer service and didn't hear anything back after the first two days. I reached out again and someone finally replied to me and asked for my Amazon order ID which I provided. They responded stating that they already provided a full refund and that they would look into the issue and work on improving product quality. They also stated "If everything is in order, we kindly request you help us with shopping experience". So the response from customer service is about what I expected although I was disappointed it took over a week and multiple attempts before customer support resolved my inquiry. Although I did get a refund I consider this purchase to be a net negative experience since it took a fair amount of my time to debug the issue, file a review, message back and forth on a refund, find a replacement dock from another vendor, etc. I plan to avoid ORICO products going forward.

Works great, plug-and-play
I bought this drive dock for one simple purpose: to securely erase the dozen or so old hard drives I had lying around. Mostly WD and Seagate drives from RAID enclosures. I just hook this dock to my Mac mini (the dock comes with an AC adapter that is needed), insert an old drive, then use a simple Terminal command (sudo diskutil secureErase 1 /dev/diskX for 1 pass for disk numbered X), to secure-erase the drive. A 2TB 5400RPM magnetic-platter drive takes about 5 hours for one pass. The only downside, for those looking to use this long-term, is the dock uses an uncommon USB B cable (aka printer USB cable) with A on the host end, instead of the now popular C-to-C interface. If you lose the cable that comes with the dock, you'll need to find or buy a new one.
