A tiny flint core disguised to look like a full sized one
I've previously purchased both cheap tiny matchstick-thin flints fand more expensive pencil thickness ones - the latter last much longer and work better. This device is cunningly prepared to look like a high quality pencil thickness one, but is actually a sub-matchstick sized flint encased in a fat covering of inert metal. It works in so far as it goes, but this is a cheap trick!

A Fire Steel it us NOT!!!
The media could not be loaded. I bought 6 of these "Fire Steels" for a fire lighting class with a school group next week... They arrived yesterday, should I say 5 arrived.. The 6th has yet to make an appearance, I took one out of the packaging this morning to test it.. Low & behold, they don't work.. Lots of metal scraping off but ZERO sparks!!This is a first for me.. Never bought a Ferro Rod that didn't atleast have some sparks.I tried this one with the crappy scraper provided and I also tried it with the 90° spine on my Carbon Steel Mora... Failed completely to get sparks... Cheap and nasty lump if metal... Do not buy unless you want to waste your money that is!!!!

Always wanted one - not sure why, it's a man thing!
Haven't had opportunity to use yet. Tried it and it does spark, just hope I remember to take it when I need it (bet I don't). Now in my toolkit waiting it's first use.

Not fit for purpose
Awful product. Plastic end comes of easily. Metal striker is useless.

Waste money don't buy. Don't work
Waste of money try 4 different strikers on this and would not make any sparks dose not work at all. Cheap item.
