Keeps the group head shower screen and gasket nice and clean!
Cleaning: I wish I'd bought this sooner - it's nice to not have to wipe down the shower screen and brush out stray grinds from around the gasket (which could lead to leaks around the outside of the portafilter, and a loss of pressure / flow through the puck). That problem is now completely solved by this very well designed puck screen. Channelling: Don't expect miracles here - as far as I can see, it doesn't do much, if anything, to reduce the likelihood or degree of channelling. I think paper screens placed at the bottom of the portafilter help better with that. It does not appear to cause any additional channelling, or cause water to be forced around the outer edges of the puck screen. I use a DeLonghi Dedica, which does produce a little too much pressure at the head, so completely avoiding any channelling is a challenge. If your espresso machine has a more ideal pressure profile, then you might get different results. Convenience: The main thing about this is that it doesn't impact my workflow - it takes a second to drop it on top of the puck and retrieve after use. A quick run under the tap is enough to clean it between shots. If it was a hassle, it would cancel out the benefit of not having to clean the shower screen and gasket between shots, but it's a time saver overall. Fit: It fits just right and I can dose as much espresso in the basket, so there's no issue there. It's super thin and light, but feels like it's engineered to last. Alternatives: Paper screens above and below the puck do address channelling and keep the shower head and gasket clean, but they are fiddly and not reusable. I prefer to use this mesh puck screen instead to address the mess, and just rely on a very good grind and good puck preparation to reduce channelling. Taste: I didn't notice any impact on the crema, taste or mouthfeel. Overall, highly recommended.

For my Gaggia classic
Works great with my gaggia classic. I believe you can get these with a hole in the middle which would have been better but overall great quality.

Easy win for minimal outlay - and more balanced cup
I’ve been making home espresso since 1998. Current machine is 2017 Rocket Giotto HX, Timemore Sculptor 78mm for caffeinated and Rocket Fausto 65mm for decaf. Previously I’d run a couple of blind filter flushes after each shot and remove quite a bit of coffee. This adds +20s to your routine (but prevents a gunky machine in the long term). Switching to this puck screen 3 things have happened: 1- Machine is clean post shot as you’d hope, no need to flush through 2- I use approx 0.7g less coffee for the same 30g/30s pull. I can’t measure TDS but it feels like the same extraction . The puck volume itself will account for some of that dose difference but also the I think more coffee is staying in the portafilter during the shot rather than being pushed upwards to the brew head under pressure. That coffee would be wasted during extraction. Now it’s stays in the path of the water. 3- I use a light medium roast. Subjectively, the cup is slightly more balanced. Obviously I’ve adjusted the dose as per above but I’m getting slightly less acidity, a little more sweetness and complexity and a little less aftertaste. I like a good deal of acidity and that’s still there but I’m enjoying more of what follows now. My only concern is that the puck will eventually delaminate with the heat cycles. But for £12 that’s no deal breaker. .

Pushes all the water to the edge (UPDATED with fix)
I am actually really disappointed in this product, especially for its price tag. The water actually doesn't even pass through the mesh because it is way too fine, and it goes all the way to the perimeter of the portafilter, where there is a tiny gap. How do I know this? My espresso was extremely slow and inconsistent, and every time I noticed a much darker ring of wet, ground coffee when I knocked out the used coffee puck. Meaning the water was pushed to the side, barely touching the central area. Its great in terms of keeping the machines' shower screen, but I think I will be trying a different brand with a less dense screen. UPDATE: So as per the review, the statement was true when used with the stock shower screen of the Sage/Breville Barista Express. I recently ordered a new shower screen (IMS Precision Shower Screen) for the machine, and it no longer has the issue it had before. The water distribution was now perfect, and I didn't see the visible ring at the edge as before.

Easier to clean than similar items
This does the job perfectly and gets 5 stars because it proved to be easier to clean than similar items from other brands.

Good product
Nice, thin, fits well still gets the occasional ground through but nothing to cry about. Helps keep the coffee machine clean so grounds don't end up in the machine.

Sturdy and very thin - perfect
Most puck screens are the 1-2mm thick woven steel wire type. These however are much thinner and use an embedded mesh. They take up much less space in the group which is great for my specific machine because the normal shower screen has a protruding screw which takes up a good 3mm of height in the basket. So with the other filters they end up getting distorted with a screw imprint. This one however allows me to use it properly and doesn't get damaged Really nice, great for keeping the group head clean

Quality product
Works efficiently to ensure the coffee distributes evenly. High quality product at a fair price.

Works great! I like that’s it’s thicker than the very thin puck, but not too thick which forces me to use less grounds. Cleans well, grounds rinse right off. Water seems to flow right though, of course this is dependent upon grinds. Great puck! Video attached showing the pull.

I use this puck screen for my 54mm portafilter at my Sage Barista Pro. So far I'm very satisfied. Be careful of your fingers when washing. Edges are sharp like razor!
