Works as advertised
Great product, easy to use and works as advertised. Scores over a traditional tingle as it exerts some upward pressure on the slate giving a much more solid fix. A quick tip though: put the pull down loop on the hook *before* you put the slate in place. Its tricky to locate with the slate covering the hook.

Fantastic idea
Prior to discovering this brilliant and unobtrusive slipping slate cure, the only way I knew involved cutting a 25mm strip of lead, fixing it to the first accessible timber batten, sliding the slate into place and then folding the lead over the bottom of the slate to hold it in place. Whilst it lasts, it does the job but eventually it degrades and looks like a bodge from the moment it’s first fitted. The Hallhook is unobtrusive and being made of stainless steel, it will last many years. They are a little expensive but well worth it and I would recommend them to anyone with an aging slate roof.

Brilliant device - makes replacing a tile very easy
What a life saver these hooks are. I needed to replace a tile on my roof and in the process of trying to get the broken bits out managed to break 2 more. complete nightmare. I could see no obvious way of getting the replacement tiles fixed into place, short of using the infamous yellow foam or calling out a roofer, at vast expense. These little beauties solve the problem in a very clever way. Its very easy to use and seems extremely solid. Only time will tell whether its a long term solution but it looks robust enough. And it has saved me a fortune in roofer fees. It is also worth watching the Youtube video by Mr Hall, the eponymous inventor

Great product - easy to use by DIY’er
Great product for replacing broken slate. Quick and easy (with slate ripper) took less than a minute to change the slate and is very secure. Copper clout nails are not included… but if they were… it would have made it perfect…

1860 house with heavy slates as shingles and no timber to hammer into
Without a batten to fix to I found another way. I had some butterfly fastenings which I placed the butterfly between the two tiles where the batten should have been, and screwed in place through the clip to clamp on the old tiles. Then put the new tile in place, and pulled the curly spring down as shown on the video, and hey presto, the tile was firmly held in place. The only down side was that the hook at the bottom of the spring could do with been bent over the tile more, as my tiles were heavy thick things. Time will tell, but it fixed the problem, and was quick and easy once I figured out how to attach to the wall. So if no batten, or rafter, then the standard butterfly fixing worked for me.

A good idea but not easy to use
Hall hooks are a cleaver concept but using them can be quite difficult. If your existing slates have been fitted with galvanised nails rather than copper or aluminium then it can be very difficult to remove the old slate and part of the nail may be left behind protruding above the batten. This can make it hard to insert the new slate even using the slate ripper as shown in the YouTube video. The supplied wire loop to extend the Hall hook is too short and tends to get dislodged while manoeuvring the new slate into position. I made myself a much longer version with a smaller eye which made it easier. I changed 4 slates but only 2 of them bedded down properly. However, the hooks are invisible and unlike the more conventional tingles do not slowly unbend and allow the slate to fall out.

great product...will buy more.
A superb solution to an age old fixing problem...lead/copper strips weaken with time and are unsightly. This product is virtually invisible, and fixes the slate very securely. I have found that they also work well with fibre cement slates, as the pin goes through the rivet hole nicely. One of those inventions that you wish you had thought of...A tad pricey, but worth it for the discerning roofer.
