JACO TreadPro Tire Tread Depth Gauge, Dial Type (Reads in 1/32")

I bought this JACO tread depth gauge specifically for my motorcycle, and it’s honestly one of the handiest little tools I’ve picked up. It’s super easy to use just press it into the tire and the dial gives you an instant, clear reading in 1/32. No guessing, no squinting. The color zones (green, yellow, red) make it really simple to see whether your tread is still good or getting close to replacement. For motorcycles where tire condition is everything, this gives me a lot more confidence before riding. The build quality feels solid, the dial is smooth, and the included carrying pouch is a nice bonus for keeping it protected in my backpack or tool kit. For the price, this thing is absolutely worth it. If you want a quick, accurate way to keep an eye on your tire health, especially for a motorcycle, this is a great pick. Highly recommend.

This is a quality depth gauge that I bought for a friend’s birthday after purchasing a Safelife digital depth gauge on Amazon for myself. Compared to the Safelife digital gauge on Amazon, it has a better weight/feel and build quality. The Safelife gauge has a bottom platform width of 2-3/8” which exceeds the Jaco by almost an inch meaning that for wide tire tread widths, the Jaco needs to be more centered properly over the tread to get a good reading. Other than this feature, the Jaco exceeds the Safelife in every other category. It has an easy to read analog dial with a resolution of 1/128”, and produces more repeatable readings. When I zeroed out the Safelife and then made a measurement then re-zeroed out the gauge it was almost always off by 0.02 mm, which isn’t the end of the world but just comments on the measurement reliability. The analog vs digital reading reminds me of modern car speedometers (digital/analog) and watches. For me, I prefer an analog reading over digital but that’s just me. Seems to me your brain can approximate an analog reading much faster over digital for a specific range and the Jaco is color coded for acceptable tread depths so you don’t need +/- 0.01 mm resolution to determine that your tread depth is within range.

I really like this guage. It seems well built and feels very solid in the hands. Accuracy seems to be spot on, and I like that it is very easy to read as well. I bought, and have used the cheaper ones, which work well, but more difficult to read. The large dial is very easy to read which I like. Also, due to the larger dial, it is much easier to see how close you are getting on treadwear and is a big plus over the small little ones. Handy little pouch as well to protect when sitting in a drawer or in tool case. I will say that it probalby wouldn't stand up well if dropped on the cement (due to glass cover), but not sure I'd trust any good guage if dropped! But it feels solid and is well built. Strongly recommended.

For the price, it’s a fantastic tool—but be warned: it’s not built to survive a drop. Before the drop? Flawless. The dial was easy to read, smooth in operation, and accurate. It gave consistent results and made checking tires fast and precise. No batteries to worry about, and it felt solid enough in the hand. We used it on everything from sedans to lifted trucks. After the drop? Not so great. Unfortunately, it slipped off the workbench and hit the garage floor. After that, the dial needle was permanently stuck about ¼ inch forward and wouldn’t return to zero. That threw off all the measurements and made it unreliable. There was no visible damage, but something internal shifted out of alignment. Lesson learned: this tool works great—but handle it gently. It's more of a precision measuring tool than a rugged shop item. If you can avoid dropping it or store it in a secure spot (maybe a small padded pouch or drawer), it’ll serve you well. Gives a more accurate reading than the traditional plunger style gauges. Only down side for me is that it doesn’t go deeper than 14/32. Other than that it works great. Can read the numbers pretty well.
