It is a solidly made towel holder. The marble is dark charcoal with while veins (appearance may vary). The base is beveled. The unit is heavy enough so that one can tear off a towel with one hand without holding the unit in place with the other hand. The main reason I bought this unit instead of its cheaper imitations is that its stem consists of a single piece marble; the cheaper versions have a threaded connection in the middle of the stem. I could never keep that extra connection from unscrewing even with the use of TreadLock. If you put the paper towel roll wrong way in the cheaper towel holder the stem will be in two pieces after a dozen paper towels. To me quality is worth extra $10.

This is absolutely beautiful and a nice, heavy weight that does not get pulled over when you go to tear a towel off of it. Best of all it ships in two pieces. The last one I had ordered from another source came assembled and it broke at the base during shipping. This one arrived in pristine condition. Super easy to assemble with a screw driver. The black marble is stunning and very classy. Highly recommend.

The marble is a pretty color and polished to a beautiful shiny finish. BUT...the construction is poor. The post was chipped where it attaches to the base. There were lots of tiny shards and dust in the packaging even though it was in several layers of bubble wrap. The post was quite crooked. I considered sending it back but it was a pain to re-wrap. So I unscrewed the post and fashioned a little gasket that I cut out of one of those rubber jar gripper things. I cut two more tiny pieces and built the gasket up to three layers under the chipped edge of the post. Fortunately the screw was long enough to go through all that. That helped a lot and the thing is perfectly servicable now. The fix only took ten minutes and it was easier than sending it back.
