Great Device!
This ethernet network adapter works very well for my Chromebook. Since it adapts to a USB 3.0 interface, it is able to take advantage of the increased speeds USB 3.0 has to offer. It has the capacity to work with internet speeds up to 1000mbps. In the 8 months I have owned this device, I have never experienced any problems with it. This device is simple to use: plug the ethernet cord into it, plug the USB end into the computer, and start browsing. If you are using a Windows or Chromebook computer, there are no additional steps required. I have not tested this on a Linux or Mac computer. The device is powered by the USB port as well, which means that an external power source is not required. I have tested the speed this ethernet adapter provides and have compared it to my desktop computer, and the speeds are identical. In my tests, the maximum download speed my service provider provides is 25mbps, so I have not tested the upper limits of the device. However, I suspect that the device will work well on those upper speeds. The device itself is solid in its construction. I carry it in my book bag, and as the contents shift and settle, this device ends up at the bottom, below books, other devices, and other wires. It stands up under all of that pressure without breaking or even bending. Many newer tablets and laptops ship without an ethernet port (to reduce the size of the device, in most cases). This is the perfect tool to have to compensate. Simply carry this around in a book bag or suitcase, and you will be able to use an ethernet cable wherever one may be. Overall, I would recommend this device to anyone who needs an ethernet to USB 3.0 adapter.

All working now after replacement =D
Update 2: Just received a replacement from Cable Matters, and as expected, Windows 10 recognized the device instantly without needing to install driver manually, on USB 3.0 ports!! Good speed and reliable connection after 2-hour gaming/streaming! The first adapter should have worked the first time but I'm giving it a five star for the company's fast response and easy resolution. They included prepaid envelop for me to drop off and return the original adapter to them. The first adapter must have been defective. So anyone having issue with this adapter working on USB 3.0 ports should try getting into contact with Cable Matters. They can probably take care of you very well =) Update: after reading reviews for another product on Amazon, I found people are having issues with USB 3.0 ports. So I tried this adapter on a USB 2.0 port, and boom it worked, even without manually installing drivers as Windows 10 recognized the device and downloaded driver by itself! However, I bought this cable for my laptop, which does not have a USB 2.0 port. If anyone successfully used this adapter on a USB 3.0 port in Windows 10, please let me know. Much appreciation! I don't know how other people can get this thing (UBS 3.0 Version) connected to their computers. There should be no driver needed for Windows 10, because the Windows was able to detect the driver and install them automatically. Even so, after it failed to work that way, I had hope that maybe using a driver directly from the ASIX website, magic will happen. It turns out magic rarely happens. Tried the latest standalone driver as well as the driver installer directly from ASIX, Windows 10 is still giving hardware malfunction notice. Specifically, I've attached the error message to this review as screenshots. First one is the pop-up notification, the second one was the window that gives more info after you click the error message in the notification center. I tried this adapter across various Windows 10 machines and it failed to work on all alike. I suspect a defective hardware. Bummer. I was getting this adapter in a rush to get a project done, but now I'll have to wait for another couple days.

Awesome results!
Two years and👍If you're using this for an upgrade on an old laptop or maybe a streaming device, it's an absolute must. I've tried several others and this one operates with optimal results.

This product is a must have for anyone who works in the IT field. Great product!
I was having a weird issue on my home network where my router (Thanks AT&T) was acting completely bonkers. I was having issues with ARP/IP addresses. I spent hours trying to diagnose this issue and I came to the conclusion that my NIC or the router was the issue. I decided that buying this lil guy would be useful for future network troubleshooting and I couldn't really reset my router. I plugged it in and my router was yet again answering my computer again. I got the ok to blow away the router and start over. Now this nic sits in my tech bag to help troubleshoot future issues. Pro's: - Price - The price on this makes it something that should be in every troubleshooting kit - Drivers - Windows 7 Ult seemed to have built in compatible drivers. I imagine windows 10 does as well. - USB 3 - with USB 2.0, you would be restricted to 480mbps at best Con's: - I am not sure I can really answer this as I didn't use it for an extended period of time. All in all, if you work in the IT field, this is a product you should own. You often times run into areas where an extra NIC can be useful. Since this can be used in laptops or desktops, is really cheap, and is very compact, I would highly recommend this. Now days, companies are releasing laptops that only include WIFI so this gives you a way to connect over a hard line. Also this works with Windows tablets. I should try it with android and see how it works.

Smart TV bandwidth improvement
I purchased this dongle specifically to improve the available bandwidth on my new TCL Android/Google TV (55q550g) smart TV. After several tries with other dongles that didn't work, this dongle automatically set up properly, and is delivering 500-800 mbps upload and download service to my TV. I would suspect any recent TCL or other brand smart TV with 3.0 USB port would deliver similar performance. Good choice to expand usable bandwidth for TVs on a stable gigabit ethernet LAN.

Go Cheap, All USB Ethernet Cables Will Eventually Fail
This USB Ethernet adapter gets slightly barely warm within seemingly one spot, definitely not hot or wasting energy. The USB-3 cable is very thin, and I do not expect the cable to last long with little stress; while all other USB-3 USB Ethernet adapters also failing with thicker or larger diameter wires/cables. Changed my game plan, just buying cheap USB Ethernet adapters, as the cables will eventually fail, regardless of caring for the cable. The Cable Matters USB Ethernet 10/100/1000 adapter is made in China, while the 10/100 version is made in Thailand. Cable Matters is a US based company. kern.info: usb 4-1: new SuperSpeed USB device number 4 using xhci_hcd kern.info: usb 4-1: New USB device found, idVendor=0bda, idProduct=8153, bcdDevice=30.00 kern.info: usb 4-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=6 kern.info: usb 4-1: Product: USB 10/100/1000 LAN kern.info: usb 4-1: Manufacturer: CMI kern.info: usb 4-1: SerialNumber: 000000 kern.info: r8152-cfgselector 4-1: reset SuperSpeed USB device number 4 using xhci_hcd kern.info: r8152 4-1:1.0 eth0: v1.12.13

Good product, quick delivery
Good product, it works on my new LG G5 TV. Unfortunately the quite expensive G5 TV doesn't have USB3.0. My max ISP is 1Gb/s but apparently by USB2.0 the speed won't get much higher than 300Mb/s. The current speed is fine but I don't understand why LG (and other brands aswell) don't supply these expensive TV's with a decent(not much more expensive) 1Gb/s LAN connection. Now you would say WiFi6e of which the LG G5 supports is enough. And yes my routers do support 6e they even do WiFi7. But it isn't in some cases. For example if you wanne stream 4K60fps HDR content, which you recorded with your smartphone, directly to the TV it doesn't work. The video will buffer all the time or the bit rate will be scaled down a lot. When you connect the TV to the onboard 100Mb/s LAN connection the TV is just able to handle it. But now with this adapter it goes even better. My guess is WiFi6e still ain't Full-Duplex and UTP is and that apparently makes a big difference.

Einfach einstecken. Vorher, über Fire Cube Ethernet 85-90MB. Jetzt: 260MB, volle Ausreizung meines Internets am USB2.0 Anschluss vom Fire Cube. Top!!
