Working well
This is a straightforward plug and play unmanaged switch, you just plug everything in, power it up and it sorts everything out for you. These are something of a comodity item really and I'd expect any comparable item to work much the same in terms of speed, but I went with this one because I trust the brand and have better expectations for its lifespan/build quality than something from a company I've never heard of, and from a safety angle I feel more comfortable having something from a brand I trust plugged in to the mains power 24/7. It's compact and I wall mounted it easily. There's no fan or moving parts so it's silent and shouldn't accumulate dust inside it - but I did mount it sideways so dust won't settle inside the ports. One of the nice things about Netgear switches is their bright LEDs on each port, one to tell you whatever is plugged in has a network connection, and another to indicate if it's a gigabit speed connection. Not much on our home network runs at a gigabit yet - many things don't need to anyway, but I'm sure in time we'll be using more and more gigabit speed devices.

Simplicity itself
I run a small network of about a dozen machines that need to connect to the internet, a central server and a few printers. I'm not after cutting-edge speeds and performance, I just need to plug and go. With the GS116, that's exactly what you get. Plug it into the mains, plug the ethernet cables in and watch the lights go on, your network establish itself and you don't have to do anything else. (The ethernet cable to the internet router goes in one socket (I use socket 1 for this so I know which it is) and the computers and printers go in the others and everything just works.) You'll forget about the switch as it sits in the corner doing it's job, and it doesn't make much noise as it gets on with things. I've used Netgear products before and this is another fine example of a cheap, solid product that does exactly what it says on the box - no fuss, no mess, no problems. If you're in the market for a reasonably quiet, reliable switch, then try the GS116.

Doesnt enable furter wireless router on its exits.
I have a talk talk wireless router which I use it as a modem only, its wi-fi is disconnected. I attached netgear lan router and on one of those 16 exits. I used one of those netgear slots connected to a wireless router and didnt work. Well I have a tplikn lan router and it worked with that one. So guys, be careful on how you want to use your lan, works fine as an extention from a wireless router, unfortunately can not be used further to enable another wireless one.

Great product easy to used. No configuration required
Good quality, still working well on a home network system. Un-managed so just plug it in and off you go.

Works straight out the box
Very easy to set up and start using. Despite splitting incoming signal 16 ways all our attachments seem to receive a good strong signal. Very happy with this product

OK
Good little basic edge router from a reasonably trustworthy brand (as opposed to some very dodgy brands around these days). Disappointing that there aren't enough smarts in this to even do port mirroring, and disappointing that there are no higher-speed 10GbE (at least) uplinks, since the total capacity of the ports means that the uplinks provided just don't cut it, BUT when mostly switching between 1GbE ports rather than distributing an uplink, it's a good little unit. Price is pushing expensive for such basic functionality though, these days.

Very good Switch
I purchased this for one of my customers who had just had some new offices built for a car showroom. Light network usage so can’t comment on the how it operates under load but I’ve had no negative feedback and it was installed over 6 months ago. Overall I was happy with the switch; nice metal casing and quiet operation. Be aware that this switch is not rack mountable. I’ve recently written another review for a switch that I purchased for myself and gave a few (hopefully) helpful tips to any potential buyers who aren’t clued up on switch technology. I’ll paste the same below and hopefully someone will find it useful: Opt for an unmanaged switch - 99% of home users do not need a managed switch. If you don’t know what one is, then you don’t need it. However many ports you think you need, get more. If you are going to use 4 ports, get an 8 port switch. You are not only future proofing your network, also remember you will use one port for connecting the switch to your router. Opt for the gigabit switch over 100mb, you may not need it currently if you don’t have gb devices, but you are future proofing your home network. Also, gigabit gives significant speed increases when utilised.

Ich habe mein ganzes Haus damit verbunden, es gibt bei Zuleitungen von 80m keine größeren Datenverluste. Diesen Switch würde ich wieder kaufen.

Produkt macht, was es soll. Allerdings hatte ich erwartet, dass ein deutsches Netzteil dabei sein würde. Stattdessen habe ich ein britisches Model geliefert bekommen. Achtet bittet genau drauf.
