Itโs very early days but every seed has sprouted
Iโve been very unlucky with various sunflower seeds. Some germinate and produce seedlings and lots donโt I finally ordered these sunflower seeds as a last resort and every seed Iโve planted has already (after just a few days) sprouted into little seedlings. Iโm well impressed Iโve planted them outdoors in large pots but can already tell that Iโm going to have to thin them out as they have already grown into little seedlings Iโve no idea yet whether they will continue to grow into proper sunflowers but itโs looking good so far Totally recommend these sunflower seeds UPDATE: One of my sunflowers is now about 9โ tall and has grown a nice looking flower head. The flower isnโt full size yet and hasnโt opened but itโs beginning to. Unbelievable that this huge plant grew from a tiny seed so quickly! UPDATE 2: The flower is now fully open and growing bigger every day! Itโs gorgeous!!

My Quest for Neighbourhood Sun Dominance (Spoiler: The Squirrels Probably Enjoyed Them More)
Right, let's talk about these "Mongolian Giant" sunflower seeds. The name itself is dripping with promise, isn't it? Conjures images of towering botanical titans, looming over the fence, possibly requiring planning permission and frightening low-flying aircraft. I clicked 'Buy Now' faster than you can say "inadequate trellis," dreaming of horticultural glory. Visions danced in my head: neighbours shielding their eyes from the sheer reflected glory, small children pointing in awe, maybe even a feature in Gardeners' World (the slightly unhinged, ambitious amateur section). The Arrival & Planting Ritual: The seeds arrived in a packet. A standard seed packet. Honestly, a bit underwhelming. I was half expecting them to be individually wrapped in velvet, maybe humming slightly with potential energy. Nope. Just seeds. Looking suspiciously like... sunflower seeds. Who knew? Planting was undertaken with the kind of solemn ceremony usually reserved for launching a ship or burying state secrets. I whispered encouragement ("Come on my little giants, reach for the sky! Make Brenda next door jealous!"). I gave them the sunniest spot, the fanciest compost I had leftover from that optimistic tomato experiment last year. I watered diligently. I may have even constructed a tiny, slightly wonky fence around the patch to deter... well, I wasn't sure what, but giants probably need protection, right? The Great Wait & The Mildly Impressive Reality: And then, the waiting. Monitoring the soil with the intensity of a Cold War spy. Every twitch of a weed was scrutinised. Finally, sprouts! Green things! Life! Did they grow? Yes. Were they sunflowers? Absolutely. Were they "Mongolian Giants"? Well... let's manage expectations here. They were... tall-ish. Definitely taller than me, which isn't saying much, but still. They were respectable. Sturdy. Produced some quite decent-sized flower heads, full of potential bird (and squirrel) snacks. But were they the colossal, sky-scraping behemoths the name implied? Did they blot out the sun? Did they require scaffolding for dead-heading? No. They were, perhaps, "Slightly Taller Than Average And Quite Nice Sunflowers from an Unknown, Possibly Mongolian, Origin." It just doesn't have the same ring to it. One did get impressively big-headed (the flower, not me... mostly), attracting the local squirrel squadron like it was emitting some kind of high-frequency nut signal. They staged a heist worthy of Ocean's Eleven, leaving behind a decapitated stalk and a scattering of shell fragments as mocking evidence. Thanks, lads. The Verdict: Look, if you want sunflowers, these will likely give you sunflowers. They're perfectly nice. They might even get reasonably tall if you bribe the squirrels and promise them your firstborn. But if you're expecting something that will genuinely make passing pilots say "Blimey, what's that?", you might need to temper your gigantic ambitions.

No the largest I have grown
Maybe because I had grown Subflowers in a similar part of my garden before. These were no where near the largest I had grown and the heads drooped badly.

Amazingly Huge - plan ahead! :)
this years batch grew flower heads the size of dinner plates. The picture needs some context - my fence is 6foot, then there's a trellis on top of the fence that brings it up to 8foot, and these plants are growing taller than that trellis. Make sure you have either a lot of space for the plant to spread its roots or you have a few support poles - the plant will rip itself out the ground in high winds due to being top-heavy if it doesn't have the space to root (or the support structure if there's no rootspace). I germinated these in tiny biodegradable pots for about a week or so until they sprouted, then planted the pots directly in the ground. Left the pots on a windowsill and spritzed daily to ensure the soil remained moist (but not wet, otherwise they get mould). Only one seedling did not germinate out of 20. Sunflowers will suck up nutrients and water around it so don't put any plants around its base that are delicate. Its possible for these to grow multiple flowerheads on the same giant flower, depending on its genetics and how much and what type of nutrients you give it - sometimes it will happen naturally. I didn't even use all the seeds as these things get so big you run out of space hahaha, so the value for money is exceptional.
