X-Men: Days Of Future Past [Blu-ray] [Region B] [2017]

This will be free of the spoilers so fear not. The "Intelligent Blockbuster" as they say has a new addition to the list. Ramping up both the Mutants as "pick-a-minority" allegory / metaphor, AND the action & effects, the film manages to make spectacular use of two amazing casts in a way that, for example, The Amazing Spider-man 2, failed to do with just one. As producer of X-Men: First Class, Bryan Singer folded the Origins Magneto script into that film, which is why that film often plays like his Origin story. As director of Days of Future Past he's made a film that could described as Origins Professor X & Mystique: as Wolverine tries to drag Charles Xavier into his position as founder and soul of the X-Men, whilst, Young Magneto& Charles compete to see whether we will end up with Raven or Mystique by the end of the film. The future of the human race also happens to hang on her path. The impression you may have gotten from the trailers is that in adapting one of the comic book industry's most famous stories the film would start in our near future and then switch to the past think again. The film masterfully switches the action back and forth between 1973 and the future, largely because the method of time travel means that those in the future remain connected, in real time, to poor old/young Wolverine as he struggles not only to change history for the better, but to undo the damage that is being caused simply because he is there and giving people knowledge of the future. What pays off here for 20th Century Fox is what paid off for Marvel in their Avengers Universe, excellent casting of the separate films. So here we get the return of the peerless Sirs Patrick Stewart & Ian McKellen, & Hugh Jackman, et al alongside the quite superb Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult and Jennifer Lawrence. Both past and future sets of X-Men are a joy to watch seeing their differences and similarities in the same film is a real plus. Of the new additions Fan Bingbing's Blink is the best realised and the way her powers are used gives the White house attack by Nightcrawler at the start of X-Men 2 a real run for its money. Speaking of running, American Horror Story's Evan Peters' turn as Quicksilver is extremely memorable and I think Joss Whedon maybe watching this film and wondering if the Marvel Cinematic Universe's version of Quicksilver in Avenger: Age of Ultron (and the end of Captain America: The Winter Soldier) will stack up; I promise you the Quicksilver prison break scene will be many people's favourite part of this film! Peter Dinklage is, as always, excellent, with his character another in that long list of people whose vision of a peaceful future for mankind includes squashing segments of society he doesn't care for. Like Stalin & Co he doesn't do evil laughs, because he truly sees himself as a hero Good news If you hated X-Men Origins Wolverine, as this film pretty much seems to rubber stamp the consigning of that to a "What If" story, in other words it never really happened. If you are one of those people than runs out as soon the first words appear at the end of a film (Shame on you) then you need to make sure you hang around until the very end here as the X-Men's biggest nemesis (no it is not Magneto) makes a very regal appearance 1-2-3... It's been interesting so far in 2014 as with 5 Super hero films due this year (Captain America 2, Amazing Spider-man 2, X-Men, Guardians of The Galaxy & Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) we had one of the best ever in the MCU elevating Captain America: The Winter Soldier gave invasion of Privacy, Edward Snowden & political thrillers the Super Hero treatment. This was followed by a firm reminder of why so many comic book fans wish Sony would just let Spider-man die and return to Marvel Studios, with a duller than dishwater sequel to an already average film. Well X-Men Days of Future past, may upset those same comic book fans as Fox look to have secured their rights to Marvel's X-Men for some time to come, with their best Super hero film yet and, for my money, one of the top 5 Super hero films ever made. Over to you Guardians of The Galaxy...

Its quite a grown up sort of treatment, not quite as stylish as The Wolverine (I mean the second Wolverine title). Sometimes I wonder if they did not try as hard with the photography as there are moments I thought the camera work was daytime soap opera level. Young Magneto seems to have lost his Irish accent from First Class, old Charles looks quite a lot older than Captain Picard, Rogue is there for about 2 seconds in a cutaway shot. The thing that does confuse me is that Wolverine appears to be going grey at the temples in the future, despite not ageing anywhere else, and also has his adamantium claws back despite having had them cut off in The Wolverine. Apart from Mystique, the other x-men getting significant screen time are male, which is a pity as I had hoped to see more Emma Frost (who was not in this one). Still I have watched it and rewatched it several times, so thats why I am happy I bought the DVD.

Great box set of movies.

Unforgettable full on action that will have you blown off your feet, the past and future join forces to defeat the robots that are wiping out mankind. The cast off great actors and storyline just as good you can't go wrong with this so what are you waiting for get a move on they may run out and you'll miss something fantastic, if you loved the first than this is a must have for the collection. I rated this an A grade plus for the suspense and thrills that come and go not knowing what's next keeping you seated to the chair waiting, involved with the cast, the tension in the air is unusual makes you stay put, do the robots win or not well I know so now it's your turn to move get ready to relax with feet up and popcorn in hand and remote so you don't forget to press play. Enjoy!

This is a great film. I don't want to come across as totally corny but its filled with hope which is what the X-MEN have always been about, tilting at windmills in the face of overwhelming odds and winning. Its the most hope filled film I have seen in ages, with a lot of heart. A message of confronting problems no matter what. What can I say? I liked that. I think this is probably the best of Singer's X-MEN films - yes X-MEN two was pretty special but this had a very cleverly put together script with the plot hung around a historical framework learning from First Class (which this is better than - FC being excellent though). Great performances, Jackman, McAvoy and Fassbender doing great stuff - Jennifer Lawrence was Jennifer Lawrence (which is to say an earnest performance) and Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan being awesome (though it seemed a little like protracted cameos - but very good ones). I loved the original story on which this is based and this is a great adaptation.

I have to say I was very disappointed with this movie. Maybe my expectations were too high as Days of the future past was one of my favourite X-men storyline. I was even done pretty well in the 80-90 cartoon series. This movie version of it I felt very slow and to be honest a bit dull. I am probably a bit prejudice as I never liked the original first class X-men in the comics and definitely did not like the X-men First Class movie. I think The saving grace that moved this from a 2 star to a 3 star move were the parts in the future these were very well done. I do wish the move was set there or at least in the present day. The plot is your basic time travel storyline. Mutants and humans have been hunted almost to the point of extinction, identifying a point in history where Sentinel program started and became the super-efficient killers by capturing Mystique after her first kill. The more obvious point to me was to make sure that they did not get her DNA. Cause the fear factor of Mutants was magnified by a 1,000,000% at rather than Mystique killing 1 person to Magneto dropping a stadium on the White House and declaring war on humanity. Now the comic book fan must point out two glaring holes in the movie Kitty Pryde does not have the ability to time travel she phases through solid objects in the comic this made here consciousness the prefect choice for a powerful psychic to send back into her younger body. Mystique does not have the power to take on other mutant powers or adapt counter measures to external attacks. Those are Rogue and Darwin's powers respectively. Mystique is a shape shifter taking her DNA could explain the Sentinel's T-1000 type abilities to change shape and create stabbing weapons. Over all a an ok movie for me as I wish it was set more in the future or at least in the modern time with more of my favourite X-men in it. The ending however does set the stage of many more X-men movies. As well as the lost years of Wolverine I am sure is already in the pipeline. All I can say is bring on the Apocalypse.

Nel futuro l'astio degli umani verso i mutanti è sfociato in una grande guerra che ha portato l'homo sapiens a vincere grazie a delle Sentinelle robotiche tre volte grandi rispetto a un uomo normale, costruite con il DNA di tutti i mutanti e sopratutto con quello di Mystica. Le Sentinelle sono creature progettate al fine di distruggere qualunque mutante e incarcerarlo nei campi di concentramento istituiti a Central Park. Nel passato (dieci anni dopo gli eventi del First Class), Mystica uccise Boliviar Trask, inventore delle Sentinelle, colpevole della morte di quasi tutti i mutanti visti in precedenza (Emma Frost, Azazel, Angel, ecc.) dai quali ha prelevato il DNA dopo aver fatto i suoi macabri esperimenti. Subito dopo l'assassinio Mystica viene catturata e martoriata, anche lei sottoposta a esperimenti scientifici estremamente violenti alla fine dei quali i suoi geni vengono prelevati. In un qualche modo scappa prima di essere uccisa ed hanno luogo gli eventi descritti nei primi film sugli X-Men. Per sventare la guerra e la deportazione dei mutanti, Wolverine viene mandato nel passato da Kitty Pride, la quale sembra aver scoperto un nuovo potere ovvero quello di poter spedire le coscienze delle persone nel passato per un lasso di tempo limitato. Così Wolverine negli anni 70 deve trovare il modo di riunire gli X-Men, convincere Charles e Magneto a collaborare e impedire a Mystica di uccidere Boliviar, quest'ultimo evento viene considerato la causa principale del futuro distopico creatosi successivamente. E' una storia densa che raccoglie tanti aspetti che caratterizzano la fantascienza contemporanea come i viaggi nel tempo e la mutazione. Tornano anche i temi filosofici che caratterizzano la serie come quello sulla diversità e non mancano effetti speciali magnifici. Oltretutto vediamo nuovi mutanti su entrambe le linee temporali, Blink, Alfiere e tanti altri sul futuro, Pietro Maximoff (Quicksilver) sul passato. E' un capolavoro senza dubbio quello che prosegue la nuova trilogia basata sul passato e lo consiglio a tutti gli appassionati di X-Men ma anche a tutto il resto per il semplice fatto che, a mio parere, è una perla del cinema contemporaneo. Sono già in trepidazione per il prossimo capitolo: X-Men Apocalypse.

I'm a fan of most of Marvel's Superheroes/Mutants. X-men hold a very special place in my heart. I used to read every comic that came out and even watched the X-men cartoon in the 90's. When I first heard that the powers that be was going to make a movie about my beloved heroes, I was concerned. I didn't know how well it would translate. Could they tackle the stories that these characters have been in? I was pleasantly surprised with the first two X-men movies. They were great. I really liked the actors they chose, for the most part, some better than others. At first, I didn't like that they had characters like Iceman as a teenager, after all, he was one of the first students. But, I understand why they did it. Most folks don't know the background of the X-men, much less every detail from their more than 50+ years. That's not a bad thing. The third film, for me, felt rushed. They picked crappy mutants to serve on the Brotherhood of Mutants. Most were unknown. Again, I understand why, but they could have introduced some cool mutants, just the same. I thought the Juggernaut's costume was pathetic. I cringed the entire time he was on screen. The prosthetic muscle suit was horrible. The helmet... don't get me started. Kitty Pride's line sums up what we were all thinking. When First Class came out I was skeptical. I knew that following in Sir Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen's, footsteps would be a tall order. James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender, in my opinion, did a good job handling the characters. The story wasn't a great story, but was better than the third film. The character's were a little flat. I did like Jennifer Lawrence, as Mistique much more than Rebecca Romijn. Over all, it wasn't a horrible movie, much better than X3. Going into DOFP, I was concerned. This story line and Dark Phoenix Saga are my two favs. They had already screwed up the DPS, so I was really concerned with this one. They finally got it right! This movie is incredible. The best X-men movie, heck, the best comic to movie ever. From the opening scene to the last, I wore a stupid grin. I had goose pimples. It was amazing. It was funny, had great action, was a bit sad in spots. The actors really brought their A game to this one. The writers seemed to not only know the story, but also put a lot of love in the writing. It was well acted, written, and directed. The cinematography was beautiful. The whole movie was awesome. I can't stress this enough. It was so good in fact, that five minutes in, I had already pre ordered from Amazon. I hope they can continue this high in the next film.
