Hitachi-LG GP60 External DVD Drive, Slim Portable DVD Burner/Writer/Player for Laptop, Windows and Mac OS Compatible, USB 2.0, 8x Read/Write Speed - Black

Purchased the drive to rip CD collection. I purchased a Mini USB to USBC data cable at the same time, the supplied cable is mini USB to USBA. Using an 2026 M5 MacBook Air, plugged the drive in and MacOS promoted to allow the drive, once authorised, it connected without issue. Despite a number of reviews I read stating that the USBC ports on the latest silicon Macs were not able to power external drives, in this case, that was incorrect Using XLD software I was ripping Flac files to a local NAS in under a minute. I can also highly recommend XLD for MacOS...it's straightforward to configure and is simple in operation. Suggest that if you are a first time user that you do some research on file structure config and rip settings etc. Great bit of open source software. I spent an inordinate amount of time ahead of purchase looking for a decent 'pro' level drive as I am wanting to digitise a substantial CD collection for the best quality archive and playback. Various AI LLM's kept pointing me back to this LG as the best balance between value and quality. I would have honestly paid more for a highly regarded device like those from Pioneer; these types of high quality drives were discontinued a long time ago - I would love to justify spending £1000+ on a used drive imported from Japan! Time will tell if the LG holds up to extensive use. The drive appears to be well built and has an acceptable (to me) level of noise in operation, it's pretty quiet considering what it does. I have given it five stars based on first impressions (my expectations were pretty low) of acceptable build quality and it's function.

The drive works fine and is fairly quiet. The cable is Mini USB to USB A which is an old standard and might affect how you manage cables. It is best kept flat on a desk to support the tray as the disk clips are quite tight and the tray feels quite flimsy

Use this to rip all my old CDs, works great and the read speed was good for my needs. Been using it for a while now and not had any issues. Not all that quiet, but doesn't need to be in my opinion. Easy plug and play on Windows 11.

Good price, good quality and does exactly what you expect it to do easily and quickly.

This is a great bit of kit. It comes with some software, but you don't need it. I just plugged it into a USB port on the PC, it recognised it straight away, and it works perfectly. The construction seems to be fairly robust. The drawer is as delicate as the one on our main PC, so needs the same amount of care when using it. It came well packaged, with everything you need in the box. I read a few reviews of other devices at a cheaper price, but I'm pleased I forked out the extra few quid to get this. It's got the HItachi brand on it, so that's a quality indicator. I've played and ripped CD's and DVD's with it so far. I haven't tried connecting it to the TV so can't vouch for that operation. The play/read operation is as fast, if not faster than our main PC. On the whole I'm really pleased with it, and on that basis would have no problem in recommending it.

I bought this when the built in blu ray on my laptop wore out from all my ripping. I needed a spare drive to carry on and this seemed perfect. Reputable companies, low price and good reviews. Product arrived - rather dubious packaging and no mention of the brands behind it. Easy install, just plug and play. All my CDs ripped just fine except for maybe the last one or two tracks that would skip. At first I put that down to them being over 35 years' old. But it was happening to new ones too with no visible blemishes on the surface. I bought a backup from another brand which copes much better. A 4K blu ray writer. I figured if anything will cope with an audio CD it'll be a Pioneer. Pros: value, portability, uses USB 2 Cons: prone to skipping Verdict: 3 stars might seem harsh but the intended purpose of this device is not always being met. You may want to look elsewhere.

Mooie externe cd brander. Werkt goed

Muy contento con esta unidad externa. Es bastante fina y ligera, por lo que se puede guardar fácilmente cuando no se está utilizando y llevarla de un sitio a otro sin ocupar apenas espacio. La conexión es sencilla y resulta muy cómoda para leer o grabar CD y DVD cuando el ordenador no tiene lector integrado. Además, el diseño es discreto y queda bien junto al portátil. Una opción muy práctica para tener un lector externo sin complicarse.

Not much to say – it arrived quickly and works flawlessly with Windows 11. It does everything it’s supposed to, isn’t particularly noisy, and I’m happy with my purchase. I chose it for the brand; we’ll see how long it lasts over time.

Does what it should, a bit fiddly to open and insert/extract DVD but it is compact so not surprising.

som jag skrev i rubriken men jag förstår inte varför. Jag försökte ansluta den till TV:n och det fungerar inte. endast med pc/mac. designen är sober som jag gillar den. det är väldigt lätt.
