Perfect starter deck
Like many other league battle decks this is a perfect starting point for anyone to get into playing the TCG itself. It holds up well against other pre-made decks, but may not be a world breaker and need a few changes to win some local tournaments. Perfect to play with your friends.

Great, but you need to know what you are buying. If not then read on.
This is for folks buying these packs as presents for folk who are playing the card game, for which you need 60 cards. If just collecting the cards then be prepared to find duplicates, because that’s what you need if playing, which is what these are aimed for. I have recently got into Pokémon the card game ( aka Pokémon TCG) as a result of all my grandchildren getting into it. It’s taken me a while to make sense of it all as there are SO Many cards out there. Basically Pokémon has an overarching theme ( previously it was Sword and Shield, currently it’s Scarlet and Violet) which lasts for about roughly 2 years. Under that theme they introduce several mini themed packs, such as the first, Scarlet and Violet 1, also Paldea Evolved, Obsidian Flame, and the current, Paradox Rift, in it. Each year they also rotate some previous packs out, which is important if you are intend to play competitively, and not at all important otherwise. However you can only use the cards on the current list if you play at any official events. You can find the list on line ( try Justin Basil’s site first). Pokemon make this easier by putting a letter code in the bottom left corner. It’s F atm, but they will rotate out soon. The most recent cards also have a letter code on, eg SV1, whereas the older sets have a symbol for each set, in the left bottom corner. As a result in each of the mini sets, the serious players pounce on the most effective cards in the game. They will buy the big trainer sets, pull out the cards they want, and sell the rest on. That’s why you will see comments about ‘no great cards in the set’. However for most of us, this is not relevant. I bought this set to play with my grandkids, and it’s great for that. There are some earlier cards included that have rotated out. That’s fine - I’d replace them with better ones anyway if playing competitively (I wish!). The main featured cards in the set are great, there are several of each ( which you need if you play the game,as because you start with only 7 cards, the rest will end up in the deck pile or as one of the 6 random prize cards you stack to play for). It’s a great set for someone who has learnt the basics and now developing their own deck. Pokémon recognise this and have identified it as a level 3 pack. If just starting out then the brilliant Pokémon Academy ( also on Amazon) is a great starter, and how I learnt TCG. Also the ‘my first Pokémon Game’ is a really simple introduction for little kids who can’t concentrate much ( but the cards for that one aren’t interchangeable with the game as it’s a stand alone product). Again Amazon sells it, and my 5 year old grandson loves it, whereas it’s too minimalist for my 5 year old granddaughter, who prefers the full game. If they’ve got the game basics, then the single - and cheaper - battle boxes are the next step. They will have one Pokémon ball on the front left cover of the box. They will give a full pack of 60 cards, and will need significant upgrades to bring them up to event standards - but are great otherwise. (I’ve bought 6 so far). However the main cards in them - like Mewtwo, or Chien-Pao, or Lucario Ex, are all promo versions, and only available from this sets, so again you find collectors buy them, remove that card, and then sell the rest of the sets on, ( so make sure the recipients don’t swap those cards - they sell for almost the cost of the pack!). They are all great - as long as folks understand what they are buying. I hope this helps. I’ve bought all of mine from Amazon and they’ve all been great.m
