Buy A Secure Base 1 by Bowlby, John, Holmes, Jeremy (ISBN: 8601300257945) from desertcart's Book Store. Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders. Review: A Superb Little Book Which Explains So Much - This is a superb little book, presenting profound psychological ideas in a very accessible form. It shows how our attachment to others, of lack of it,, affects the whole of our lives; moreover it shows very clearly what are the causes of attachment and the causes of a lack of attachment, which, at an elementary level allows us to see why we are as we are, and why we had no choice in things happening the way they did. Having said that, this book also enables us to see how we can take what we have, make sense of it, and begin to change it. A powerful, well written book, much recommended to those with attachment (close relationship) issues. Review: Enlightening Read - I bought this and "The Making and Breaking of Affectional Bonds" in order to better understand attachment theory. Between the two books John Bowlby provides 15 lectures, being very informative about the history, contemporary issues at the time written, and suggestions for future development of attachment theory. Essential reading for any student interested in attachment theory.

Bowlby explained
If you want to get to know about attachment theory this is a great book. This book contains transcripts of some of Bowlby's lectures and is written in his wonderfully old fashioned descriptive style, a great read.

An excellent book on attachment- what is it and how does it go wrong?
A really good summing up and run through of the development of theory around attachment. If you are planning to work with harmed kids or adopt/ foster, I'd most certainly read this first. Makes great sense unlike some famous psychoanalysts I could mention.

Printed by Amazon Fulfillment in Poland.

Very well written and informative. 4 stars instead of 5 purely because it was written some 30 years' ago, and the understanding of the links between trauma and mental illness has moved on a lot since then.
