From a picky user: great!
So far, day 2... post setup and test, great. It is a little lighter than my previous Epson Workforce, but I wouldn't describe it as flimsy. Well, with the exception of the paper loading tray side rail. That sticks and seems dangerously flexible. It was a joy to watch the ink bottles fill their reservoirs. It actually is a clean and drip-proof loading process... a little scary to invert that bottle of ink and stick it in the receptacle, but it worked! The important thing about the setup is to use their guided smartphone system and follow each step meticulously. I found it was smart to "measure twice cut once". It's tempting to decide you know where they're going and move ahead. Don't do it! Follow each step stupidly and mechanically. It told me the software was up to date immediately. Later, it decided it needed to download an update. Just be patient and follow its laborious thinking process. It gets there eventually. Overall the setup was easy. Print quality, as you would expect, is excellent. I also printed a photograph on plain paper. It was, as you would expect, a little on the muddy side. It objected to using plain paper for photograph, rightfully so. I inserted some glossy photo paper in the supply tray, and it did a good job. Again, the photograph was a 9 out of 10, but this is a home printer. Some reviewers dislike the display. I find it eminently usable. I chose the tile option, and the controls work intuitively, with drop-down menus at each step. Set up of my Android smartphone, my wife's iphone, and my laptop were all pretty straightforward. Again, there was a little confusion about whether my software was actually up to date or not, but it figured that out by itself. The apps work fine. Overall, it seems to be well-designed and high quality. It is quieter than I'm used to. I like the automatic document feeder, the paper supply tray being on the front rather than the back and, of course, the high capacity ink tanks. So far, I'd recommended it. Update: day 4. I spent an hour yesterday on the phone trying to install their computer app on my computer. It was very difficult to communicate with both of the technicians in customer service. They were distracted and didn't seem to be listening when I'd say something. The spoke good English. For example, the easy set up process from day two doesn't get you the latest software. You have to download a package which they don't tell you about. In trying to set up a password, the printer kept refusing. The technician and I kept ending up on a screen that was generated when Epson created one of those long 16 digit passwords. I didn't want to use that, I wanted to generate one I could remember. I explained that and she said tap okay and go to the next screen. When I did, the next screen asked me for my password. Of course, this was the password that was displayed on the previous screen that she told me not to copy. It turns out that when people do copy and paste they sometimes include an extra blank and that slows the whole process down. Instead, they want me to write down a 16 digit password with no errors and then copy it, again with no errors into the next screen. Their software programmer is a little dense. The software also asked me at least seven times for my email address. I got very tired of retyping it over and over again. You would think that, like most software on the internet these days, it would remember my password the first time I typed it and it would auto fill it. No such luck with Epson. The next day I wanted to scan a document to my computer. It kept giving me an error message on my computer that the scanner was busy, even though it had finished scanning. When I called tech support it took 20 minutes to figure out that you shouldn't scan from the display on the scanner/ printer; you should go to your computer and install their Epson scan software and scan using that. In order to get to this conclusion it took us numerous tries to try to get my computer to talk to the IP address on the scanner. It turns out that if you have any other programs open on your computer at the same time it can't do it. Executive summary: the printer/scanner seems to be a good product. The software is unfinished and buggy. It is 15 years behind the times in terms of usability. Good luck!

Best printer ever!!!
I had one Espson EctoTank when it first came out for 4 years and still was printing well and the software outdated and wouldn't print, so I just bought a new one. Ink last for over a year.

Awful printer. Takes 5 minutes to print the test page sometimes.
The entire 3800 series is bad. On MacOS Sequoia and Tahoe, the printers will randomly decide printing 1 page will take 5 minutes. It's been a constant issue. Even trying to print the test page from print queue can take 5 minutes when it get's this way. You need to remove the printer from macOS, reset printer to default settings, reinstall the driver and then readd the printer in MacOS to fix the issue but it WILL come back in a couple weeks. There hasn't been a driver update in 2 years? And I don't remember the last time there was a firmware update. Spend the extra money to get a 5100 series minimum.

As described, so far.
Arrived in good condition, well packaged. Setup was straightforward, although I took a few detours. The phone app and the LCD screen on the printer gave conflicting or confusing information at times. I connected to one Windows 10 machine by USB cable, and one Chromebook, one phone, and one Windows 11 computer, all by wifi. It would not print until installation and setup were completed on the LCD screen, even though the phone app was done. This was mostly a matter of print head alignment, also a little confusing at first. The alignement printing area was small, probably to save ink, but it made it difficult to discern between various options. I did not buy this as a photo printer and it isn't. I did print some photos, both on plain paper and on photo quality 4x6 glossy printer. The glossies had some white lines all over the pictures (see photo) and the plain paper prints were average and saturated the paper enough that it didn't lay flat. Colors were less than vibrant. Document printing was good and fast for an inkjet. I haven't tried duplex printing, but look forward to it, as that is a feature I require. Registration was made difficult by vague descriptions of where the serial number might be. On this machine, it isn't the number under the cover of the flatbed scanner or anywhere on the outside of the printer. It's the number under the flatbed scanner, which you lift to fill the ink tanks. Paper handling is good so far. The printer doesn't recognize paper size automatically and won't print if the print job doesn't match the size it thinks is installed. This can be overridden, but so far, only by walking to the machine and pressing buttons. Much to learn about the tiny LCD screen and the buttons next to it. We old people don't like that. One review suggested that I need to print something at least once a week to keep the ink from drying in the printhead and causing problems. I plan to schedule that, as I don't normally do a lot of color printing. Overall, the printer feels a little light duty. The plastic parts seem thin and flimsy, but they've held up so far, so I'll reserve judgment.

Finally!!!
I have used Epson printers exclusively for years but I recently went through several that had to be returned due to connectivity issues. I looked at the reviews prior to the most recent purchase of the ET-3843. The reviews regarding connectivity were no better for the 3843 than the others but I was having to do eenie, meenie, miney, moe and choose one. So far, the printer has worked well, it prints double sided automatically, it's fast enough for our needs, and there have been no connectivity issues. I remain hopeful but I also haven't thrown out the box just yet.

Died After 2 Weeks
I'm giving the Epson ET-3843 three stars because I had mixed results. On the plus side, the printer started up OK after I followed the somewhat convoluted directions on the Epson App. Print quality was good and the duplex feature worked fine. I didn't try the scanner or automatic document feed. On the negative side, the main power button on the control panel started working intermittently after about a week. Sometimes power came on with one push and sometimes it took 5 to 10 pushes. I expect a device like this to work out of the box, not show problems within a week. I initially contacted Epson support but their suggestion was to "plug the printer into a different outlet." Really? Life is too short to deal with questionable customer support agents, especially with a new printer. I contacted Amazon, described the problem, and received authorization to return the unit as defective. I'm still in need of a printer but may look beyond Epson.

Inexpensive ink - more mileage for your money.
UPDATE 2026.02.14: In my original review below I stated the printer had very slow print speed and, after trying all of the fixes I listed below, I could not get the issue fixed. Turns out it was a local WiFi issue - our Cockatiel had chewed through the power cable to our WiFi mesh router and we were pulling in WiFi on the printer via a very weak signal. Now that the mesh router has been repaired, the Epson printer prints quickly as expected. I bought this printer because of its good reviews and its inexpensive ink -- so much less expensive than what I was paying for my HP printer! However, the printer is both slow to wake up and slow to print, especially when it comes to graphics and pdfs. I have tried all of the "fixes" and none of them have made any difference: print in draft mode; tried printing from different phones and laptops; updated firmware; disabled Quiet mode; bidirectional printing ENABLED. Thus the three star rating, solely due to slowness of printing. My HP printer printed all media/image types very quickly on the same Wi-Fi network the Epson is set up on.

Useful when working
Have owned Canon and Brother printers and have been happy with print quality and printer durability. Brother laser black and white printer was used when I bought it and it is still working perfectly. I Bought the Epson model ET-3843 for the tanks. This printer is made of lightweight cheap plastic. Probably should have returned it before even using. After 18 months of moderate use, it no longer will connect to wi-fi, so all printing has to be done using the cable. That isn't why I purchased a wireless printer! When I have the time and patience will call Epson support and see it there is a way to get it working again.
