High quality versatile piece of kit
We took this hammock on an 8 day kayaking and camping expedition and it was an incredibly valuable addition to our kit. My husband and I both have Hennessy hammocks now I (5ft 6 and 55kg) have the scout symmetrical hammock and my husband (5ft11 and 75kg) has the expedition asymmetrical hammock. Pros: extremely consistent and comfortable bed every night of your trip. Quick and easy to put up once you know what you are doing. Very mosquito resistant (although this was also a con as by the middle of the evening we both just wanted to be in our hammocks when there were mosquitoes about). Very well made piece of kit - there is no sign of wear at all after a heavy amount of use. Flexible system - can be used with or without rainfly and you can put rainfly angled higher or lower depending on the weather and activities. We also found the hammocks consistent whether hung from trees closer or further away, as long as the bungees were properly tensioned. The velcro entrance worked well and we like the webbing straps that come with the hammocks - it is only a shame they don't also include the snake skins packing bags but we have just used the regular bags that they came with and they have been fine. Hammocks are also pretty dark once you are inside them so it is possible to sleep in if you want to. Cons: as with all hammocks you need to find a camp site suited to hanging them in. Generally this wasn't a problem at all but just an adjustment in what you are looking for. Our camps felt a lot more discreet and lower impact than if we had a tent that was crushing grass etc. They can be chilly if you haven't got something under you (we now both use lightweight small mats in the hammocks as it can be cool where the sleeping bag is squashed under you eg hips and shoulders), as with all hammocks you are separate from everyone else you are camping with so it limits conversation once you are in the hammocks. Obviously there is some movement side to side when you are in it and so we found it a small adjustment from tents as it can feel like hard work sorting out mats, sleeping bags etc when you are in the hammock particularly when it is dark. Also we slept later than we would normally when camping and so had to set alarms which was unexpected. We really like our hammocks and would highly recommend these. High quality, worth the investment and a piece of kit which has changed the way we camp and explore.

Excellent
Excellent hammock. Comfy and easy to set up and take down - even easier with snakeskins (recommended). My 12 year old regularly puts it up single handed in a couple of minutes. I like the way you get in from underneath and the velcro snaps shut behind you, so no risk of dirt or weather coming in with you. Tarp included is quite small but adequate - could be a problem in strong sideways winds, but you can buy a bigger tarp. Weighs about a kilo, so quite heavy for a backpacking trip and we haven't worked out how to use it as a bivvy shelter if you don't have trees. By the way, it does still fit in the sack provided with snakeskins on.

This is a superb piece of hiking equipment! It is extremely comfortable and as flexible in terms of practical functions as the many Youtube videos demonstrate. It is lightweight and can be put up and taken down in minutes. If I were to purchase another, I would go for a slightly larger version - I am 180cm tall, the maximum recommended height for the hammock - and felt a little more length would have been beneficial. I would also purchase the hammock and flysheet separately, opting for the larger size fly. Although this was sufficient in the moderate rain I experienced, and did not let any water through, a larger shelter would have been useful. Nevertheless, well worth the five star rating!

Best tent... ever.
This is tent is the best. Comfortable, warm and easy to set up. I own several more expensive tents, but this one beats all of them. Camp in the desert or camp in the snow, this does both. The only downside is there's only room for one person, but you can't have everything.

getting in the swing of it
being an avid outdoors man, in a i lived in trees fighting the advance of eco terrorism for 8 yrs plus sort of way, it certainly takes a brilliant idea and a serious piece of kit to impress me. The hennessy hammocks are one of these truly amazing pieces of kit, two uprights (usually trees) and your ready to sleep in minutes. I invested in the larger hex fly and some snake skins which make setup and take downs a breeze. This has to be the best temporary shelter i've ever slept in, level ground is not necessary and i have even pitched across small rivers and streams. if you are in any doubt about this piece of kit search YOUTUBE for videos out of the hundred or so i've yet to find a bad review. Loads of reviews from people doing the A.T. in the USA singing it's praises.

Very well build, and came as advertised. Have yet to use it, but I have lots of friends that have been telling me to buy one for years. Very impressed with the product quality, and even more excited to get to use it! Edit: Finally got it out and was very impressed with it. Took me a couple tried to get the ropes tied properly, but I found it very easy and got it set up in about 5 minutes the very first time I tried :) I slept on the beat and was exposed to a decent amount of wind, but everything held tight and kept me warm and dry all night. Very satisfied with this purchase

Overall, an excellent product. Used it for many weekend hikes, and besides a few issues (both product and user) I would highly recommend this product. Pros: Light weight, versatile, good on the back Cons: Definite learning curve to setting up and taking down effectively, bug net can not be removed, no stakes Bought this hammock 4 years ago right before a hike to Black Forest Trail in the hope that I could save space and weight. And this hammock did both quite well and much more! Did quite a bit of reading online and watched a few videos about setting the hammock up since this my first camping hammock. The price was off putting at first and I eventually just decided to go for it! So while the below wall of text may seem contradictory to the rating I gave it, it's more of just sharing my experiences with this hammock so that maybe people who buy it will be aware and prepared for when they take it out. This thing is nice and light weight and since it has no true "hard" pieces I could throw it in a compression sack if I want. Usually I just keep it in its stuff sack close to the top of my pack. Now while this maybe strictly due to operator error, but setup is definitely a learning process. I've had trees too close together and too far apart. The only usable trees covered in poison ivy or get to a pre planned site to find out there are no trees to support me. The first few times I set it up, there was considerable sag in my hammock because I didn't quite get the bite on the knots correct. That along with a rainstorm caused a soggy sleeping bag. I've tried bringing it on a winter hike and had the temperature drop out and been shivering all night long even in a 0 degree bag. Ok, so most of this is just my fault and sounds like a lot of room for error but I think it's quite minor. Once you sleep in it for a night, it will be hard to go back to a tent ever again (which is why I tried to take it winter hiking hahaha). It takes some getting used to sleeping over the entrance on the bottom and it can feel a bit claustrophobic inside when it is dark and you got a bunch of nonsense hanging from the main line. But all those nasty hard spots that your underwhelming pad can't fix or that root or rock you notice in the middle of the night, those nights are gone! I have for the most part awoken quite refreshed! I have gotten fairly efficient setting it up before my hiking buddy finishes his tent or his hammock. The bug net is worth it for the piece of mind of keeping creepy crawly's off and not being eaten alive by mosquitoes. Now while I have been jealous of my buddy on nights where he doesn't use his bug net or just climbs in over the side for his hammock, I think the integrated netting lends to a speedy and easy setup and clean up. The rainfly may seem a bit minimal but for the most part does the job. Unless you have too much sag or the rain is sideways, I've stayed dry in rain and have started to use a small tarp to add rain protection if I'm expecting serious weather. No stakes came with it but I generally just tie off to nearby foliage or pick up some sticks to stake into the ground (now I just bring my tent stakes). Would be nice to have included them but not a deal breaker in my opinion. As far as overall durability and how sturdy it is, I would say that I was underwhelmed when I first got it. I thought it looked flimsy, and being 230lbs, slightly concerned. But I can safely say that this hammock is well made and I've had no problems with rips, tears, or weight tolerance. The first few times you crawl in can be a bit nerve wracking as you finally put your full weight in it. Finally, this hammock system will take some getting used to if you're used to the tent life (I grew up camping out in a coleman tent and then a eureka). Suddenly those vestibules you had to store your boots and messy gear is gone. Want to hide out with your hiking partner in the tent during a rain storm to play some cards? Getting in and out of the hammock can be a bit awkward in the middle of the night to relieve yourself and if it is going to rain, better make sure you have a bag to keep your gear in. And make sure you put everything in the hammock before you get in or you will have to get back out and rummage through your pack etc. These are most of the lessons I've learned with this hammock. Overall I love it and really think it's worth considering when looking at getting a hammock for hiking or just an excellent compliment to your tent.

Pretty happy overall. The only thing I had a problem with was that the stuff-sack had a rip in it upon delivery(though it was easily fixable with a needle and thread). Also I would suggest either dressing warmly at night, or buying the double bubble pad.

I took this on a kayaking trip in British Columbia last week. I wanted to go light, and so I decided I'd risk taking just this and no tent. I figured in the worst scenario I could just put up a tarp or something. . . Anyway, from the first night, I was very pleased. I don't sleep well camping, usually. Either I have trouble getting my pad right (mine is a little slippery, I guess), or finding a decent clear and level spot for a tent, or something. I also never really liked the light-weight mummy bags; I always feel confined. With this hammock and my usual confining light-weight sleeping bag, though, I was very comfortable. Heck, I slept like a baby. Setup was really simple, and being in BC I never had a problem finding trees. I'm not terrific with knots; I used the recommended lash to hang it and had no trouble, though. I also really appreciated the bottom entry after some initial doubts; it's definitely the best approach. I really appreciated how easy it is to get in and drop my shoes right below without getting grit or water inside. I was able to get comfortable in a variety of positions, too. I mostly slept on my back, a bit diagonal (like they recommend), but I also slept just fine on my side one night. My light bag, which usually really bugs me on the ground, was just fine in the hammock. For some reason I just didn't feel all confined like I usually do. We had some rain on the trip (it is the Northwest) but I was completely dry the whole time with the basic included rain fly. Quick setup, too; I was out of the rain quickest of our group. It didn't get too cold - maybe 50 F, so I don't know how it is in the cold. I was never bothered by either hot or cold though. I think with the right sleeping bag and maybe some insulation you could get right down to freezing without a problem. Warmer clothes and you could go lower. There are some drawbacks; it's not really private, for one. It's not BAD, but people are going to be able to see in from some angles if they want to. It's still relatively. It's also just a bit of a challenge to change clothes or climb into a sleeping bag, though that might be better with practice. There's a little bit of storage inside, but most of your stuff is going to be outside. In my case, I just hung my dry bags from some webbing wrapped on the tree at my feet for easy access. It packs up quickly and in a really small bundle. I was able to get it into a 20-liter dry bag with my sleeping bag, a tarp (just in case) and a couple of stakes for the side lines (when there weren't trees or something to tie to). I'm thinking that with this hammock I could probably do multi-day backpacking trips with just a decent-sized daypack. So after a week of use, I highly recommend it. It improved my camping experience tremendously. It's very high quality, very well designed, and just about the perfect way to sleep outdoors.
