Capture Card, USB Video Capture Card Device, Audio Video Converter Grabber for RCA to USB-Convert VHS Mini DV VCR Hi8 DVD to Digital, for PC TV Tape Player Camcorder, MAC Windows Vista Compatible

I bought this to provide a composite video input to a Raspberry Pi Zero 2W. It's fully compatible, and it works great, taking video at 8+ fps (about the limit for my inexpensive MPI3501-based 480x320 SPI LCD to display) using OpenCV on Python. I have not tried the audio input at this time. It was really easy to set up, with an LLM's programming guidance at least. (: Video quality and capability of the stream from this device exceeds what my cheap display can output. That setup generally saturates one of the Zero 2's four cores while video is being captured and displayed, at least the way I have it coded now in Python. It could most likely be made more efficient - I mention this only for the benefit of future hobbyists considering this device for video capture on a Pi. At any rate - buy with confidence!

I bought this to convert old VHS tapes to digital on my computer. It got the job done and I would recommend it. It’s compatible with any VCR as long as you have the proper cables. It connects well and secure without the wires disconnecting. There is no noise at all and it has a solid looking design. It’s very versatile as not only can you convert VHS as I did but also other things such as DVDs and more. The recording performed well and looks ok. There is some slight audio desync if it’s a longer video but nothing too bad. Overall I would recommend especially for the low price.

The USB Video Capture Card (RCA to USB Converter) works exactly as advertised — no complications, just plug and play. I used it to capture footage from old camcorders, and it worked flawlessly on my Mac. You don’t need any fancy software — just open QuickTime, choose this device as your input source, and hit record. The video quality is solid for old analog content, and audio synced perfectly. It’s compact, inexpensive, and works better than expected. This capture card is quite good for its price. It is Plug n’ Play and works flawlessly with Linux, Windows & Mac (untested). I will preface by saying I bought this as a cheap solution to restoring some of my old VHS tapes, as I do not want any hardware upscaling or deinterlacing happening at the capture stage. This CC does not upscale, but sadly, it outputs deinterlaced video. That is the only thing keeping me from giving this 5 stars. This is personal preference, as it does quite literally everything else right. However, this is not a good option for archival-grade masters if you intend to apply higher quality, more modern deinterlacing algorithms during or after encoding. Once the fields are gone, you cannot get them back. I am piping this capture card’s ouput directly into FFmpeg to control every aspect of the encode, using dshow on Windows and /dev/video0 on Linux. Both work well. I have not tested it on Mac and do not care to. The device also shows up as a Generic USB Video Capture source in OBS Studio. That said, I would avoid OBS Studio and anything other than FFmpeg if you are highly technical and want the absolute best conversion quality, especially for lossless workflows such as FFV1. Unfortunately, most consumer capture/encoding software hides or outright removes critical parameters, leaving you with little to no control over color space, scaling, filtering, or timing behavior. The card has S-Video and Composite female inputs, which connect securely. I will note that it outputs at 720×576p, and I am unsure whether this is a limitation of the capture card itself or a result of the VCR’s output and internal processing. Either way, the signal presented to the host system is progressive. Who this is for This capture card is a solid choice if you want a simple, reliable, and inexpensive way to digitize analog sources. It works well for restoration projects where convenience, stability, and OS compatibility matter more than absolute archival perfection. Who this is not for This is not for users seeking true archival-grade captures with preserved interlaced fields for later processing. If your workflow depends on advanced software deinterlacing or field-accurate restoration, this capture card will be an inherent limiting factor.

I was looking at spending $200 to send my VHS tapes to an online digitizing service, so I looked for a different way and took a chance on this product. I found a working, used VCR for $10 (with RCA connections) and purchased this Capture Card for also around $10. I was worried that the capture card said it would NOT work with USB 3.0. Both laptops in my house have USB 3.0 slots. However, this WORKED with my USB 3.0 slots. The instructions were surprisingly helpful for this - after plugging in the USB, I was able to see the Capture Card show up in Device Manager. I did NOT use OBS as the instructions suggested. I saw another review recommend VLC Media Player (which I already have) and was able to capture a 10 minute VHS on that without much of a problem. However, it stopped recording audio on a longer video, so I switched to VideoPad Video Editor (which I already had as well). I had another instance where VideoPad quit recording and I didn't notice, but I was able to re-record easily. The video files ended up being about 1 GB per minute (I increased resolution to 720x480, which did make a difference). I then re-processed in VideoPad to get them down to < 100 mb and uploaded them online. In summary - this item WORKS. It was PLUG & PLAY, even with a computer that has USB 3.0. I used VLC and VideoPad Video Editor (both free) instead of OBS (nothing against OBS, I just already had these). Overall, I was able to capture 3-4 hours worth of VHS tapes with very little work, and it cost me 10% of what it would have a cost to have a service do this for me. There were a few hiccups that could have been d/t VLC or VideoPad, but re-recording solved them. It was easy, cheap, and effective.

Handles great. Was able to record old HI8 tapes from a camcorder directly to my macbook air using OBS. It connected very well. I just wish it had USB C or other adapters (HDMI) as well. No noise or heat being generated from the capture card itself. Solid performance for the price. Definitely do recommend.

It is truly plug-and-play. I did not have to scour the web for drivers to use it. I especially liked the instructions that gave a little guidance on what programs to use to capture and how to use them. I had done this for someone else years ago, but programs often move settings around that make it difficult to get your bearings. I decided to use PotPlayer instead of OBS like I did last time, because OBS can be clunky and its suite is more than I needed for this. PotPlayer was perfect for my needs of capturing, then I used Handbrake to split the video into clips based on the time of recording. I needed this device to help someone digitize some tapes. Vhs, 8mm, and another type of camcorder tape that i'm unsure of, but it's smaller than the 8mm and only holds one hour. I have the camcorders for the tapes, so both the 8mm and unknown type were playable, no problem. Both RCA by themselves and RCA with S-video were compatible while directly connected to the camcorders. Sound was nice and loud, with little to no distortion. The signal was strong with no lag that I could detect. The colors matched for the camcorder that had a screen. All of the videos looked true-to-life, with respect given rlto lighting, as far as I can tell. My VCRs are in storage, so I will get them out next week in order to digitize the VHS. I'll update this review if there are any problems, but I doubt that that will be the case. If there are no updates, assume everything went swell.

I've noticed that this device does not record interlaced NTSC video. It outputs at 1280 x 720 (16:9) and you've got to do some work to get it down to 640x480 (4:3) with the correct aspect ratio. It would have been better if the device gave options of correct NTSC/PAL resolutions. The up and downscaling seems to introduce some artifacting to the picture. Not having TBC, there are occasional dropped frames and/or a rolling picture if the video signal isn't great especially on older tapes and at the beginning/ends of recordings. Color saturation and brightness suffer, making darker scenes and some home movies hard to see. There is a noticeable hum introduced with the audio but the audio quality is otherwise OK. I’m fairly impressed of the functionality this device has considering its price. That being said, this is a low-cost device, so if you're not looking for the best quality transfers, this will work fine. If you want better quality transfers, you'll be better off paying the pros for their services. NTSC content is SD and VHS/Beta has an even lower effective resolution so while the best equipment will capture the video with better quality, it will never be the quality of DVD/Blu-ray. I’ve not had any technical issues with this device running on a Mac with OBS and it is recommended as a great device in the under $20 price range for the average home user wanting to convert old tapes. A bit of technical knowledge of NTSC video, resolutions, video compression, file types, etc., will go a long way in obtaining the best possible transfer quality using this device. I'm giving this 4 stars since it works with no technical issues other than having to resize the video to standard definition. The 4 star rating is also based on this being consumer-grade equipment for home-use. This is not a professional solution.

Worked perfectly to digitize a bunch of old VHS tapes. For anyone reading, I used OBS, and had to play around with resolution and framerate settings to get it to record properly (720x576 or 720x480, and 29.97 NTSC).

Very good plug and play product. Videos extracted sucessfully from my old model Sony handycam to my laptop thro OBS studio.

This really is an excellent Capture Card from Brand: 'VIXLW', and I do mean awesome. The idea being that the devices with RCA connectors or S-Video connectors, such as VHS, VCR, Hi8, Personal DVD players, Camcorders and more, can then be linked to a pc/laptop via the included USB port, and then using software the content can be digitised. This USB Video Capture Card converts anologue RCA composite audio/video from the likes of my old tape camcorder into the USB socket of my PC, then capture the audio without any sound card too, and capture the video too. As soon as I plugged in the device to my PC (applicable to Windows), the driver was Automatically installed. Then when I went to 'Device Manager' (in Windows), the extras were indeed there (while the capture device is plugged in): These being Cameras:USB Video [and] Sound, video & game controllers: USB Digital Audio (Please see one of my included images). The device literally WORKED effortlessly. One feature I also liked about this device, was, there was a short USB extender cable included, and this meant rather than plugging in the device to the PC's USB (causing the USB socket to be weighed down and worn), I was able to use the short USB extended cable instead, and this produced far far less wear and tear on the PC's/Laptops precious USB socket(s). I have included images of the capture card from 'VIXLW', showing some amazing results. At last, all those family DVDs, Family VHS camcorder tapes, and more, can be preserved more or less forever, before the actual original tapes fade in time. By the way the makers of this device suggested using 'PotPlayer' (for Windows) or 'OBS' (for Windows). Both programs look quite impressive too, in the instructions provided with this device. I, myself, used VLC player, (Video Lan Player), which captured and recorded, and included again are some of the excellent results. Very impressed indeed. Great price for such a useful and easy to use device. I really don't know why many people are struggling with this device in these reviews, truly it works, and I hope the info here helps more too.
