Oxford A-Z of Grammar and Punctuation

A fantastic book. It's small, concise and covers everything you might need to know about grammar and punctuation. I self-publish a lot of books and use it all the time for reference. Highly recommended.

If your grammar and punctuation needs some work, look no further than this book. It's worth every penny. It goes into more depth than I was ever taught in school and serves as a fantastic reference guide that you can open up and look through. It's a small book and you can quite easily find what you're looking for without too much effort. If you don't know your homonyms from synonyms or your verbs from your nouns, buy this book and you'll soon be up to speed!

I was disappointed to find this book is only A6 size, which means the font is tiny. There was nothing in the product description or scale in the photo to indicate the book was 'pocket-size.' The contents are excellent, though, you do need to have a reasonable understanding of grammar to know what you are looking for and get the most out of the book. I like how shading has been used to highlight tables, lists and diagrams. The use of word hierarchy helps with the explanation and understanding of the topic. The book will be a helpful accompaniment to the textbooks I am using to improve my grammar. It is more of a reference manual than a book to learn about grammar and punctuation, though.

This has been brilliant for getting to grips with grammar in a concise way. The layout enables you to dip in and out at particular points when you require. A solid pocket reference book on grammar and punctuation.

This was really helpful for me. I used it for my uni English grammar class and exam! Everything is explained in a very understandable language and I would recommend it to anyone who is struggling with grammar class, like I was. I wish it had been on my schools booklist, so I would have had it from the beginning and not just for the last exam :)

I am 57 and I have never ever really understood punctuation until now. I grew up in an era where teachers barked orders and questions were never given proper answers, you either understood or you didn't; I didn't. This has been a great little book to have and very easy to understand. Highly recommended.

This seems generally ok so far as a little reference book, however.....I thought I'd got the hang of the different sentence types (simple, compound, complex) until I reached the section in this book where Seely uses the following as examples of complex sentences: 'What you did yesterday was inexcusable', 'That is what I admire about Billie'. These are simple sentences, surely? Am I going mad?!

Arrived promptly and well packaged. An excellent book helping me to recap the grammar we were taught in school all those decades ago - the stuff they do not teach children these days!!!! Extremely interesting and educational (of course). Some parts are tricky due to their complexity (I had forgotten this stuff), and I am working my way through it slowly. Thank you

小冊子で183頁の初級者向けの語法・文法・句読法辞典である。上級者は基礎力のチェックに用いるとよいだろう。しかし、通読すると上級者にも有益な解説もある。たとえば、 見出し語he, she, or it の項には、If your employee is over pension age, ( ) pays no employee's NI contributions. のような場合( )に入る代名詞は何か論じている。he, she, he or she は可能だが、問題がある。最近ではIf your employee is over pension age, they pay no employee's NI contributions.とすることもあるが、反対する人もある。それではどうすればいいのか。文を書き換えてこの難問を避ける手はある。しかしいつも書き換えが可能とは限らない。根本的な解決策はないようである（pp.78-69). Greengocer's appostrophe という面白い見出しもある (p.67)。八百屋では品目表示でapplesとすべきところで、よくapple's を用いる。（私も英国に滞在中、ロンドンの八百屋でよく見かけた）。これはもちろん誤りであるが、文字とか数字の後ではGreengocer's appostropheは問題ない：She never crossed her t's properly and wrote 7's in the French way.
