"A thief will always be a thief!"
After a series of volumes in which happiness abounded and things were looking up, this installment represents a turning point in the story and a return to darker times. At the end of the previous volume, Guts swiftly defeated Griffith and abandoned him and the Band of Hawks. Guts did this in an effort to seek his destiny and his dream instead of just following Griffith's. But now he is already having doubts, especially since for the first time in his life he had a group of people he could call friends. Griffith has been greatly affected by Guts' departure but is still pursuing his dream, and in the process he is getting romantically involved with Princess Charlotte. But there will be repercussions from his actions. In the meantime, Casca, who had started developing a friendship with Guts, misses him greatly, as does a good portion of the Band of the Hawks. There are two things that make this an outstanding volume in this superb series. First, the story speeds forward into darker times with an intensity seldom seen, but also manages to insert some interesting elements in the process. Second, you will get to witness one of the most awaited moments of the series, and one which allows the creator to show his magnificent ability for detailed and vivid drawings. Once again, we get a healthy dose of violence and gore, but this installment contains a much higher concentration of sexual scenes than any of the previous ones. There are even elements of incest, and some of the allusions get bolder and bolder. Moreover, some of these elements are efficiently used in helping understand better the psyche of the characters. Fans of the series will likely find this volume to be one of the best in the series so far.

confrontation
Griffith has taken Guts leaving hard and decides to seek comfort in the princessess embrace. When Griffith is found out both Griffith and the Band of the Hawk take a hard fall from grace. The introduction of Skull Knight, Guts dueling with Griffith, and sex. Sex is a part of Miura's world of Berserk, and only sometimes is it at all meant to be titillating. Here we have Griffith's inability to code leading to a serious misstep; Guts confronting both Casca and his own sexual/familial trauma.

I've said it once and I'll keep saying it over and over. This is not just one of the best stories in comics/manga it's one of the best stories in any form of media I've had the pleasure of experiencing. The story, the way it's told, the time-line of how it's told, the art, the characters. The main characters, the side characters, the lurking feeling of what's coming and how it got to the point it starts. Just a masterclass in every way possible. I can't wait to finish no matter what happens and am again so glad I heard about this and decided to give it a try. I've always been into batman and some other DC comics, not a huge marvel guy. I like a couple things but mostly batman and some other DC stuff. But this is the 1st manga I've ever read, I took out the 1st issue or volume of attack of titan or on titan and I just read maybe a couple pages but didn't give it a real shot but it also DID NOT hook me immediately like this did. Other then this I've read a couple Junji Ito mangas but they are 1 offs/trades of his, so other then this and UZUMAKI, Soichi and now reading dissolving classrooms by junji ito and those 3 are like horror/body/twilight zoney I guess I would describe it as? But he's amazing and so is this.

A year late we follow Guts on his newest journey of self discovery. Heโs still swinging his sword but finds himself in an arena looking for a real challenge. He hears wind of his old comrades and feels the tug to go back. This book introduces a new romance in a deep and tender way. I love a good romance but Iโm scared where this will lead. Iโm not ready for heartbreak.
