Good value and mixes well
I brought this to use in conjunction with their Whey protein. This is a better solution to having to consume a pot of cottage cheese before bed time. I have also started using it before I go to work. My shift work affords me very few opportunities to eat especially with no scheduled breaks. I tend to graze and this slow release protein helps to keep the amino acid levels topped up throughout the shift. The taste isn't great but palatable. It's more like creamy coconut with hints of vanilla. Mixes into a thick solution. I use 200 ml milk with 100 ml of water. Produces much less froth than milk alone. I also use a scoop and a half. Mixed using a Maximuscle shaker, and shaken for about 10 seconds. I'm pleased with the results but haven't tried any other Casein proteins.

I recommend this 100% to everybody that is looking for high quality casein.
This is great casein - I've always been a bit skeptical after reading from a few places about how this can be a carcinogen, but the study it's taken from is massively biased and not really applicable to humans. If you're after a supplement to take at night just so your body doesn't starve itself of proteins during synthesis while you're asleep, this is what you need. A lot of people take just whey during the day which is fine, but this is making sure you are never low on protein during your whole day cycle. I recommend this 100% to everybody that is looking for high quality casein. Now, the truth about Casein itself is pretty straightforward. The study was done on mice - not humans. It's true that Casein is a slow release protein and it does sit in the colon for a while, but that's true for anything honestly. If you eat or drink late at night, it will sit in your stomach for a good 8 hours (minimum) until you wake up. There's nothing wrong with that because the body has a natural suppressive effect on its own digestive system which occurs around 2am every morning. Also, Casein is made by heating up milk into a powder. Using lower quality milk from questionable places during this process will probably come with some side-effects but this is Optimum Nutrition - as long as they keep using high-standard ingredients everything will be fine. That being said, I have only ever trusted Casein from ON themselves, I just don't see the strong track record with other brands. If you're thinking about getting this you probably should. Don't cheap out - get the good stuff.

Amazing!
Best casein I’ve tried so far, vanilla is definitely better than chocolate. Tastes better and is a lot smoother while chocolate has that grainy texture so I won’t buy that flavour again.. It is a bit better if I shake it with a spoon of peanut butter but if you’re thinking about buying it, I’d recommend vanilla over chocolate any day! I’m also lactose intolerant and this is so far the only casein I’m able to drink without any issue.

Good product
Can’t fault the fact that it does keep me feeling fuller for longer, as I don’t eat when I’m working (I’m a carpenter). But compared to normal whey protein this stuff is very dry tasting and a little powdery. Also it’s a super fine dust that sticks to absolutely everything if you spill it 😂 besides that it tastes good and can feel a difference

What happened
I used the ON Casein regularly in the past but had to take a rest from training for a while. Now that I am back, I am disappointed that they have changed the formula. I used to wish to use this as my only protein supplement as the taste and mixability were excellent. What we have now is simply terrible in comparison. If you have not had it before, you may think it is fine, but it used to be so much better. This stuff used almost to mix itself, but now it is full of lumps that are hard to mix without a blender. I would no longer recommend this to anyone with the new flavour and difficulty to mix. This review relates to vanilla. However, sadly, I purchased the chocolate flavour too and felt the same about it, but I had not tried this before.

My favourite product
The powder is fantastic. Creatine does not agree with me at all so I have upped my protein intake drastically and this product gives me exactly what i need. When you are lifting to get big and ripped anyone in the know will tell you that periods of fasting are absolutely the worst thing you can do and when do you fast for longer than when you are asleep? When taken before bed with water this product increased my raw strength and lean size drastically, not to the same extent as cycling creatine but as i've said, there are serious side effects to use of creatine if you are sensitive. If i was asked to quantify i would say that this improved my results by at least 20% and don't be put off by the price! There is no substitute for milk proteins and a combination of casein in the morning and evening and whey pre and post workout is the best you can give your muscles. You'd have to eat a tin of tuna to get the same amount of protein as you do in a serving of this and its massively inferior protein at that!

Tastes horrid, Bloody well Hope is actually working...
Bloody awesome idea. Some sort of satisfaction knowing that my aching muscles are being trickle-fed during time spend sleeping. But it tastes bloody horrid, and makes me sick forcing this down. Much better off blended with half a banana. It need something to distract from the taste. Also be prepared to wake up thirsty as a shipwreck survivor and gassy.... and I mean Sewage from hell scented gassy. Like I say, I really hope is doing me some benefit.

ON always deliver
ON casein is by far and away the best casein on the market. The vanilla flavour mixed with peanut butter and bannana is superb. Ideal product for myself as i like a snack at night so use this. Im still not 100% convinced you need a casein supplement if you get your macros for the day down but if you can afford it then go for it. Good ingredient profile.

Very good quality casein protein. Mixes smoothly and has a nice thick texture, which is great for a nighttime shake. Helps keep you full and supports recovery while sleeping. Optimum Nutrition is always reliable.
