Love them so far - maybe a bit pricey though?
I bought these to replace my plastic mixing bowls. I got tired of the plastic bowls cracking, chipping, warping in the dishwasher and staining from foods (despite them being advertised and highly reviewed for NOT doing those things). I've had these for about a week and have already used them 3 times a day, every day, since I got them. I read reviews for these stainless steel Viking bowls and there were some reviews that complained about the lids not really being air-tight and just simply loosely sitting on the top of the bowl. So naturally, that was the first thing I tested when I got them. The lids were not only nice and snug, it actually took a little applied force seal them on top. They were definitely air tight - but I had to be sure they were completely locked in on top of the bowls or they would pop out of place along the rim. I'm NOT saying to put a bunch of meat and marinade in these and turn it upside down like Dairy Queen does with blizzards, but it is a nice seal still still - happy with that! I've used these a lot already for marinading meat, making mashed potatoes with beaters, tossed salads and veggies, dip, etc. I've put them through the dish washer several times already as well. The only note I have is that the rubber gripping on the bottom seemed to fade in color just a little bit from the nice new matte black - to a slightly more faded black. This doesn't both me, function matters more and the color of rubber to me. The grippy bottoms have already saved me a couple times from the bowl sliding on of off the counter or slipping out of my hands. I have NOT been putting the lids in the dishwasher. I am hand washing those as they are plastic and I don't want them to crack or warp. While it seems to be a nice tough, but still somewhat flexible plastic. The packaging says they are dishwasher safe but so did all the plastic bowls and lids I've bought in the past and that didn't work out great. If you do put them in the dishwasher, I recommend top shelf on a low-temp heat cycle without a heat dry. This is simply based on how plastic has faired in my own dishwasher in the past. So far, so good. But it is stainless steel, and I'd expect it to generally be tougher than plastic. It is a bit pricey for what it is. There were much more cost efficient stainless steel bowl options that I looked at that seemed to be basically the same in design, just different brands, but I ultimately decided on these based off average reviews.

ATTRACTIVE, USEFUL, AND WELL MADE
BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE: I prefer large bowls for the following irrefutable reasons: 1. Bowls don't hold as much as people think they do. Their rated size is based on the amount of liquid they will hold when filled right up to the absolute tiptop of the rim, not the amount people can actually work with comfortably. Trying to mix ingredients in a bowl more than 2/3 full is courting disaster. Upping to the next larger bowl size is always a good--and safe--idea. The same principle applies to pots and pans. 2. Anything that can be done in a small bowl can be done just as well in the next larger size, and probably the next larger size after that. Therefore, small bowls aren't as useful as most people think. Their only socially redeeming value is possibly for storage. Consequently, my experience says that the most useful bowls are the 3 quart, 5 quart, and 8 quart sizes. That's what I need, and that's what I wanted. However, bowl sets don't come in just those sizes, and very few include the most valuable 8 quart size. The Viking set does include an 8 quart bowl, however, and that brings us to their 5 bowl set with lids. Viking is a brand well known and respected in the restaurant business. The bowls are fairly thick without being heavy to lift with food in them, as the same size glass bowls would be. Rims are about 1/2" wide to give the bowls structural rigidity and to allow a good handhold, and the edges are rolled for safety. The shape of the bowls is what initially attracted me. Their profile is a modified U-shape with sides high enough to contain even the most energetic mixing, but not so tall that access for stirring is difficult. The bowl bottoms aren't narrow by any means, but being slightly wider would make them even more stable, which is true of every bowl, no matter what brand. Admittedly, this is a very minor point, and no one should have any trouble with the Viking bowls tipping. The bottoms are covered with a silicone cap, which keeps the bowls from clanking when they're set down on a hard surface. The silicone caps are advertised as keeping the bowls from sliding, and they do, but I suspect that most people hold onto the bowl when stirring and have more sense than to set one down on a very tilted surface, anyway. The lids are plastic, not silicone like the bottom caps, and push-fit snugly down inside the bowls. Some YouTube reviewers fill one of the bowls with water, push on the lid, and then turn the bowl upside down and shake it to show that the lids are watertight. At this moment I'd prefer that the lids fasten over the bowl rims instead of taking up space inside the bowl, but they fit down into the bowl only about 3/4", so it's not really an issue, and I suspect that more experience with the lids may eventually change my mind about their design. One thing I won't change my mind about is wishing that the entire set could stack inside itself with all the lids firmly attached. It does so nicely without the lids, but I'd prefer that all the lids could be attached. They don't miss by much, only by less than 1/2", and the largest lid can be laid but not installed on top of the whole set. Nevertheless, my OCD wishes that all the bowls and their lids could be sealed up tight into one unit. I suspect my compromise to keep everything clean and dust free in storage will be to stack the bowls, put all the lids inside the largest bowl except the 5 quart lid if they will fit, install the largest lid, and set the 5 quart lid inside a Ziplock bag on top. While the 8 quart bowl is admittedly large (12-3/8" wide), and it would be worthwhile to measure the space where you plan to store the whole set before you order it, it's noteworthy that the 8 quart Viking bowl is only about 1/2" wider than a Pyrex 4 quart glass mixing bowl, so the Viking 8 quart is only slightly wider and about 2" taller but holds TWICE as much as the Pyrex bowl. Plus, when I'm mixing things in the Viking bowl, I don't feel like I'm chasing the ingredients around a wide bowl or about to stir anything over the shallow edge like I do with the flat-profiled Pyrex. Despite their being made of high quality steel, and even more so because of it, I recommend using non-metallic utensils with the Viking bowls. Metal will scratch metal, and the polished interior of the bowls is attractive enough to preserve. Non-metal utensils can be used on any surface, but metallic tools can and will damage any surface except glass. Stubborn stains can be treated with Bar Keepers Friend. FYI, don't marinate food in these bowls for long periods, because the acids in marinade will pit ANY metal, even stainless steel. Long marinades are what glass bowls are for. For the reasons above and even with the 2 smaller, less useful bowls, I highly recommend that you reward your intelligence with the Viking 10 piece mixing bowl set. EDIT: I confess that I used the smallest bowl to store some leftover food, so in all honesty I have to admit that the 2 smaller bowls do have some uses.

Built to last and ready for anything!
If you're in the market for mixing bowls that are built to last, the Viking Stainless Steel Nesting Mixing Bowls are the ultimate choice. These bowls are a true kitchen powerhouse—sturdy, reliable, and made to handle any task, from whipping up batter to tossing salads. Unlike many other mixing bowls that can feel flimsy or lightweight, the Viking bowls are made with heavy-duty stainless steel, which means they’re built to last and won’t warp, dent, or lose their shape over time. The nesting design is incredibly convenient for storage, saving space while still offering a variety of sizes for all your cooking needs. The smooth, brushed finish gives them a sleek, professional look, while the wide rims make pouring and mixing easy and mess-free. Whether you're a home cook or a seasoned chef, these bowls stand head and shoulders above the rest in terms of quality and durability. They’re the kind of kitchen essential you’ll rely on for years to come.

My second set!!
This is my second set of these bowls and it was a no brainer for me to buy these again! I absolutely love these bowls. They stack beautifully, the kids fit perfect and tight, they are sturdy, I love the color! They are lightweight but yet can handle anything I have put in it. I would definitely buy another set in the future if need be!

Perfect Choice
Was hard to chose exactly what I wanted in stainless steel bowls, but am very happy with these Viking ones. Nice variety of sizes. I did use an electric mixed in one of them and there are some scratches in the bottom, but not a problem with the finish on the bowl. Usually use a silicone spatula with these when mixing. Lids fit well. I haven't put the bowls or lids in the dishwasher. Just wash them by hand to avoid any potential problems. Looked for these for a long time and am so happy with them. I will say that they all fit on my cupboard shelf except the big one. I keep it down below on a deeper shelf. Really like the silicone on the bottom so it doesn't slide around when mixing. All in all a great pick.

Great bowls but lids could be better.
Had these for about 6 months. The bowls are still pretty solid. The lids are pretty flimsy from the start but haven’t had any major issues yet; just some minor warping. We have only hand washed the lids.

Really nice set of kitchen bowls - got sick of the plastic ones and wanted something more durable
I became very frustrated trying to clean and remove stains from our plastic mixing bowls and decided to toss them out and get something made of metal. These are very affordable and very solid - thick metal and definitely not flimsy. The lids are a nice bonus and make overnight marinating a lot easier - no plastic wrap needed, and the rubberized bottoms keep them from sliding around on our metal kitchen island. Cleanup is also easy since you can just drop them in the dishwasher. If these things ever wear out I'll look to to replace them with the same set, but that may be a very long time from now as they aren't showing any signs of wear at all.

Nice set of stainless steel bowls.
Bowls are very sturdy and well made. I love the grip that you get from the rubber bottom. They nest together making for good storage. Mixing is easy. I use the largest size to mix up enough dough to make 4 loaves of bread at one time. Good variety in sizes.

Great set of bowls
Sturdy bowls, silicone bottoms help them keep steady with no clanking, lots of sizes, lids fit tightly, they all nest inside the biggest bowl so don’t take up too much space. You can get cheaper sets but they skimp on one or more of the above. A great buy for the serious home cook.

But premium buy once.
The only bowls you will ever need. Don’t worry about scratching the insides my wife use a metal power whisk just enjoy them. Wish I’d bought them years ago. I once left one on the electric hob and it boiled the water in it but didn’t touch the silicone, you would have never known it had been on a hob. Top quality
