Watching this butterfly land on a rose felt like the perfect ending to a journey we started weeks ago with the National Geographic Butterfly Growing Kit. What began as tiny caterpillars in a small container turned into one of the most memorable experiences I’ve shared with my two toddlers. Every day we watched them eat, grow, and eventually form their chrysalises. The waiting taught patience. The moment the butterflies emerged brought pure excitement and wonder to our home. Seeing my children’s faces light up as they observed each stage of the life cycle made the entire experience meaningful. Releasing them into the garden felt special … a reminder of how incredible nature is and how powerful simple learning moments can be for young children. One even paused long enough to rest on a rose, almost like it was saying goodbye. What a fantastic gift!! Purchased for my grands! We sent off for the larvae, followed the directions and a few weeks later we had beautiful butterflies!! Definitely a win!! So much fun and educational!! Attached is a picture of the growing caterpillars and the full grown butterfly

This kit is cute! We ordered our caterpillars and we cant wait to see them grow.

The caterpillars are not "free". They charge almost $11.00 for shipping and you can buy 5 for $17.00 with free prime shipping. So kind of a rip off, but the habitat was larger than the pictures indicate which is nice.

10/10 we have used for now 2 years. My 4,2, and 7 month old all enjoyed this activity. Caterpillars came and survived (all 6 in each). Suitable for toddlers and we've gifted this to our cousins. Instructions are clear and straightforward. You do have to use the voucher to purchased caterpillars BUT only pay for shipping (like $7 I believe).

I get one of these every year for my kids (now 10 & 7) and they are equally excited every time. It is such a cool hands-on learning experience for them to watch every developmental stage of the butterfly. You do have to order the caterpillars separately but it is for a small charge (under $10). The only reason I don't keep the habitat and replace it each year is because it gets stained during the transformation stage (a little gross) so I prefer to just buy a new clean one each year. This kit never disappoints!

This was a fantastic and engaging experience for our entire family. My children were fascinated by observing the full life cycle of the caterpillars from tiny larvae, to pupae, and finally to butterflies. We successfully hatched all six caterpillars. It appears they include an extra one or two to account for any mishaps during shipping, which is thoughtful. I highly recommend doing a bit of research beforehand, as each stage can be surprising if you're unfamiliar with the process. It's important to note that caterpillars will shed their skin multiple times as this is completely normal and not a cause for concern. When they begin to pupate, they will attempt to hang from the top of the container. During this stage, avoid shaking or disturbing the container. If any pupae fall, you can gently place them on a paper towel inside the provided habitat. Once the butterflies emerge, they will excrete a red liquid called meconium. While it may look like blood, it's simply leftover fluid from their development and is perfectly normal. Allow the butterflies a few hours to rest before releasing them outdoors. Overall, this was a fun, hands-on learning experience and a great way to teach kids about metamorphosis in a memorable way. Highly recommended for families!

Terrible present !! I bought 3 only to discover the voucher to order the larvae is useless as it doesn’t deliver to UAE!! Please refund

The larvae come from the us and they dont slip to australia, so you can buy the kit but you will have to get the butterflies elsewhere.

Have a grandchild who was thrilled with the kit until we all realized it here’s no chrysalis’s included and you have to order from US. US not allowed to ship to Canada-across any borders…. We have a beautiful netted home for caterpillars to hatch into butterflies to look at… Total rip off at the cost especially insulting without the chrysalis being shipped alongside. Even in US you have to place order after you receive the kit, to get the chrysalis so child is with a gift that is unusable. Until, if in US, you put in the order that is the whole concept of the gift/kit.
