Yes it does support auto framerate switching (at least according to the spec & I've not noticed any issues to date). And I don't know about 1080i @ 25fps: it isn't mentioned in the manual or specs and I don't have a sample file to try, I'm afraid.

Q: I currently have a base 3d (first version) - can i simply switch it's (fully loaded) 4tb drive into this model? i don't want to reformat the drive...)

This Dune player will only except specific hard drives, : hard drive must be run cool and 5200 rpm get NAS Drive RED WD

I don’t know, but why would you need to do that? if you buy an internal hard drive and put that into the player itself it will run faster & better what ever you have on the drive, + I don’t know what the usb’s are (USB2 or 3 for faster speed). I had 5 - 2tb hard drives so I condensed them on to a 10tb which is in my machine, it plays movies & audio files, it’s great couldn’t live with out it.
