WINNER OF THE PARENTS’ CHOICE AWARD 2015; JUNIOR DESIGN AWARD 2014; EZRA JACK KEATS BOOK AWARD 2014; AND IRISH BOOK AWARDS WINNER 2014. The winner of the 2014 Association of Illustrators' Award for Children's Books, Shh! is the covetable new picture book from Chris Haughton, one of the most exciting new voices in children's literature. From Chris Haughton, the multi award-winning author-illustrator of A Bit Lost and Oh No, George!, comes a picture book about a beautiful bird, four friends and plans gone wrong... The friends are out for a walk. Suddenly, they spot it – a beautiful bird perched high in a tree! They simply must have it and – ssh! – they have a plan . So they tip-toe very slowly, nets poised – "Ready one ... ready two ... ready three ... GO!" But, at the turn of the page, we find a ridiculous bunch of very tangled characters and a blissfully oblivious bird, flying away. One hilarious foiled plan after another and it's clear that this goofy gang cannot catch that elusive birdie! But the littlest of this group, a quiet spectator up until now, knows that a bit of kindness can go a long way... Will his friends follow his gentle lead or will they get themselves into even more trouble? The winner of the 2014 Association of Illustrator’s Award for Children’s Books, Chris Haughton’s covetable tale is now in a gorgeous board book edition. Review: Great graphics and simple story for age - Our toddler really likes these books. I think that’s down to the graphics and the fact there are not too many words on each page. I find he’s not interested in books like the Gruffalo as they’re too wordy and he wants the page changed before the words have been spoken. The stories are simple and so easy for little ones to understand. And the size is handy for reading with one hand - if trying to manage a story and bottle Review: Beautiful book with lovely illustrations - Loved it. Beautiful illustrations.

Great book for expressive reading
The best book that I ever bought for my young granddaughter. She absolutely loves it. Everything about this book is wonderful from the gorgeous illustrations to the imaginative and expressive storyline. I loved reading it to her so much that I decided to buy more books from the author Chris Haughton for my granddaughter and grandniece.

Brilliant!
My son got this for his 1st birthday and it's been one of his favourite books ever since. It's very cleverly written with simple sentences and illustrations which are very easy to understand and fantastic for language learning. My son often grabs this book and "reads" it to himself - saying random words aloud and I know he's got it even if I'm not in the same room. I've now purchased all the books from this author and I can't wait for him to release more!

Sssh, we have a winner!
Very imaginative and clever book. When I first read this to my just turned three year old daughter I was a little taken aback by the lack of words in it. I feared she would be bored at the seeming lack of story but not at all. She loved the artistry which is so distinctive compared to a lot of books for children. Its great fun to read to her and to get her to join in. When I say "Ssshh" I put a finger to my lips and she joins in copying me as I motion in a creeping way as if we were both sneaking up on that pesky bird. She loves it and I do too.

Can't take eye off it!
My toddler LOVES this book. The simple, eye catching pictures with strong colours keep him hooked through multiple readings in any given sitting.

Cartonato, in inglese! Troppo simpatico! dai 2 anni...

Story time is the best time!
Books are the anchor of every great preschool environment. The right stories spark curiosity, build language, and inspire imaginative play. I love watching children reenact scenes from their favorite books using puppets, blocks, or dramatic play props — all of which strengthen motor planning, sequencing, and coordination. A well‑chosen book doesn’t just build literacy; it becomes the starting point for movement, art, and hands‑on learning.
