Essential
A must in my opinion for any aquarium enthusiast with a planted tank. This provides some necessary nutrition for water borne plants and helps with healthy growth. Since using my plants have been flourishing and lots of healthy growth which means happy fish. Lasts quite a while for me as only have a small tank. As the plants flourish they compete with algae for nutrients and then causes algae to decline.

You need to understand what it is and how it works...
I know lots of people rave about this stuff and others hate it, and obviously I can only speak from my own personal experience (and I don't for a second claim to be any kind of expert!), but I have been using this in my low tech, low light setup for over a year now and have seen good results. The main thing to know and understand about this product is that this is NOT liquid CO2! It gets called liquid CO2 all the time, but that's more of a casual term rather than an accurate description. (Liquid CO2 only exists at very high pressures which obviously can't exist in a soft plastic bottle) What this actually IS, is quite a potent and potentially very harmful chemical (if not dosed properly) which over the course of about 24 hours in your tank, goes through a molecular change to 'become' carbon that your plants can then utilise for further growth. (I can't pretend to know or understand the whole science involved, but there are some very informative videos on YouTube explaining this process in detail 🤓). Because its only safe to dose this in relatively small amounts it means that you're going to be limited to the amount of carbon you're going to be able to add to your system over any given period. Therefore, I've found its only really helpful when you're trying to grown relatively easy, low CO2 demanding plants rather than anything that requires high levels of CO2 (like a lot of carpeting plants for example). If that's what you want, you're gonna need to look at the high tech approach... Coupled with low lights, I've found that I'm getting good healthy slow growth of plants like anubias, amazon swords, jungle val, and bacopa. Also (with dosing it sensibly), I've not had any problems with it effecting my shrimp or snails 👍 Also, over time, this chemical acts as a very effective anti-algae additive- some people use it just for that- but that is OVER TIME! Don't over dose your tank on it trying to get rid of the stuff! (Or you'll kill everything! Not just the algae... 😵🤣) Anyway, hope this helps! ✌

Not a miracle worker, but certainly helps with BBA
If you pair this product with weekly 50% water changes and a reduction in lighting, your plants will thank you. Saw good results in BBA reduction, going grey and dying within the first week. Stubborn, well established BBA is still there but greatly reduced. Rooted and epiphyte plants grew significantly as well even with lower light. Overall, great product to deal with a tank that has been neglected for a few weeks and needs a ‘reset’ but wouldn’t recommend as a constant addition due to the chemicals within the product being not great for aquatic life for a prolonged amount of time.

Seachem Fluorish Excel - not convinced as yet.
Item arrived promptly, but the protective seal didn't appear to be intact. The bottle hadn't leaked, but so far I have had zero success with the product itself. Maybe I should have returned the item, but it was desperately needed and based on advice I thought I would give it a go. That said Seachem claim that the contents do not expire and refrigeration is not required. However that's provided it has been stored correctly! No real difference after a few doses, but I'll update if I experience visible success. Maybe I was expecting too much.

This stuff is amazing. I had a nasty case of black beard algae all over my live plants and decor. The aquarium contains a betta, a few corydoras, several tetras, a couple mystery snails, a couple nerite snails and a bunch of neo shrimp. If you've ever had black beard algae you understand just how quickly this stuff can spread and take over your aquarium. I started using Flourish Excel along with an iron/potassium supplement and the black beard algae is almost gone after just a couple weeks. Amazing! And best of all it didn't kill or harm any of the creatures or plants in my tank, in fact, the plants look healthier, the water smells cleaner and the shrimp seem happier and more active than ever before while keeping my plants and substrate clean.
