There's an operator's learning curve with using this device at high magnifications in terms of bringing images into view and focus, but the technique is readily mastered and the images are suitable for my purposes, mainly to examine the sharpened edges on cutting tools like knives and woodworking chisels. In addition to the zoom feature (variable magnification), a valuable feature for me is the variable illumination intensity. This is because I have to examine highly reflective objects (shiny metal surfaces) that would be washed out by a high-intensity light source. In decent light, you can still see the image with available light alone. This is a nice little microscope. I use it with my phone and laptop. It is not a stand-alone microscope that you look through. It produces digital images that require either a phone or computer monitor. The software is easy to download and use.

There are reasons that microscopes work best with stands. You need a surgeon like steady hands otherwise it is very difficult to stay on target and focused. Especially if the object is moving or not very steady itself. You will need to refocus if you change zoom or distance from target. If you are holding the phone in one hand and the microscope in the other, it can be difficult to use the focus or buttons without moving the microscope and lose target and focus. As far as the image, the quality is amazing and it works great for my needs. This will be especially true if I can figure out a way to place my phone or a screen for the image to be shown on so that I do not have to hold in my hand. This would make it much easier to focus the microscope. For the price, it is really an excellent microscope. I believe you can buy a stand separate for it. I do wish it came with one. But over all I am very pleased. Maybe with practice focusing and zooming will be much smoother. But I do wish they buttons were more intuitively placed so that you can do all of the functions with one hand WHILE keeping the microscope on a proper XY axis so that when you move left, right, up or down that is how the image moves.

I've always wanted a digital microscope. Don't know why. It's just like any other tool one may have. You don't need it until you do. I've have other stools like that and I am always glad I have them when I need it. What will I use this digital microscope for? Well recently I used it to inspect a new kitchen countertop where I thought it had a dent. It didn't and now I know. I also fix stuff on occasion including items with printed circuit boards. This will prove very handy inspecting those connections. I do have a few rare coins that this microscope will help with. This may also help inspecting parts on my 54 year old 4WD vehicle. I just used this to inspect a valve core for scoring - worked great. Since It's highly mobile, I'm can use this almost anywhere. I found this digital microscope very easy to connect to with both my iPhone and my Android tablet. As for connecting to one of my PCs, first attempt failed but that was because I unknowingly used the wrong USB cable I had and not the USB cable that came with the microscope. Once I figured that out and used the supplied USB cable it connected easily with my PC. A bigger display is always better. All the microscope features work well depending on what one is connecting it to. The image is clear and easily viewed. The controls are well placed on the unit. The lens cap is a good feature to help keep the business end clean.

Pros - great for seeing super detailed work up close, this video is Ben Franklin's eye on a 100 dollar bill at 1000x. Build quality is good using quality hardware. Cons - video quality is not very good Note: when zoomed into 1000x, the nozzle is extended and with the clear cover completely removed (it pops off, not just the flat lid), it's possible to unscrew the lens from the body. This let me clean it out - my camera had a black blob on the lens when I first took it out of the box.

For the price, this is unbeatable. Produces images and movies at 3840x2160 resolution. Optical quality is only so-so, but better than expected. Very narrow depth-of-field (the range where things are in focus at a given focus setting), but this is normal and has nothing to do with the quality of the device. Doesn't have an adjustable optical zoom exactly, but has a wide range of focus. Usable from ~6" down to inside the clear bezel itself. To "zoom in", you move the microscope closer to the object... then adjust the focus. It does have a digital zoom, up to 2.0x, that only works with a cellphone connection and I didn’t find very useful. Included are three images and a movie clip. Two images are of a USA Nickel coin, one at the top of the stand's range (~5.5" from the coin) and the other with the clear bezel touching the base. The other image is a label on a cold bottle of soda, where the "5" is approx 4mm tall. The movie is of just moving the coin around on the stand. There is quite a bit of delay from when you make adjustments or movements and when they are seen on your display. It's too bad that it won't use WiFi for a PC connection. It requires a micro-USB cable connected to the PC, but will work with Window's built-in camera software. Kind of difficult to hold the device while taking pictures, almost need three hands. A stand would be very useful... and if you poke around on their support website, you may be able to snag a very nice little stand for the incredible price of free.

Don’t waste your money it takes terrible pictures. They are always, out of focus. Get a coin digital microscope that has the screen on it and it doesn’t go through your phone or your computer. It doesn’t matter what setting I put it on they look OK but when you try to zoom in, it’s completely out of focus.

Wanted a cheap microscope to authenticate TCG cards etc. Zoom & clarity is more than enough, although I highly doubt it's able to zoom 1000x 😁 Works as advertised with the IOS app. If using a Mac (photo booth, usb) zoom buttons do nothing, but I don't think it matters (those are just extra digital zoom?) The stand is alright but nothing spectacular. Can be used without it as well since it stands flat.
