Mantis 5222 Power Tiller Dethatcher Attachment for Gardening

I baught a Mantis tiller years ago and I never used it much. My lawn has gotten overgrown with weeds and I've been trying to rejuvinate it so when this attachment went on sale I decided to go for it. It works great and is extremely satisfying to use. It takes some work and muscle but I find it satisfying. There were no instructions on how to bend the metal hood extenders, but I was likely overthinking it. Other than that, I did a test patch and it seemed to pull up a lot of thatch and I'm looking forward to doing the rest of my lawn so I can seed and fertilize this fall.

This is by far the coolest piece of yard equipment I own. This thing works awesome...I have a medium sized yard so took a little while to do but works way better than just a take. You don't have to pull it backwards either..I just walk forward with it slowly and works perfect...wish I would've got this long time ago

This dethatcher attachment works very well, just like in the video. My shields did not fit, but it was an easy fix. I just drilled a hole in each one and bolted them to my existing shield. The channels which hold on to the existing shield are too far apart, so I hooked onto the front one and bolted the rear area, near the edge of my existing shield. I contacted customer support, and they said they would look into it and get back to me, which they did. Said it should have worked with my old Mantis SV-4/A. Still plan on sending them a pic, but in the meantime, this dethatcher works very well. Worth the money; when I rented a power rake last year it costs a minimum of $80 for 4 hours. Will pay for itself by next year.

I dethatch my lawn every year and have always done so by hand with the dethatching rake. It was always a pain to do so. Then I realized that I have a Mantis tiller and could add the dethatching attachment. Instead of ordering the part directly from Mantis, I decided to see if I could find it cheaper on Amazon. I'm happy I found it. It makes it so much easier to dethatch my lawn. It does a great job of dethatching and loosening the soil in preparation for overseeding. It saved me tons of time and effort from doing it by hand. If you have a huge yard, it will take you quite a while to complete the job. But, if you were doing it by hand it would take you even longer. This works well for me.

Easy to assemble, works great but clogs up real bad and kind of hard to clean out.

Definitely a must buy accessory with the Mantis. Thing was able to pull out so much crab grass that I filled a 90 gallon yard waste bin! I had just mowed 2 days prior, and wanted to try it out. I had no idea that the crab grass was so heavily weaved into my lawn. This will definitely help turn my yard around. Just remember to stop if you hear the tiller bogging down. That’s a sign that the Dethatcher is clogged. And add on the axle guards, they make cleaning out the weeds and debris WAY EASIER!!!

This de-thatcher attachment for the Mantis tiller works way beyond my expectations! Very easy to install. I have a good size yard, and was worried about the time required to de-thatch it, but I was pleasantly surprised at the performance of the Tiller with the de-thatcher attached, didn't take much time at all. Cleans up as expected, its a tiller ok.

This is very solid and does a fantastic job of thatch cutting. My one and only criticism is that the additional plates you have to install for this require you to bend the metal in a semi circle for it to fit by bending it against the rounded frame. It’s not difficult to do but I would’ve wished it was already curved and secured in place by a bolt rather than just tension but it’s not difficult to do and the product is quality

Easy to attach and it works well, only problem is what to do with all the moss. Brilliant machine.

Does aeration to your lawn, and you can always do overseed while you at it

This unit does a great job. it pulls up all the dead grass without damage. You do have to overlap your rows as there is a gap in the middle. It is easier to pull the unit as you walk backwards. The left side is without overlapping; the right side was overlapped.
