Academy AwardÂź winners TOM HANKS and JULIA ROBERTS come together as the perfect romantic comedy match with a heartwarming story about how itâs never too late to reinvent yourself. When he suddenly finds himself without his long-standing job, Larry Crowne (Hanks) enrolls at his local college to start over. There, he becomes part of an eclectic community of students and develops a crush on his teacher (Roberts). Now this simple guy will discover that when you think everything worth having has passed you by, you just might rediscover life and love. Special Features: Interview with Tom HanksThe Making of Larry CrowneDeleted ScenesFun On the Set Review: Light-hearted, lovely movie to make you smile - I really loved this film. Not because I think it should win an Oscar or that it is one of the best films I have ever seen. Not because it goes to the guts of the subject matter it tackles behind the romantic veneer. But because Tom Hanks reminded me that you can make a movie where no one swears, no one bleeds, where there are no extreme and still be interesting. That sometimes love is simple and in the kiss as Cher says. I also think he brought together quite the ensemble of great actors (including his wife) in the cast although Taraji P. felt a little underused. I love that there was so much diversity, but in an organic way rather than forced or token. I love that a University class was presented as fun and I love that the main and immediately supporting characters were so well developed. I really enjoyed watching this unpretentious, simply light-hearted, lovely movie to make you smile. Review: A great movie... - This is fast becoming one of my all time favourite movies... Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts although an unlikely comedy partnership are both terrific and are a delight to watch.... The movie is full of warm humour and is a great cosy evening couch movie.. Not overly slushy and a great storyline... Everyone is bound to enjoy this one

A gentle romantic comedy with plenty of warmth.
This film is a pleasant, romantic film that managed to get exactly the correct cast together and demonstrate why they are regarded well by film watchers. The only part that was slightly fragrant of "fromage" was the end credits and the montage (which I won't ruin for you here). Up-beat, lively and some very clever interplay between the characters, special mention to George Takei who managed to make a sparse bit-part delightful. It's one of those films that you can let wash over you and it certainly won't poke your conscience although it does make a point about the global lending mistakes of the late 1990's. It's not a cerebral plot, but enjoyable just the same.

It's Kind Of Nearly There
I can understand what Tom Hanks was trying to do with this film. He saw that he could hook into lots of employment disruption after the bank crisis and this nearly does it - in a very funny way. It's a feel good buddy movie and quite harmless. The complete opposite to the same subject film, The Company Men, which is dark and truly realistic. I know because in my life I was made redundant 6 times - its not the fun Tom Hanks has and I didn't face setback in the light hearted way he does. The real feelings and situations are seen in The Company Men. One film can make me cry, one makes me laugh and feel good. (Do not watch The Comapny Men if you are currently unemployed or worried about work.) Summary - a nice rom-com that a lot of fun. Its not a documentary on unemployment - its an optomistic romp.

Hanks is a dream and Roberts is her usual goddess self!
What's not to love - a romcom that isn't all sex, and shows a vulnerability in life that many can relate to. Hanks is a dream and Roberts is her usual goddess self! There are some moments that you need to suspend disbelief on and let yourself be drawn into the cutesy storyline. *SPOILER ALERT* - man gets his lady and lady final kicks the deadbeat into touch and moves onward and upward...but in a romantic way that builds...and its because of a more genuine humanity than pure physical attraction. Please let that mirror real life in some way!

Proof that people aren't redundant in the economy and society
This light-hearted, feel-good movie deals with a very important and serious topic in modern life: whether people become redundant in the economy and society or whether ways of thinking about how people, the economy and society interact become redundant. Larry Crowne has the horrible experience of being told by his employer that he no longer fits within its corporate vision and culture and has to leave his job, in spite of his effectiveness, efficiency and loyalty. His employer is not willing to take into account his previous work and life experience in the US Navy or his previous good performance in his current job when letting him go. Larry sets about trying to sort out his situation practically while clearly being hurt by what has happened to him. The powerful lesson in this process is that Larry stays true to himself while being open to new experiences and lessons in this new chapter of his life. He uses his existing network to take up the fortuitous opportunity of a part-time job to tide him over financially, using his previous skills gained in the Navy, while he studies further to gain new, marketable skills. He also builds new networks through his adult college studies to adopt a fresh approach to his communications skills, financial awareness and economics skills and his personal fashion sense. The film confirms that life goes on and it can get better - especially with the help of good friends and associates, updated skills and a positive attitude.

It so upsetting to see Tom in such a bad film - I'm amazed it was even released.
I'd read a few poor reviews, but I thought that the film cannot be as bad as people day - but no it's worse - much worse, indeed I think it's safe to say that this is the most dreadful film I ever seen and I'm a Tom Hanks fan. No way can it claim to be a film worth watching - no way does it meet the advertised information. It so upsetting to see Tom in such a bad film - I'm amazed it was even released. There was an item on the new were fans in the USA saw Tom at a 'gas station' and said just how poor they thought this film was - Tom, it would appear, agreed and refunded the couple the price of their cinema tickets and said that he {Tom} must do better next time. So even nice guys can make diff films. See [...] Top tip - don't bother buying the DVD - even if you see it in the ÂŁ1 bargain bucket at Tesco or Asda - it's a real dud !! I give it zero stars - but Amazon say it's gotta have 1 to 5 stars !
