Superb drainage. Easy to use.
This is my second purchase of this bonsai soil. I do not actually use it for bonsai (as I haven't quite moved in yet to my residence) but I have added it to soils that were somewhat water-logged and planted a number of plants demanding or preferring well-drained soil. I find it is a wonderful 'additive' to other soils (I realize this is not why it was created) and well as a superb soil for cactus, succulents, and anything else that is very sensitive to over-watering (am I the only one who consistently does this?!). Not cheap (hence 4 stars on value) but a fine addition to all your gardening/planting needs. I know I'll be purchasing again, and in higher quantities when I'm ready to go back to growing specific bonsai. Highly recommend.

Drains really well.
I like the natural appearance of the product the fact that it drains really well and it was easy to exchange it for the old soil

Great Soil!!
3rd time purchasing this. I tend to add a bit more sand, soil or akadama to the mix, depending on the tree vs my climate, but this stuffdrains well as is... My trees do really well with this soil. Will be my go to going forward!

False advertising; mostly bark with a small amount of grit added
I typically buy Bonsai Jack (Jack’s Gritty Mix), but it was temporarily out of stock when I went to purchase another bag. Since the listing photos looked similar enough to Bonsai Jack, I decided to take a chance on this product even after reading some of the reviews, hoping I’d get lucky and receive a well mixed batch. Unfortunately, like some other buyers stated, my bag was also mostly bark—probably around 85% fine grain bark. At $20, this product is absolutely not worth the price lol. At best, there are some quality control issues happening behind the scenes. At worst, it’s just plain false advertising. Will be returning!

Great mix for most of general bonsai plants
I really like the mixture of this Soil. And the best part is the sizes it comes in. The price is very competitive but worth it in my estimate. My only wish is that the mixture be “SIFTED” before being packaged. I sift the mixture before I put it onto my trees, ands I am totally surprised by how much fine dirt is in the bag…

Mostly bark fines
This mix sounds like it has all the right ingredients for good bonsai soil - lava, pumice, akadama, and pine bark. In reality, it seems to be nearly half very fine pine bark which will break down quickly and retain too much water. It seemed like a good price but just contains too much of the cheapest ingredient. This mix is not suitable for most medium and large bonsai (unless mixed with some additional pumice or lava), since it will tend to stay too wet and lead to root rot. It looks like it might be ok for very small bonsai pots that dry out too fast in a normal bonsai mix. I used mine in some small pots with seedlings in development.
