The Original Lava® Lamp - 14.5" Aurora Borealis – Classic Liquid Motion Lamp - Purple Wax and Blue Liquid - Item #2047 (Amazon Exclusive)

When I was a kid (the 80's) my mother and grandmother would spend the day go to different yard sales on Saturday afternoon. Being a record and comic book collector I would tag along. I found an original lava lamp from the 60's and it was awesome. The original yellow liquid and red lava. I had that thing up until a friend of my knocked it off the table and broke the tank. I was heart broken. I've had at least three other lava lamps since then that never quite matched the quality. After a long period of use the lave will break down and stop working right. It would float to the top and stay there. You should never leave the lamp on for more that 10 hours and I always stuck to that. So I found this orignal lamp and it works just like the one that I found at the yard sale as a kid. Very happy with this purchase.

Updated Review: Very disappointed. The replacement lamp only lasted a day. The bulb didn't burn out, but something went wrong with the lava. Half pooled up at the bottom not moving, the other half is floating at the top and looks like a chunk of iceberg and also does not move. This is after one day of use. Unfortunately, I'm returning it for a refund and will look at products from someone other than "the original lava lamp company" for a lava lamp. I do not recommend this lava lamp, at any price. Original Review: I'm giving the 2nd "The Original Lava® Lamp - 14.5" Aurora Borealis – Classic Liquid Motion Lamp" I received 5 stars. It is everything I expected. For the price I paid the quality of the build and the materials is very good. Any changes to the materials I would suggest to make it heavier or make it one piece would certainly increase the price. The colors on the base and the cap are bright and vibrant and arrived with zero damage. The actual glass lamp part is very nice and very heavy. Crystal clear glass, no blemishes. The teal fluid is a vibrant teal and almost clear. The purple lava goo is a vibrant purple and appears to change between purple and blue as it moves. Movement with the included bulb is very nice and I really enjoy watching it. This is what I expected from an "original" lava lamp. I will buy more. I am looking forward to seeing the larger 16" version. I have to note that the 1st one I received was pretty much the exact opposite. While the colors on the base and cap were fine, there was clearly either damage or manufacturing defects. The 2nd one I received is near flawless. The teal fluid in the first one was a murky puke green. It was so murky you could only see the lava at the very top of the lamp, and it slowly disappeared as it sank to the bottom. The 1st one I received was NOT what I expected from the "original" lava lamp company. I'm glad I decided to try exchanging it for another one rather than giving up and requesting a refund.

Would buy again and again... HOWEVER, (BUYER BEWARE) it is overall much darker than expected. The liquid is more of a turquoise/aquamarine shade which can seem murky with the light off. The wax in mine is a lighter shade of purple than in the image. As the liquid in the lamp thins and flows it bubbles into shades of purple, pink and even some green down near the light. I honestly do love it and I feel (in my opinion) that the colors remind ME of the colors of the northern lights and not overly fake bright color. I actually sat on this review for several weeks before typing it out. Honestly, I was initially disappointed as it didn't "look" like the photo. Tried the whole clearing up process without achieving the "photo look". So I sat and watched it every night and actually realized that I appreciate it more for the color it IS and how closely (in my opinion) looks like the actual muted colors of the aurora.

I wrote up a very long detailed review which addressed pretty much every common issue that other reviews had, but Amazon rejected it. So here's the short version. I've got about 60 hours on this lamp and so far it works great. My glass is not damaged, the lamp doesn't appear to be used, the wax rises and falls properly, it hasn't exploded, etc. It just works perfectly and the color is gorgeous. The only problem I had is that the bulb that it shipped with only lasted 3 hours. Some people have recommended replacing it with a 35 or 40 watt bulb, but I would not recommend that. I replaced it with another 25 watt bulb and the wax cycles perfectly. I think a hotter bulb would just make the wax overheat and clump up at the top of the bottle. Either way, make sure you have some spare bulbs when you order this.

My first lava lamp came in! But it’s foggy and not clear like the picture showed. It does work really well, but you can blearily see it. I’ll update this review when the new lava lamp arrives. More things are, It looks really nice, and works how it’s supposed to. It’s fairly (Not exactly) priced when it comes to gifting to other people as long as it is not foggy. It’s really hot when it is on, but I would recommend being careful where you put it as it could fall and break. It works as a perfect night light because on how bright it is and simple (not too easy and not really hard) to find a comfortable place to put it. It’s really calm, comfortable and relaxing and I’m proud to say it would be one of the best things I got to spend with my Amazon gift card. (I’m using the one in the video as a night-light then I’ll return it tomorrow.)

I also got 1 that was cloudy like the reviews have said and also followed instructions to maybe get rid of said cloudiness. Didn't work at all so I did a return/exchange through Amazon and the second was perfect. The colors are simply amazing on the aurora version with purple wax and teal(not blue) liquid.

Buy the lava lamp. I have always wanted one growing up and purchased this for a gift and its so fun and well made .

This should not be sold in the UK - it is for the wrong voltage and has an American plug on it. Very annoying - I nwe have to go through all the palava of returning it.

It took awhile to reach where I am at (Japan). The liquid seems cloudy that I turned on the lamp and left it 3hrs and the bulb went dead. The replacement bulbs need to be imported that I have to wait for another several weeks to try. I hope once the new bulbs arrived, it will function as expected.

Foggy but lovely. Someone else had posted a review with their lamp and they mentioned the foggy appearance of the liquid that the wax floats in. Mine is the same, you cant see through to the other side, however I still really enjoy the lamp. The colour is gorgeous and I find such a difference between this one and a cheaper no name version I had. My lamp arrived in perfect condition and has been having daily use and very happy.

Got as a gift for my wife and it's been an absolute joy since we turned it on. I read from other reviews that the bulb it comes with gives up after a week of regular use so I went ahead and grabbed a new one before hand and it's been stellar. Really fun great glow, cool purple wax and she loves it!

It’s super cloudy and lava lamp won’t do anything for you if you buy through a third party. Choose another brand, this one is garbage.
