Good quality stone at reasonable price point.
I've had cheaper whetstones before which were ok I guess but didn't realise till I got this king delux 1200 grit stone along with the 800 grit what these sorts of stones were capable of. I also got a 6000 grit to finish off. The 800 arrived first so started with that on a Japanese style blade with a factory bevil of 10 degrees either side for an inclusive 20 degrees. Never sharpened that low an angle before so looked around and found a set of angle guides which had a 10 in the set. Once I got used to what the angle should feel like I didn't need it any more so went free hand on the 800 stone and oh wow I thought the knife was sharp out of the factory but it put a scalpel like edge on it and then when I put it on the 1200 stone to really dial in the edge and finally polish the edge on the 6000 I didn't know a knife could get so sharp. Sure these stones take a while to get used to and can be time consuming to use properly but it's a cathartic experience and if you appreciate a sharp kitchen knife and like the idea of doing something in a traditional way it's worth looking into a set of these stones. Sure there are more expensive stones out there but at this price point they are a good option for learning on before investing in more expansive stones.

Beautiful stone
Used it today as part of the process of thinning and sharpening a vintage Sabatier cleaver. It's preformance was faultless, cut's quickly with excellent feel and feedback. I am a expert sharpener and worked professionally as a togoshi (Japanese sword polisher) so have a good selection of quality stone's. I am happy to add this to the pile, and therfore happy to highly recommend it.

Spot On, well packaged
It is indeed a Japanese King 1200 Grit Stone, but just thought I'd write a review to point out that it arrived very well packaged and no damage to box or product. Seemed worth noting considering the heft of it.

good product
Good quality stone, for sharpening kitchen knives. Grit 1200 is medium size grit which is most useful for knife sharpening. It comes with storage cardboard box. Dimensions of the stone are sufficient to sharpen even a big knife with ease.

I got this 1200 along with the King 6000 in a single order, 2 different sellers. As the photos show, I got the good stuff, the deluxe version of each. I have sharpened 3 of my own knives so far today since they arrived, and I am about to sharpen the rest. It is that good to use. Feedback is awesome, I can tell immediately when i am moving off bevel or not following the grind lines. 2-3 passes for a burr on Rockwell 55-58, and 4-5 on Rockwell 60-62. Good cutting speed for a 1200 grit stone, but I can't wait to get the 300. I really like the feel of this stone. If you have been raised on Sharp Pebble and others like it, you will realize the difference a good stone makes once you have knives worth it! My Wusthof and Calphalon german steels, my cheap $15 dollar knife (Rockwell ~55) and my Sedge gyoto (VG-10 about 61HRC) all sharpen tremendously better than on those soft stones, and remind me of the old Arkansas stones I was raised on. The response to pressure, the smooth feel, the cutting power all remind me of those good stones. not the new ones either, old ones from before 1960. Anyway, this is a good stone, and considering the money, it is a fantastic stone. My only complaint is how fast it seems to be wearing, as there is a lot of grit in my pond. There seems to be no problem as it is still flat and matches my straightedge wonderfully, even after several sharpenings. I may upgrade to a different stone someday, but if I didn't sharpen a bunch of knives and use this a lot, just sharpening 1x a week/month with a few kitchen knives?? this would last for 5-10 years, at least. The 6000 is even better, near mirror-polish on all steels. UPDATE: after using it several times, and getting more used to it, the more I like the stone, and the more I hate 1 particular thing about it. The drying time. I live in an arid part of the country, and it still takes at LEAST 3 days of sitting out on a drying rack to be safe to put away, and I will still sometimes get wrinkling on the box. Cuts good if it has a roughed up surface and something to bite on, a decent tooth edge if you sharpen no higher in grit. A fantastic base for higher grits if you choose to go higher. Lots of grit, but seemingly slow wearing or, at least, even wearing, as it is still flat on the 1 side I have used. When I replace this, it will be with a splash-n-go

Have fun!
