Hi Fidelity and good looks are both part of stereofile experience.
Great product and fast delivery! Even in the snow I got my SACD player delivered by FedEx delivered today. Much better price and faster delivery. The Denon factory guy on the phone helped my with the set up, and the unit adds to my already nice Stereo System. This player matches my other components well not just in looks but in Hi Fidelity delivery. Thank you

Great entry level SACD player
For an entry level SACD player this unit is a great deal. The sound quality is much better than regular CDs and the build quality is very good. This unit should last for many years. The remote does not open the tray but that's a minor inconvenience.

Poor value
If you have the funds and inclination to buy this Denon DCD-1700NE CD/SACD Player, don't. You will undoubtedly be better off with a CD transport and a DAC. Although I have not actually gone to the separate DAC yet, it is not a stretch to assume that the sound quality would be noticeably better for the same cost. I bought this because my first, and only other dedicated CD player, was a Denon (purchased in 1989). I also had a Denon dual cassette player from the early 1990s that was great with an old Kenwood integrated amplifier. Remote: Pictured (yes, I do wipe it down frequently) has no eject button and only works when the physical ON button is engaged. CD Transport: Pictured. It has a surface that can be described as very gripping (even sticky), unlike any other CD player I have ever used. As expected, this player is also very sensitive to dust. The only way I found to clean it adequately without leaving more problems on the surface has been with a Reshow brand lens cleaning CD. Disc Reading: If you have a SACD (or SHM) in the transport when you turn the unit on, you will get a "wrong format" error message every time. Take the same SACD out, turn the unit back on, and reinsert the SACD; no problem reading it. Last but not least. If you visit the Denon website, you will discover that Denon only honors their warranty (I imagine there are some exceptions) when they are sold directly from Denon. It seems we have a HiFi equipment resale issue in the country. Is the sound great? I think so. But I believe there are many better options. Do I think the SACD format is worth it? In my opinion, yes, it is. I refuse to return to vinyl.

Sounds Fantastic. Built to last and attractive to look at.
This is the best cd player I've owned and I've paid up to $2500 for one. It seems to get better every week in sound. Being 32 bit, it more completely extracts CD info for a very present and detailed sound. I should say I'm feeding it with an expensive interconnect and power cord. Also, it reads some disks that my previous player couldn't. IMO, it's audiophile CD player in its price range. It's heavy and built like a tank. Is likely the last CD player I will ever buy.

What you see is more than obvious
Superb construction and look. The sound reproduction is accurate, full bodied and dynamic. This is a machine for purists. There are not bells and whistles or extraneous modes that offer unused flexibility. I love the balanced sound , excellent workmanship and solid heft of this product. Easy to recommend for the minimalist audio lover.

Worth the wait
I've been waiting for the price to drop and I finally pulled the trigger on a refurbished silver model. It looks great and works wonderfully well. Substantially built (heavy) and very quiet in operation. The sound quality is the best I've ever heard from my CDs.

Excellent unit
If you are looking for a substantial improvement in audio quality, this unit stands out. I replaced a 20 year old Denon SACD player with this unit and the improvement in audio quality was heard immediately. Price is a bit stiff but if you are looking for the next level this is a move you won’t regret.

Denon SACD 1700 NE player
Great sound, heft and appearance. Had a Yamaha s1000 for 2 years that needed an impossible to find a firmware update.. so it died on me. Using Pure Direct with with high quality amp , preamp, speakers and cables. So far, great value and saved 500 with"open box" purchase. Silver model looks stunning.
