Good thermal imager
The first unit I received worked well, but did not accept firmware updates. TOPDON worked with me to assess the problem. It was determined that the unit was faulty and should be replaced. TOPDON expeditiously replaced the failed unit. Shipping took a while because it travelled across the country and had to go by surface since there was a Li ion battery. TOPDON provided the shipper and carried the charges. They were good to work with. The TC004 is a good IR imager for the price. I have watched microbolometer array thermal imagers for years. This is the best thermal imager available for the price having a focal plane that is 256x192 pixels. Comparably priced devices generally have smaller arrays so less resolution in their field of view. The TC004 is a handheld unit with a pistol-grip type of handle. It is sturdy and well made. I like this better than a device that plugs into a smart phone. It is more stable and easier to point and shoot. It has a ยฝ-20 thread in the handle bottom so it can be mounted on a tripod. Very convenient for stability. The battery life is excellent. I have not had it run down. I find when charged, it will run for quite a while. The manual is pretty lean. The first 15 pages are in English. The remaining 85 pages are in other languages, clearly an international product. The imager can take stills and video. Associated with the camera is a free downloaded software package, TDView that runs on PC Windows 7, 10 and 11. Thermal analysis can be done with TDView of acquired still images whether taken remotely or while tethered to the PC using TDView. Video taken with TDView while the TC004 is tethered is in .irv format and can be post processed for thermal analysis by extracting stills from the played back video. Video acquired remotely is in .h264 format and can only be viewed in TDView, but not post processed for temperature analysis. Overall, this is an excellent device for the price. I acquired mine on a Christmas sale. I give it 5 stars. This a helpful device for assessing heat leaks in my house. Scary! It has other interesting uses too. I recommend this as a useful addition to any measurement toolkit.

Game-Changer for Insulation Pros โ Precise, Fast, and Incredibly Reliable
As a homeowner who takes pride in doing my own insulation and energy efficiency upgrades, this thermal camera has been one of the smartest purchases Iโve ever made. I was initially skeptical about whether a device like this would be overkill, but it proved its value within the first 10 minutes of use. The image clarity is incredible โ you can actually see where heat is escaping, where insulation is thin or missing, and where cold air is seeping in around windows, outlets, and framing. I used it to inspect my attic, rim joists, and even HVAC ducts. It identified trouble spots I never wouldโve found with a flashlight or even a smoke pen. What really impressed me is how fast and accurate it is. As soon as you power it on, it gives real-time thermal feedback with no lag. I was able to detect and fix a hidden air leak behind drywall that was causing a noticeable draft in our living room. That alone made the investment worthwhile. For any homeowner serious about reducing their energy bills, improving comfort, or just getting a better understanding of whatโs going on behind the walls โ this tool is a must. It gives you a professional edge without having to hire one.

Cool and useful tool!
I've been wanting to get a thermal imaging camera for a while and I'm happy I got this one. I'm looking forward to figuring out more practical uses for this tool. Pros: The build quality is superb - it's been smacked around in the garage a good bit already and I'm confident it will hold up to a decent drop. The imaging is sensitive, detailed and clear. I was already able to identify a sticking brake on my van. It's sensitive enough to be able to pick up where someone stepped for a good bit. The software can calculate and identify the hot and cold points as well as the temperature at the center. You can turn these off and on easily. Pictures and video are easy to take and review. The battery lasts a good while and it has an auto shut off. This is nice for being able to just put it down without worrying about going through too much battery. Cons: I wish it had a reference for emissivity values for different objects in the software or on the exterior. I'm going to print out a small table and tape it on. There are settings for emissivity, temperature and distance. I didn't see these explained during my first look through the manual. I'm not sure what temperature and distance adjusts. The display can get a little laggy with the point calculations running. I'd imagine a little better processor would help, but I don't have a good gauge for how intense the image processing is. It doesn't inhibit work, just not as smooth. It's a non issue if you turn off the post processing. I wish I could delete files using the on board image browser. I'll try to keep this review updated as I find more use cases.

Great Thermal camera for the money
Iโve been using this thermal imaging camera for the past two weeks now. The unit itself is very high-quality. The screen resolution and ability to show the vast temperature range difference is impressive, the price range is very affordable, and the amount of uses are limitless. So far Iโve used this for checking the efficiency of my outdoor Wood Boiler, indoor fuel oil Boiler, checking for drafts throughout my house, vehicle and small engine temperatures, and Finding heating pipes in my walls, just to name a few. The unit feels good in my grip And has multiple settings to get a more accurate thermal picture. My personal favorite is the rainbow palette The only con of this thermal imaging camera I have comes down to how the format of the SD card is. I tried plugging The SD card into my iPhone and Mac computers and it said that I could not read the files. After purchasing and testing, I assume this only works on Windows operating systems but I didnโt see any mention of this on the product page or in the manual.

Topdon tc004 thermal cam. Awesome unit
I've used this on multiple occasions now. I had one of my trucks having brake issues I was able to test the rotors temperature to locate exactly which was the issue. That was great saving time and energy. I also do a bit of remodeling on houses it works great for lots of things. This camera came with an SD card so you can just squeeze the trigger for picks. You can test temp on 1 to point off contact with the option to have 3 points that test your read temp high temp and low temp of the overall screen. Adjustment from white hot or black hot, iron, rainbow hot and red/Grey hot depending on your use and what your reading. Another thing I liked was the ability to adjust the distance in which your reading also being able to set a hi/lo temp alert. The battery last a long time, also the screw mount on the bottom so you can mount the unit on a camera stand for hands free readings. The built in led flash light is pretty nice for getting down in those tight spaces. Overall the topdon tc004 is a great addition to the tool collection with many uses I haven't even breached the surface on. (Not just for mechanics) Also got to give a shout out to Luca Hoffman for hooking me up with this unit it is a great buy.

This is a quality thermal camera on a budget
I was a bit skeptical about this handheld thermal camera at first. You just can't find good thermal cameras at this price point. I have used FLIR units in the past that cost more than any vehicle I own, so I was very surprised at the quality of this unit. The packaging was well done and it came with a microSD card that is adaquate for this device. The included instructions left a bit to be desired, but they were good enough to act a a quickstart guide. Hardware: The unit has a good heft to it, which is typically a good sign. While it is larger than the pictures seem, the ergonomics make it easy to hold. The buttons on the back to run the menu functions are easy enough to use one handed. The over molded rubber grip seems to be affixed well with no loose corners. I am usually not a fan of that stuff becomes it starts to break down and become very sticky over time with use (and sometimes just sitting in the case). The front trigger to initiate recording is easy to use and responsive. The microSD card slot was a little finicky to get the card seated fully, and if there is an orientation diagram, I must have missed it. The charging and memory card ports are underneath a rubber cover to keep dust out, which is a good idea. There is an LED on the front of the unit for fill lighting, but it doesn't come in too much use unless you are in a nearly dark room. Software: The UI is pretty self explanatory, but I did notice that is is hard to see which option is highlighted when you pull the trigger to take a picture. Several times I had to move from Save and Cancel to figure out which one was selected. There is really not much to set up on the unit. It has 4 color palettes to choose from, unit selection, two range settings, etc. The one thing I was hoping to see in a manual would be a good description of the emissivity and range settings and whey they do. Also, maybe a good explanation of when to use the different color palettes. Use: The unit itself is pretty easy to just point and shoot. It does take a minute or so for the unit to fully turn on and initialize. I took a few standard pictures of my ceiling joist in my house and kids (they had fun with that). I was having some issues with prints from my 3D printer not adhering to the heated bed in one corner, so I used it to diagnose some heating issues. Using it to check for hot spots on electrical breaker panels and automotive cooling systems was just as useful. Overall, I am really happy with this purchase and can see it getting a lot of use in the future as a great diagnostic tool.

Hands down the best handheld thermal for the price
Hey guys and gals, I just wanted to share some of the photos I took with the Thermal Camera TC004. I will start by saying I am a full time Diagnostic Technician for a indy shop. I received the tool about a week ago and so far have used it for checking coolant temps, parasitic draws and various other issues that I thought might be fun to use the thermal imager on. I can say without a doubt it is by far the best bang for your buck. I own a very expensive thermal camera from the "tool trucks" (1200$) and let me tell you, it blows it out of the water. First off it is way smaller, feels better in my hand and takes video. It also has a PC/Laptop casting function via USB (that I have yet to use) but could be helpful in the future. There are so many other features and customizing options that it would take me too long to go over them. Like I mentioned it takes video and photos in very high quality. The other day a fellow technician was trying to figure out a heater core problem and I eagerly told him to use the thermal imager. We could see that the coolant going in was hot but the coolant coming out was cold. We confirmed the cooling system function properly and was at the proper level. On another vehicle I used it to see the point when a pulley was locking up and in the video you can see a very quick flash of high heat. This thing is awesome and it has become the only temperature tool I use. One thing I will point out is that this handheld thermal camera only goes up to 662 degrees Fahrenheit so be mindful of that when checking something like a catalytic converter that can reach temps of 1000 degrees Fahrenheit. One down side to the tool, and its a small one, is that when looking at temps above 300 degreed Fahrenheit you need to switch the settings or it will displayed incorrect temperatures. One way I have found to remind myself is I made a label I stuck to the top of the screen that reminds me to switch it if over 300 F. All in all its an awesome tool for the price and I hope to get my hands on the TC005 for higher temperature analysis.

Does everything I expected it to and more
I've had this for about 6 months and used it occasionally for building maintenance tasks/troubleshooting. I have no idea how accurate the readings are in terms of absolute temperature, but the sensitivity of this thing for relative temperature is fantastic. Walk across a wood floor barefoot and see your footprints (not practical, just an example), see water lines behind drywall, air ducts under the floor, moisture loaded spots usual suspects. In one case I was looking for wet spots in the plaster ceiling of a 100 year old church with ~25' ceilings and could clearly see the ceiling joists scanning from ground level, very impressed. Picture is very clear in IR and standard. The basic controls and adjustments are intuitive and easy to use. I was worried I'd be getting junk if it wasn't a FLIR or Fluke, but this thing has pleasantly surprised me. I haven't been rough with it, but the build quality seems rugged. Very pleased.

Saved lots of time when fixing electronics
After a lot of reading reviews and research, I decided to buy this Thermal camera. It has helped me fix some laptops and other electronics without wasting time. If you repair a lot of things, this is most definitely worth the price. Previously I spent hours trying to fix a laptop motherboard, but when this arrived in the mail I could pinpoint the short straight away as a faulty shorted chipset in the CPU and saved me many hours trying to look elsewhere. One thing to consider is if you work with a lot of small smd components, then you should consider a macro lens. Either make your own or look for a thermal camera that you can buy one for. It's possible to use it without the macro lens, but it's not as focused, although you can still pinpoint components.

Works really good on Circuit Boards to fault find.
I really do love this product and have come to use it on a weekly basis once I realised how much it can do. I can even see the braces in my attic while in my living room, makes a good stud finder. Find the cold and hot spots on my dogs for health reasons, accurate when testing my soldering iron tip for good soldering, fish tank temperature, and obviously cold and hot spots in house to seal off, Latest great feature it was very handy with was finding the hot spots in my circuit boards of a CD Player and save it from going to the dumpster.

Does exactly what you think it does. Lets you see another dimension of life. Sturdy, well made, good display, and bigger than you might think. I'm quite pleased with it all around and think this is probably the best value for money for an infrared camera.
