Bristol's Massive Attack released a classic with their first album, Blue Lines , but only those who were paying careful attention noticed for a while; then, after everybody caught on, they were overshadowed by the likes of colleagues Portishead, who were cooler. But not so after the release of Protection , which sported a massive hit and was just as critically acclaimed as their first album. (The hit was the title track, for which Everything but the Girl's Tracy Thorn lent her divine pipes--a move that presaged EBTG's move to the dance floor.) Eschewing the showmanship of their scene mates, Massive prefer subtler soundscapes and using a diverse range of vocalists (including Horace Andy, Nicolette, and Tricky) who give them a number of flavours and moods with which to work. Protection is an understated album with a rich palette; it reveals more of itself on repeated listens, growing better--and deeper--each time. --Randy Silver Brani1.Protection2.Karmacoma3.Three4.Weather Storm5.Spying Glass6.Better Things7.Euro Child8.Sly9.Heat Miser10.Light My Fire (Live) Review: Massive attack, absolute class! - Absolute classic! Bargain quality by one of the best groups of the 90s
Cheap and cheerful but doesn’t sacrifice on the sound quality.

Two songs are perfect.
The two tracks Everything But The Girl are involved in, tracks #1 and #6, are more than worth the purchase of this album. Just a couple of those rare 'perfect' songs. The rest of this cd is pretty good, some nice rhythmic beats mad mixes there. As soon as the "rappers" resurface on tracks this cd turns ridiculous. You protest out loud to no one in the room, "How can this terrible song be on the same cd as those few perfect gems?" I have no idea what the last track was trying to accomplish, some live performance of 'Come on baby light my fire'' or similar. It's gut wrenching awful. Highly recommend this cd, some good things in here.

Vinyl Vs CD
The quality of the music is well documented, but on vinyl?? Mmm jury is out for me, this came out at a time when vinyl was pretty much done for albums. I've got the original CD and in comparison this is just a little bit brighter, but lacks the authority of the CD, the stereo imaging is slightly better on vinyl but the CD is cleaner overall. The vinyl also suffers from some hot sibilants, that really should have been de-essed for the vinyl master. Great album but don't worry if you just buy the CD, the vinyl is nothing special.

Five stars recommend.
This is fantastic, great music & good sound quality (barring sibilance on so tracks but, this is true of both the vinyl & the CD so, must be evident on the master tapes!). This is perfect for anyone who's the thinking of getting into this band. Recommended five stars.

Must have.
Uno dei migliori album dei Massive Attack senza ombra di dubbio. Da avere assolutamente anche in vinile magari da ascoltare davanti a un bel calice di vino.
