Honeywell HZ-500E Quick Fan Heater

We recently moved into a new flat and wanted to get a portable heater for one of the bedrooms where the window wouldn't close properly. Being into home decor and wanting to save as much space as possible, we did some research in finding the right heater and chose this product. We couldn't be more pleased with our purchase! It's a very good looking product - sleek, compact, and frankly expensive/high-quality looking. And more importantly, it works really well. We now leave the bedroom door open and the connecting hallway heats up nicely as well so the radiators there could be turned down. While it isn't completely silent (in fact we had initially wanted to avoid fan heater for precisely this reason), we have no problem going to sleep with it on (auto temp control - very easy to operate). We recommend it highly.

I have only had this for approximately 24 hours but have used it overnight, couldn't sleep, in a 32 cubic meter room with a large window and two doors, one that, for various reasons, always open goes to the kitchen which has a slightly open window for ventilation. This was bought to replace a cheap and quite noisy one that had just died.At the 1000W setting, i.e. the quiet one, while it isn't silent, the type of noise it makes is not at all obtrusive and quickly fades into the background and forgotten. When listening to quiet passage on a video, I didn't need to adjust the volume at all from its normal position when at the 1000W setting. At the 1200W and 2000W setting it is obviously more noticeable, but, as the nature of the noise doesn't change, again it is not obtrusive. However, on the same quiet video passage I did need to tweak the volume level up an extra notch for each extra heat setting for the very quietest section of the that passage. But again, apart from that slight increase in the required volume, the noise soon fades into the background. Its noise, or rather lack of, is a revelation compared to the one it replaces.The thermostat, once you have found a setting that gives you the required temperature, has a hysteresis of ~0.6C (~1.1F). E.G. tweak it to a setting that of ~xC and it will keep the room ~x -/+0.3C. With last nights external temperature low of 6C, the 1000W setting was more than enough to keep the room at my required 22C. Under the thermostatic control, at the coldest point of the night, once the room initially got up to the required temperature, the heater was off for approximately 20% more time than it was on. With the external temperature now at ~13C it is on for about ten minutes at a time and then off for about thirty minutes at a time and still at the 1000W setting.I have two complaints, both relatively minor. First, the finishing of the edges of parts of the back of the case are not a 100%, but I am being picky because of the price. Secondly, the thermostat has no markings to use as a guide for accuracy or repeatability, only a mark at the minimum setting for the frostwatch setting and a volume control increasing in size sweep type logo for temperature. However, the sweep logo is a light grey and takes a pencil mark :)However, with those two minor provisos I have no problem at all in recommending the HZ 500E to others. For while it is not the cheapest option, both the quietness of the fan at the 1000W setting, not that the other two settings are exactly noisy, and the type of unobtrusive noise it makes at all settings, combined with the accuracy of the thermostat once the appropriate position has been found, I am more than happy with it. If it was cheaper I would have ignored my two minor quibbles and given it five stars, but considering the price, I have removed half a star for those quibbles, but, as I can't give it four and a half I have given it four stars.

This really doesn't live up to the name. Honeywell is a respected company, but this heater is cheaply made, expensive too buy. Made from badly moulded cheap plastic, I wouldn't recommend it. It could benefit from a handle on the top as well. I don't recommend it. The heat level is also poor. Often, fan heaters are used as a booster, but this is not good enough. Yes, it's quiet, and it does give a steady heat, but I've had heaters at half the price that are twice as good. I've given it a fair trial before writing this review.

I'm a bit disappointed wi this heater. It seems to come on and off when it wants regardless of the room temperature! I bought it to try to keep our bedroom at a fairly constant temperature for my baby, but I'm always up in the night turning the thermostat up and down. It is quite quiet though, so good for the bedroom.

We have a long living room and one end is always cold.This fan is wonderfulIt is very quiet but powerful.It has 3 settings for power and also can be used as a cooling fan.It is much better than any we have ever seen.Since we already have bad colds I can see it;s going to help us as we find the gas fire overpowering sometimes.If the weather gets terrible we can use both in the evening.I would recommend this highly.There is one with a timer which I think could be handy but this does not have one.Altogether in a different class from others and the service was very quick as well...most impressed.Better than we expected...better than we knew of.

It does make room warm and nice product but it is plastic and the smell of burning plastic made me uncomfortable using it. Tried it a week hoping it would be an initial issue, but it was same every time I switch it on. Not very good to use in closed room with hot air.
