Can you fit an "average" mug under or does it have to be a cappuccino/espresso size cup?

I've just measured it for you... The mug/ cup needs to be less 10 cm high or less. There is a hight adjuster for any smaller cups. Hope this helps

The desc states 'You can make an Americano at the touch of a button', but the table has no tick for Americano. How do you make Americano with it?

An Americano is espresso with hot water added (though I prefer to add espresso to hot water so you get a bit of crema on top; this is sometimes called a flat black). In any case, don't do as others here have suggested and crank up the the coffee quantity knob B8. This will lengthen the brew time and fill your cup with yellowish, bitter liquid. Instead, get it making a good double espresso by setting the grind nice and fine, the dose to about 18g of coffee (with strength knob B9), and the quantity to 60ml for double espresso. The amount of time water is flowing should be about 18-25 seconds. If it is too quick, make the grind finer or turn up the dose with the strength knob. Once you have good espresso, just use the hot water dispenser to turn it into americano.

Is the Body or Casing stainless steel or aluminum mold or is it plastic ?? Thanks.

This is made up of mainly very rigid plastic.  We have had ours for over 3 1/2 years and there is not show of wear and tear on the coffee maker.

People are saying you can modify the temperature of the coffee, anyone care to elaborate on how you do this? TIA

There is a way to increase the temperature, which for some reason isn't mentioned in the manual: With the machine in standby/off mode, press and hold the One cup button until the row of lights come on below. You should see the default of 2 lights is showing. Now press the two cup button repeatedly to select your desired setting out of a possible 4 settings. When set, press the 1 cup button again to save your setting, and the machine will go back to off.
