Staedtler Mechanical Pencil 1.3 mm, Yellow Body (771)

Wow, this is a high quality pencil. With arthritic hands, i bought it because there are very few fat mechanical pencils, and this one fits comfortably in my hand. It is a great value. My only con about it is, that it takes 1.3 lead. This is a very thick lead. But, it is a carpenter pencil, not meant for writing but for marking wood, so it had a thick and dark line. Not a fault of the product, but my ignorance. Very good value, great quality, and i bought 3 pack refills, so i am definitely keeping it. This would make a great pencil for a preschooler learning how to write, easy for them to hold. Also the lead doesn't break like the thin leads do as easily. Refills are fairly inexpensive. The appearance is so cool, a yellow and black body with a funky red plunger and eraser area.

I have arthritis in my thumb and need a big grip. This pencil is perfect! Just the right width. I thought the shape was going to be a problem, but it hasn't been. The lead is dark and soft. It is a bit on the thick side, so no fine lines. I use a separate eraser, so I can't comment on that.

- Good all-around pencil for crafts & shop use (1.3mm lead is good for rough surfaces like wood and doesn’t break easily like a 0.7 or 0.9mm) - Not too big, not too small - clips nicely into a shirt pocket or apron and is easy to retrieve - large triangular grip makes it easy to pick up off a table and also prevents pencil from rolling away - bright yellow color makes it easy to spot from a distance My only gripe is that Pentel’s 1.3 mm leads (the ones that come with an AM13 “test marking” pencil) seem to write noticeably darker and smoother than Staedtler’s included lead. Note: the label with lead size/hardness is not included with either pencil, that’s just something I do to organize my own pencils and make it easier to find what I need.

I've been disappointed with how easily my .5mm leads break with my Alvin Draftmatic when I'm sketching big or bold. Wanted a thicker lead so that I could use 2B without having to deal with constant breaks. This pencil is a great compromise, with 1.3mm lead It weighs nothing - like a feather. Took a while to get used to, but I like it now. Feels great in the hand, nice and chonky, and I haven't had a lead break yet. 1.3mm is fat and sturdy, yet not so big you need to sharpen it. Big pencil, big lines. The tip retracts inside for protection. The eraser is refillable with the June Gold retractable 12 pack, just cut them in half. I don't usually like plasticky things, but this is the exception. Bought the mega pack of Bild 2B leads and I'm all set.

Easy to write with and comfortable in the hand. I really like the triangle grip.

I used this pencil for a couple of years but the outer casing ended up cracking. It is a nice pencil but I wish it was a little more rugged.

I’m on like, pencil 6 or something like that. Not because they break. Because my kids keep stealing them. Then they give them to their friends because they are so freaking awesome. I am naming this one George, and I will love him and keep him and pat him and pet him. And I will name him George.

Yes, this is the pencil I have been looking for. I wish I had it when I took drafting years ago. Now, it is the perfect tool for those back of the envelope designs I am famous for. All good engineering takes place between the brain and the paper, and this is the tool you need. Try teaching a student a new concept one on one, you will find you have to draw. Always have the right tool at hand, and this is it! However! If you look at the photos, after constant daily use small cracks form on the three corners, loosening the press fit. The grip pushes away from the barrel. Still going to use after a touch of super glue to cracks and an over wrap of 1” gorilla tape on barrel. Just lost one star as I really use this a lot. Daily crossword and soduku and it doesn’t rip the paper. I’ve become a sketching fiend since I got it- inspired by having the right tool. Use for my log entries and notes. Where the rubber grip is the two sections began to fall apart from too much spring tension when clicking to extend the lead. I went to my composites lab and added a touch of JB Weld at each corner and across the ribs. Let set an hour. No problems since! I used this pencil dozens of times a day. I get asked where I got such a neat pencil. Amazon Staedtler! You got your star back. Leave it in my jacket pocket at work, so I got another one for at home!

Having bought the Tracer pencil and left it behind on a job (but not disappointed that I had) I purchased this pencil. The two are complete opposites and this Staedtler pencil is perfect for my Trade use. Unlike the Tracer pencil, when you drop this, there is enough flexibility in its nature to protect the lead inside. I don't want to make this a review on the Tracer pencil, but if you're a trade and looking for a fine mechanical pencil, then this Staedtler pencil is the best option out there. It's light weight, holds well, doesn't endlessly give out broken pieces of lead and it won't roll off your work piece. Tracer is an over priced incredibly heavy, inefficient and underperforming gimmick, this pencil is just the job.

太さ、握りやすさ、軽さがマッチしていてこのシリーズを定番で使っている。 本体が金属製のシャープペンよりもぬくもり感があって漢字も書きやすい。本場ドイツでは子供用？の筆記具とされているようだが日本人には丁度いいサイズ感ではないだろうか。白、青、黄色と３色コレクションしている。
