How often does this product need replacing

Does not near to be replaced just turn the taps to stop water flow, unscrew the top and clean out the magnet. It's a dirty job and i tend to use old newspaper to clean the magnet old sludge. This should be done one a year, or more often when first fitted. Don't forget to turn the taps back on prior to firing up the boiler.

Where can i buy a spanner from to open the magna clean? mine is musding

That's bad it didn't come with one! You could try a local plumbers merchant alternatively I can only suggest you contact Magna clean direct. Last resort is returning your item and asking for a replacement.

Is there a specific direction of flow? Can the return enter at the top and exit at the bottom?

No there is no direction of flow the return can enter either the top or the bottom inlet. There are 2 louvers inside the unit which collects non metallic debris they need to be turned around depending on which inlet you use as your flow.

Can this be used for an LPG boiler?

The magnaclean basically removes solids and metal particles suspend in the water which travels around the heating system. The hot water cylinder coil and the radiators and asassociated pipes work. So your LPG boiler is basically the same as a standard gas boiler, only difference being the fuel type. In my opinion you should have no issues with using this on a LPG boiler, I've not tried it but can't see any problems.
